You read that title correctly, women are having abortions to save the planet. I couldn't make this up in my wildest imagination. Women are not just having abortions, but having themselves sterilized permanently. I think these women are CRAZY. What kind of world would this be without HUMANS??? Didn't God make the world FOR his ultimate creation -- mankind? I doubt these women (and men) even have any faith in something higher than themselves.
Had Toni Vernelli gone ahead with her pregnancy ten years ago, she would know at first hand what it is like to cradle her own baby, to have a pair of innocent eyes gazing up at her with unconditional love, to feel a little hand slipping into hers - and a voice calling her Mummy. But the very thought makes her shudder with horror.
Because when Toni terminated her pregnancy, she did so in the firm belief she was helping to save the planet.
Desperate measures: Toni Vernelli was steralised at age 27 to reduce her carbon footprintIncredibly, so determined was she that the terrible "mistake" of pregnancy should never happen again, that she begged the doctor who performed the abortion to sterilise her at the same time.
He refused, but Toni - who works for an environmental charity - "relentlessly hunted down a doctor who would perform the irreversible surgery.
Finally, eight years ago, Toni got her way.
At the age of 27 this young woman at the height of her reproductive years was sterilised to "protect the planet".
Incredibly, instead of mourning the loss of a family that never was, her boyfriend (now husband) presented her with a congratulations card.
While some might think it strange to celebrate the reversal of nature and denial of motherhood, Toni relishes her decision with an almost religious zeal.
"Having children is selfish. It's all about maintaining your genetic line at the expense of the planet," says Toni, 35.
"Every person who is born uses more food, more water, more land, more fossil fuels, more trees and produces more rubbish, more pollution, more greenhouse gases, and adds to the problem of over-population." (continue reading at The Daily Mail)
This makes me shudder in horror, not the fact that the earth may be warming a degree or two in the next hundred or thousand years.

According to polls, the public believes global warming is a hoax.

Thank you, Debbie.
I don't expect my opinions to be popular when the majority of people take an emotional and/or religious rather than a logical view.
I do expect responses to be reasoned and about the expressed opinion rather than personal vilification. Calling me names doesn't prove anything and contributes nothing.
I understand people get upset when I take potshots at their sacred cows. That's when it's time to ask oneself "why am I upset?" If you disagree, state your case.
Fact is, when someone says something that upsets us, it's often because there's at least some truth in it that we prefer not to see. I'm not out to anger people. I am trying to crack open some hard shells.

Thanks for the comments everybody, but please ... stop with the personal attacks. I don't want to ban anyone from posting comments.

David, personal attacks aren't even a poor excuse for an argument. They're no argument at all. This isn't about me or my education. Attacking me puts you in the same position as the last person. Personal attacks are the last resort of the fool.
If you don't have an intelligent and well-reasoned response, why choose to make a fool of yourself?
Your claim of a college degree of some sort indicates that you consider yourself to be at least moderately educated but your response pretty much belies that. Try again, calmly this time.

You call those who disagree with you uneducated. I have a university degree in California. Which college did you attend? Warner Bros Looneyversity? Your philosophy is straight out of a demented cartoon.

Rastaman, do God and the world a favor. Stick a .44 in your right ear and pull the trigger. Six times just to be thorough.

"Rastaman, you need to stop smoking the ganja"
Dwana or whatever your name is, there's always someone accusing me of using drugs as an argument when they have nothing better to say, and today it's you. Uneducated people like you who have nothing to say always resort to name-calling to sound superior, and they always end up looking foolish.
"Crazy, druggie, ecofreak..." A tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
Of course God is Universal love. Don't you read your Bible? It says so. Read it sometime and if you can't grasp the big words, buy a Funk and Wagnalls. Everyone who has ever claimed to have a religious experience has told us that God is universal love.
I freely admit I also resort to name-calling sometimes, but only if it doesn't interfere with the gist of my argument. You self-righteous, uneducated person of low intelligence. I checked out your blog. You would do well to stop throwing stones.

