I knew it, but now there is proof -- Republicans are more mentally stable than others (others means Independents and Democrats). (Gallup Poll, hat tip Steve of Internet Radio Network. Check it out, good stuff.)
PRINCETON, NJ -- Republicans are significantly more likely than Democrats or independents to rate their mental health as excellent, according to data from the last four November Gallup Health and Healthcare polls. Fifty-eight percent of Republicans report having excellent mental health, compared to 43% of independents and 38% of Democrats. This relationship between party identification and reports of excellent mental health persists even within categories of income, age, gender, church attendance, and education.
The basic data -- based on an aggregated sample of more than 4,000 interviews conducted since 2004 -- are straightforward.
The differences are quite significant, as can be seen. While Democrats are slightly less likely to report excellent mental health than are independents, the big distinctions in these data are the differences between Republicans and everyone else.
One could be quick to assume that these differences are based on the underlying demographic and socioeconomic patterns related to party identification in America today. A recent Gallup report (see "Strong Relationship Between Income and Mental Health" in Related Items) reviewed these mental health data more generally, and found that men, those with higher incomes, those with higher education levels, and whites are more likely than others to report excellent mental health. Some of these patterns describe characteristics of Republicans, of course.
But an analysis of the relationship between party identification and self-reported excellent mental health within various categories of age, gender, church attendance, income, education, and other variables shows that the basic pattern persists regardless of these characteristics. In other words, party identification appears to have an independent effect on mental health even when each of these is controlled for.
Pretty interesting.

Unfortunately, self-evaluation is not an accurate way to determine someone's actual mental stability. There have also been studies that show that the less intelligent people are, the higher their rate their own intelligence.

You radical, you, Rasta! I've always believed that those who deny their insanity are the truely insane. Ask anyone who knows me and you'll find that I adamantly admit to a few loose screws.

Every true nut case I've ever had the misfortune of meeting in my life, and there's been plenty as I've lived a long life, have always without exception considered themselves to be perfectly sane.
Those who think their mental health needs improvement are simply being honest, as most of us aren't really screwed on all that tight anyway. The honest ones are doing things to improve their balance while the dishonest ones are running our country.
I take exception to politicized posts like these because all they do is create more dissension and disparity among us, which is why I'm always the Devils Advocate in my comments. Without the Liberals and the Left to provide some balance, the Right, particularly the Religious Right, would have done far more damage than they have.
The Liberal Left does damage that the Right often counters. That's what America is about. It's not about constantly attacking each other. Jesus Christ, you people, we are not our enemy, or at least we're not supposed to be. Look at the ugly mess in our Congress because of these attitudes.
How sane is it for men to think they have a God-given right to legislate womens vaginas? How sane are the women who buy into this? And the stem cell research ban. That's just NUTS. Those aren't fetuses, they're cell clumps of about 12 cells, smaller than a tenth of a tiny fingernail clipping that were doomed to disposal by fertility clinics as unwanted. They could have been saving lives, real, actual, grown up, developed human lives, but, NOOO, it's IMMORAL. Sorry. That's not only nuts, it's plain stupid and it comes from all those Republicans who think they're so sane, in their arrogance.
That poll only proves that as Junior Psychologists, we suck at it.
Anyone got the guts to comment on this? I noticed everyone somehow overlooked my last comment. Why? Did it hit you between the eyes?

I can understand this. If I had to defend the looney, moonbat positions held by Democrats, I'd probably be nuts too.
It's much easier to be founded on common sense and self reliance.

A cure for liberalism? Wow, we could make millions on that scientific breakthrough.

That is interesting, Debbie! Especially since I'm on the edge all the time, no joking!
In any case, TNR's repudiated its libelous Scott Beauchamp stories. I've got a post up on it:

Keep it up over here!

At last! Proof that Republicans are bigger liars, more self-deceiving, and certainly more arrogant. Not that we needed it considering all the corrupt Republicans from Georgie and Dickie right on down, including, of course, all the Republican faggots and child molesters. Yessir, what a Grand Old Party!
Polls like this are dangerous because thay could just as easily be a measure of peoples level of self honesty as opposed to a measure of their dishonesty. How do we know that the political party we choose is a measure of either one, let alone a measure of our sanity?
Personally, I saw George Bush as the total a**hole he is when the debates first began with Al Gore, and I figured then that people would be insane to vote for him. I was right.
Never jump to conclusions about a poll. It may not mean what you think it does.

The 'cure' for liberalism is rather simple: TRUTH, ETHICS, HONESTY, REALISM.
When a liberal applies those four things to their life, it changes for the better, and they shed their 'liberal' blinders.
And those are four things you'll never see Bill Clinton embrace. Or Hillary. Or Moron.org, ACORN, et al.

Seriously? That's pretty good ammunition for our side. It's interesting that they admit it. I wonder if psychologists can know up with a cure for liberalism.
