Oprah was in fine form giving her 'prepared' speech in support of Barack Obama. She covered all the major Obama talking points nicely. I don't think her audience expected a stump speech, but rather a nice 'I'm supporting Obama' talk. They seemed to be very pleased. Looking at the faces in the audience as the camera scanned the crowd, I noticed how few Black people were there. Maybe they were in a different section and the camera didn't get to them??? Or, as hubby said, maybe most of Obama's followers are all 'guilty white liberals.'
Interesting, "by the Obama campaign's count, about 18,500 people showed up to hear Oprah", and THEY GOT CONTACT INFORMATION ON EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE PEOPLE. I assume they will do the same at upcoming Oprah-Obama events.
His campaign collected the names and contact information of everyone here, and will surely do the same when the roadshow moves to Cedar Rapids tonight, and then Columbia, S.C. and Manchester, N.H. tomorrow. With the Iowa caucuses just weeks away, it's organization, not spectacle, that matters. (Boston.com)
Post-speech commentary is gradually filtering in. Here's a quick sample:
From Right Wing Sparkle (who I just love to read):
I wish Obama saw the real threat of terrorism. I wish he could see the good we have done in the Middle East. I wish he could understand the burden of being overtaxed. I wish he could care for the most vulnerable of our society, the unborn. I wish he could see the disaster universal healthcare would be.I wish he was Republican.
No, Oprah, Obama is not the one to be President, but he may be the one to stop the Clintons.
And that may be the higher purpose he was born for.
From KnoxViews:
What she has sold very effectively is herself: the Oprah you can trust; the Oprah who cares; the Oprah that knows how to get things done.Reduced to its smallest common denominator the one quality most Americans are seeking in this election is someone they can TRUST.
I predict the Oprah factor will be very important in this election.
From The Caucus:
She said she has not written a check to Mr. Obama’s campaign.“Well the truth of the matter is, whether I contribute or not contribute, you are limited to how much you contribute, so my money isn’t going to make any difference to him,” Ms. Winfrey said. “I think that my value to him, my support of him, is probably worth more than any check.” (The Caucus)
No kidding!

Little things mean a lot, as the song goes.
Obama and Oprah have a big black following, yet the people there were mostly white? Think on it. What if nearly all the people there had been black? Would that look like Obama is supported by white people to the TV audience, to us voters?
How would all the white voters of Amsrica react if most of his supporters there were black? Race matters to both races.
They don't sell tickets at the dooor for those events, the people are SCREENED before they're INVITED, and they're all registered Democrat voters to keep out the hecklers. A committee went over the lists and separated people by address, inviting those from predominantly white areas. That's how it's orchestrated.

Winfrey's foray into the campaign will get Obama more promotion and a chance to convert her legions of supporters to vote form Obama.
However, voters, (even Democrat ones) will not see him as being ready to assume the role of commander in chief by January 2009….
