According to many Liberals and even some on the Right, America is broken. I beg to differ. America is NOT broken. These people need to be very careful of self-fulfilling prophesies though. Tell someone long enough that they are useless, they then can do nothing right, that they can achieve nothing ... and eventually they begin to believe it. That's what could happen here in the US and around the world. Say a thing enough times and people begin to think it's a fact. People begin to act defeated and broken. They quit trying to improve, they look for someone who can make them feel better about themselves.
... symptomatic of a twisted modern culture, based on the perverted premised of "political correctness." Both portend more harm to be visited on innocent Americans. And, instead of real solutions, both will virtually ensure the hasty implementation of "fixes" that invariably offers
more of the liberal disease to cure its symptoms. [snip]It is no coincidence that the same social and political forces that have rendered adults too impotent to deal effectively with the occasional youthful dreg turned murderer, are hard at work dismantling the nation's ability to forcefully confront the militant Islamists. Just as we have become too "evolved" as a society to spank the disobedient child, and to our surprise have seen children devolve as a result, so is our government deliberately becoming criminally inept in its efforts to deal decisively with enemy combatants.
In the FISA debate, Democrats subordinated the safety of the nation to their own aggrandizement and that of their co-conspirators, the trial lawyers. Likewise, campus shootings are politically exploited as proof of the need to confiscate guns. In both cases, the plight of Americans has taken a back seat to the momentary opportunity for liberals to create political hay from tragedy. Enter Barack Obama: "from a Jan. 7 speech at Dartmouth College just before the New Hampshire Primary in which he told students, "… a light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an epiphany, and you will suddenly realize that you must go to the polls and vote" for Obama. (WND)
A website is devoted to Messiah Obama: "Is Barack Obama the Messiah?" Passionate souls wait in line for hours for just a glimpse of Obama. Slate hosts the daily Obama Messiah Watch. Deepak Chopra:
If Barack Obama makes it all the way to the White House, it will represent a quantum leap in American consciousness and a promise to restore America's position in the world.
Obama is a political candidate who presents himself as the messiah divinely sent to rescue the 'broken' Americans, yet he and his wife have so little pride in the United States they refuse to wear a Old Glory on their lapels, they refuse to raise their hand to their heart pledging the flag or during the national anthem. Conservative consultants say that combined, the cases could be an issue for Obama in the general election if he wins the nomination, especially as he runs against Vietnam war hero Sen. John McCain.
Could be? No, SHOULD be. The MSM should point out that Obama lied about the platoon that didn't have enough weapons or ammunition and had to take those from the Taliban. Lies all lies.
And what about Obama's TERRORIST TIES with the radical group, Weather Underground, via NewsBusters:
... you can thank the media. rist-friends/">(Video Here.) Just how radically left this man is can be seen in what company he keeps. In 1995, State Senator Alice Palmer introduced her chosen successor, Barack Obama, to a few of the district’s influential liberals at the home of two well known figures on the local left: William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn.…“I can remember being one of a small group of people who came to Bill Ayers’ house to learn that Alice Palmer was stepping down from the senate and running for Congress,” said Dr. Quentin Young, a prominent Chicago physician and advocate for single-payer health care, of the informal gathering at the home of Ayers and his wife, Dohrn. “[Palmer] identified [Obama] as her successor.”
Obama and Palmer “were both there,” he said.
Obama’s connections to Ayers and Dorhn have been noted in some fleeting news coverage in the past. But the visit by Obama to their home — part of a campaign courtship — reflects more extensive interaction than has been previously reported.
Then we have Hillary Clinton who whines, moans, cries, looks for sympathy for all she has endured living in America, while she has banks full of money and pays her worker bees enormous salaries given by hard-working average American Joes and Janes.
Ms. Hillary's stump speech includes a paean to those working the day shift, the night shift, and the late shift. She is running an ad in Ohio called "Night shift." She has not yet spoken up for the shifty and the shiftless, but she has chalked up many of them as campaign contributors. (PowerLine)
Of course that leaves John McCain who is a disappointment to both Liberals and Conservatives.
No, America is NOT broken, but we should never let our guard down and we should be very careful of the leaders we elect who could drag our beloved country down in one term as President.

Really good reading here, Debbie. Well done. I am so sick of hearing about how terrible every aspect of our lives are from the Democrat candidates. They can only win on the negative, not positives. It's failed policy this and failed policy that. Blech.

America isn't broken; granted, it is in the eyes of progressives who have not hated America, but just hate an America they haven't controlled and molded into their impossibly polyannic utopian fantasies.
What America seems to lack is courageous, statesperson-like leadership, and a media that has largely forgotten they are purveyors of news, not social engineers.
Neither Obama nor Hildebeest offer a hopeful future to the nation; only to the apologists and defeatists who wish to grovel to Mecca.

No, Debbie, America is not broken but we shouldn't be so arrogant as to think she can't break. Mighty Rome crumbled from within, making herself vulnerable to barbarian conquest. The same thing can happen and, I feel, is happening to a limited extent in America. We, the people, cannot look to "leaders" to reverse this trend. Saving America is OUR job and we should throw our supposed representatives to the dogs if that's what it'll take to preserve the nation.

Great post! America isn't broken but we are facing a leadership crisis. No one in the presidential race is emphasizing the greatness of America or the ability of Americans to solve their own problems without the help of the government. Obama makes a good speech but has no substance outside of how he will raise taxes, give away taxpayer money and demolish the military. Hillary is so power obsessed that she is even promising to give people thousands of dollars just for having a baby.
That leaves McCain. McCain tried his best to shove his amnesty program down Americans' throats and blamed talk radio for his failure while cussing out opponents. He is having trouble reaching his own party's base.
America does best when the people are free of government interference and nannyism. I really would like to see some leadership in this country embrace that idea.

MAY GOD HEAR YOU, that's what I say. America NEVER will broke, because the majority of the people is unbrokable.

And BTW, at one point in my life I was a member of SDS, I went "undercover" to meetings of the Young Republicans Club, I demonstrated and protested against the Vietnam War, I was involved in the March on Washington, I campaigned for Allard Lowenstein and Bobby Kennedy, I hated Dick Nixon, I voted for WJC both times, Al Gore, and then, GWB. Guess what? None of my past matters. Only my present and my future.
As Sean Hannity might say, "I'm a great American."

Did Obama meet with Palmer? Probably. Does that make him a sympathizer with the Weathermen (or the Weather Underground)? PLEASE! I can see I'm going to have a "enjoyable" time reading about how one candidate or the other will sell the country down the river. The fact that I've been (HUSH!) a McCain supporter from the outset...and that I'm glad that people like Romney, Thompson, Giuliani and soon, Huckabee, will not represent the Republican Party...is likely only to raise hackles and scorn. I wouldn't vote for Obama (or Clinton) anyway. But this, the "horror of horrors!" that State Senator Alice Palmer introduced Obama as her successor in 1995. What does it really mean?
Did John McCain cheat on his wife? No, I don't think so. Did John McCain appropriately or inappropriately influence on behalf of the woman's client? I don't know. I do know (or at least believe) that McCain is an honorable man.
Do I think that Obama is honorable. Yes, I do. Will he sell out the country to the Muslims or the Africans? PLEASE!
The levels of innuendo will rise higher than a tall building between now and November. If "we the people" want better government, than in my opinion, we have to be better ourselves.