Sorry but... Adam and Eve are a fairy tale, and AGAIN, God never spoke to anybody. Those stories were originally childs fables told to children as moral lessons. Over time they were written down and called the Word Of God.
No. Not. Eve was made from one of Adams ribs. The whale swallowed Jonah. Lots wife was turned into a pillar of salt. Etcetera. Childs fables. Moral: Girls must learn to be subservient. Don't be disobedient.
Let's get real here. God is neither male nor female. God is spirit, or essence or whatever. You can experience the presence of God, but not by believing in some bearded archetype. I won't rant off here about how this is done or what God is, but I do know what God is not.
We take life without a second thought, without considering any of the lives we take to be even slightly precious, and then call ourselves righteous Christians over some woman getting an abortion. Those of us who do this haven't even a beginning concept of what Christianity means.
Abortions are a favor to the Earth. The less of us that are born as time goes by, the better. My ideal would be to see Earths population shrink to about 500 million from the current SIX POINT SIX BILLION PEOPLE.
Humans aren't a precious commodity. The plain truth is that we're a scourge.

Rastaman, I'm going to be a lot less charitable to you than Debbie. You're crazy! God is Universal Love? All life is equal to God? How do you know that if, as you say, no person and no book speaks for God? I think you're the one putting words in God's mouth to justify your opinion.
And your warped notion that the planet would be paradise without humans is well...warped. You must think that Bambi and The Lion King were documentaries. They weren't. The forest and jungle creatures don't all live happily together under their deer or feline kings.
In real life animals kill each other, eat each other, fight each other for territory, food, water, and even sex. When a male lion takes over a pride of females he invariably kills any cubs sired by the previous alpha male. And the mothers do little or nothing to stop him. Hardly sounds like paradise, Rastaman.
Rastaman, you need to stop smoking the ganja and get back in touch with reality. As I said in my first comment on this post, the jihadis don't care about the planet; they care about conquering the infidel for Allah. And they're using the cradle as well as the sword to achieve that goal. Not having babies won't save us from jihad. In fact, it may well hasten it's onslaught, which will be bad news for the planet as well as us. Then what are you vastly outnumbered ecofreaks gonna do?
Posted by: Dwana | November 26, 2007 at 12:26 AM
Rastaman: I understand what you are saying. God knows and loves all his creation - true. But no way can He be in favor of killing unborn babies.
God told Adam and Eve ALL THINGS in the garden were for them. We are also told that God gave Man dominion over all the earth. Yes we are to be good stewards of what God has given us. But certainly we are not to put nature over human life.

I do not believe this Debbie...Good God...........

Rather than having abortions or operations, Why not just keep those damned legs together in the first place?
Bet you will never hear a liberal say that abstinence reduces your carbon footprint.

No. God did not make Earth for humans. That's a bunch of gas made up by humans to justify their behavior.
According to the Bible, for those of the Christian persuasion, God is Universal Love. That's love of all life, not just human life. Other religions see God in the same light. Hindus, for example, see all living things as being equal under God.
I am always amazed at the way people claim to speak for God, as if God were too stupid to do so. Not one human on Earth speaks for God. Neither does any book, the Bible included. No one has ever heard God speak in spite of all the TV preachers claiming otherwise.
God takes no favorites and this includes ducks, houseflies and snails. Under God all life is equally loved.
Without humans this would be a wonderful world. No pollution, no wars, no terrorists, no disappearing rain forests or dying coral reefs or endangered species. No atomic bombs. Ever look at it that way?
Human life is vastly overrated by humans.
The women who are choosing to not add to the massive overpopulation that the Earth is already dying from are heroines. Going against such a basic instinct such as procreation takes sincere commitment to an ideal. Any healthy female human can mindlessly have children without any thought for the future. So can any cow.
There's always more than one side to any story and disagreement does not signify error.

I can't believe this!!!! Did anyone tell this woman that radical Muslims don't care a rat's ass about her reproductive rights or the planet? What is she going to do when she wakes up one day and discovers THEY are in control because they made sure there was enough of their "genetic line" around to take over?
