Let's review today's political situation. Huckabee said, "I've corresponded with John Bolton, who's agreed to work with us on developing foreign policy.” But that was a big, fat lie. Bolton said, "I’d be happy to speak with Huckabee, but I haven’t spoken with him yet.” Oops.
Huckabee's mouth will be his ruination. He made fun of Vice President Cheney's hunting accident, then almost shot some reporters. Oops.
Huckabee expressed “our sincere concern and apologies for what has happened in Pakistan.” Oops. Why would the U.S. need to apologize for Bhutto's assassination? And why didn't Huckabee know that martial law had already been suspended. Oops.
He needs a map to find those "eastern Pakistan borders near Afghanistan." Iran likes Huckabee's foreign policy. Doesn't that make you want to vote for him?
Daniel Pipes thinks Huckabee's foreign policy ridicule is much deserved:
But true connoisseurs of the Republican candidate for president are still wrapping their arms around this foreign policy insight delivered in a September interview:
"If there is going to be a Palestinian state, it needs to be on land that doesn't threaten the existence or security of Israel. There is a lot of available real estate around the world that would not be a direct threat to Israel's security."James D. Besser, who conducted this interview, added that "Huckabee declined to offer suggestions about where that [real estate] might be." Uganda or Birobidjan, perhaps? (December 24, 2007)
Huckabee also said, "that we have more Pakistani illegals coming across our border than all other nationalities except those immediately south of the border.” Lie. Oops.
Official government estimates say there are probably more undocumented Indians, Filipinos, Koreans, Chinese and Vietnamese here than Pakistanis, though Huckabee claimed Pakistan was sending an ever-larger share of illegal traffic. (more)
Huckabee uses Romney's religion against him, then suddenly praises Romney's religion, faults his economics. Well, which is it? Seems the blush is off the rose where Huckabee is concerned. Good. Here's Frank Gaffney and Hugh Hewitt on Huckabee:
Ron Paul? Well, the liberals like him. There are also claims like this:
... here is an often-repeated claim:
Ron Paul has more campaign donations from Active Duty Military and Veterans than any other candidate.Has anyone ever verified this claim? Or, is it like the Hillary Clinton claim of “35 years of experience” that is repeated so often that no one bothers to challenge it anymore, especially since any documentation that might support her claim is safely locked away.
Obama shot himself in the foot when he said that Hillary Clinton bore some responsibility for Benazir Bhutto's demise. Did Biden, Dodd, and Edwards kill Bhutto too?
Is "Hillary Is 'Jimmy Carter on Steroids:'"
When Jimmy Carter pulled the Persian rug out from under the Shah, we wound up with the Ayatollah Khomenei and a line of spiritual/political descendants culminating in Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Terence Jeffrey has now pointed out that by her highly-critical statements undermining Pervez Musharraf, Hillary Clinton could be precipitating an even worse disaster in Pakistan. The editor-in-chief of CNS News.com, NB's sister organization, has thus described Clinton as "Jimmy Carter on steroids."
Some Iowans are upset that Clinton won't be taking any questions from voters next week. Oops.
Bloggers have helped Fred Thompson's campaign raise almost $254,000 which is more than enough to keep Fred on the air through the Caucuses. But don't stop giving now. Maybe Fred has some baggage, but not nearly as much as the other candidates and what you see, is what you get with Fred. Warts and all. Donate here.
McCain calls Romney a phony. Hot Air reminds us that "McCain isn’t exactly the most loyal Republican in the bunch." Yet some people think he's the only choice for Republicans.
FROM TIME TO THE NEW YORK TIMES? The HuffPo is reporting that Bill Kristol will become an NYT columnist in 2008. So far, HuffPo commentors seem less than pleased.
Kender has written An Open Letter To Iowa from the State of California in support of Fred Thompson. I hope they all read it.

Just for the fun of it, go see what the candidates looked like way back then. Photos, pretty funny.
I almost forgot Bill Richardson:
A leader has died, but democracy must live. The United States government cannot stand by and allow Pakistan's return to democracy to be derailed or delayed by violence. We must use our diplomatic leverage and force the enemies of democracy to yield: President Bush should press Musharraf to step aside, and a broad-based coalition government, consisting of all the democratic parties, should be formed immediately. [Formed how, exactly? Which angels in the forms of kings will fly down from the sky and put together this coalition of wise men?] Until this happens, we should suspend military aid to the Pakistani government. [Such a boycott of Pakistan will surely cripple the Islamist movement there!] Free and fair elections must also be held as soon as possible. [Put into place by...?]

So Hillary's not for Musharraf or any ongoing aid, does she offer an alternative? Because there ain't many to pick from...
Great summary Debbie...

Debbie, that's a great roundup. I love that quote, "Hillary Clinton is Jimmy Carter on steroids"....eeeewwww naaaasty... but very fitting. Some of that stuff about Huckabee is a shock. Let's hope Fred stays the course because at the rate we're going there's really not much else.

"Ron Paul? Well, the liberals like him."
While you are calling out the politicos for false or misleading 'quotes', let's take a look at this one, shall we? *Some* (that is, a tiny minority) Liberals resonate with Paul solely over his stance on the unnecessary war we started in Iraq. These are what would appear to be single-issue voters. No True Liberal is going to like his position on personal responsibility and less government in our daily lives.
Pot, kettle...

This was an excellent, yet disheartening commentary. Our candidates have to refrain from dirty tactics if we are to be united enough to beat the Liberals in this next election. Like this war has proven, fragmentary support for the good guys has made things difficult to say the least.

What a superb roundup, Deb. It's almost like the game, Mad-Libs we played when growing up, where you leave out a word in a sentence and fill in with one of your own. Come to think of it, Mad is a perfect descriptor for what the Libs are doing now as adults.
