McCain, the straw that broke the Conservatives back
It's not just John McCain and his long-time Liberal ways that have true Conservatives upset -- it's that McCain is the LAST STRAW and we are not going to take it any more. We are fed up with traitors within the Republican party who claim to be Conservatives, yet their actions over the past 8 years, or more, prove the opposite to be true.
We are finally standing up and refusing to calm now and just get along. We will start from the bottom up, vote for true Conservatives in all aspects of political office. We will not 'settle' any more. Conservatism is not dead. Conservatism is tried and true beliefs fully grounded and believed in by numerous Americans who have been neglected lately. If you are not truly Conservative, you will not get our vote.
It was a tale of two speeches at CPAC yesterday -- Romney set a tone for what conservatism is all about, McCain focused on a set of statements emphasizing that Hillary or Obama would be worse than voting Republican. (GOP-USA)
From David Limbaugh:
What mortal sins have conservative McCain critics committed? Oh, they've stuck to their conservative principles, fighting for the values they believe in and refusing, prematurely, to surrender. What good would they be if they so readily threw in the towel of defeat?
That's right. We have allowed the MSM, Democrats and Liberals to choose our candidate. And yet, so called Conservative Republicans like John Cornyn (R-TX) and George Allen, former Governor of Virginia, U.S. Senator, and U.S. Representative, continue to support McCain.
The Club For Growth's Pat Toomey, in the Wall Street Journal, has suggestions for McCain's VP running mate. You can go there and read the backgrounds on each, but here they are: - South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford; - South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint; - Indiana Rep. Mike Pence; - Former Texas Sen. Phil Gramm; - Forbes Inc. CEO Steve Forbes. I notice that Huckabee is not in the group. I don't think it really matters who the VP candidates is, even if it were Romney. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. McCain is what he is.
Also from the Club for Growth:
House Votes on Earmark MoratoriumHouse Republicans forced a vote to consider an immediate earmark moratorium today. The final tally was 204-196. A "yes" vote was a vote to not consider the moratorium. All "yes" votes were Democrats. Voting "no" were 189 Republicans and 7 Democrats. Those 7 Dems were:
Donnelley (IN-02)
Mahoney (FL-16)
Hill (IN-09)
Ellsworth (IN-08)
Lampson (TX-22)
Boyda (KS-02)
Barrow (GA-12)

Hi Deb. I've decided, not for any altruist reason except I want what is best for our troops, that come November I will vote for the repukian. There is also the topic of judges. While I am afraid of the judges mccain will nominate, they might be better than the aclu. I'm so depressed...

Denny: It looks like you have put a lot of thought into this. Choosing Romney would be a good choice for McCain, but I'm not sure he will do this. McCain would have to suck up his negative feelings toward Romney first. We will have to wait and see.
There are so many good possibilities for a Conservative VP, I don't think McCain should let his feelings influence his choice.

Debbie, I think that the true conservative you are talking about is Governor Mitt Romney.
Here is the growing list of reasons why Governor Romney would be the perfect V.P. choice for McCain - and everyone else.
1)There is widespread agreement that if John McCain loses this year, Gov. Romney will run in 2012. If Gov. Romney were on the ticket as V.P. next in line for the GOP nod in 2016, Mr. McCain would not have to worry about whether Mr. Romney would work as hard as possible for a McCain/Romney win this year.
2)Governor Romney is very intelligent, and I think would be very comfortable dealing with foreign dignitaries.
3)Governor Romney is very rich and has a well-oiled fund-raising circuit that would be very beneficial to Mr. McCain.
4)Governor Romney would bring expertise to economic matters that Mr. McCain seems to be lacking.
5)Governor Romney would bring executive experience as a Governor to the ticket.
6)Governor Romney would bring almost all of his supporters to help with a McCain/Romney ticket, thereby assuring that his supporters aren’t trying to bring him attention to a potential 2012 run, nipping such conversation quickly, before it takes root and is hard to break apart.
7)Governor Romney appeals to social, economic and defense conservatives, bringing the whole Party and most of the Conservative Movement - including talk radio - on board with the ticket.
8)Romney supporters are very enthusiastic and dedicated. You cannot buy this kind of endearment, but McCain would be able to pick up his supporters, and their already-in-place organizational and other skills they would have to offer to the ticket.
9)Romney would help John McCain in purple states such as Michigan, Nevada and Minnesota, and could even put Massachusetts in place in November.
10)Governor Romney brings all the necessary ingredients to John McCain’s campaign that he so desperately needs to succeed against Hillary - and especially - an Obama Democratic opponent.
11) You cannot buy loyalty like Governor Romney has with his supporters. You have to EARN it. By giving Romney the nod for the V.P. slot, McCain would be showing the Conservative Movement in America that he will not abandon them in the future. If he does this, he will almost be unstoppable in the fall against the Democrats.
12)Governor Romney is now widely seen as heir next in line to be the GOP nominee if McCain were to be defeated, or if McCain served two terms, then 2116, if Romney stays in the game that long. The move to make Romney V.P. would silence many evangelical and social conservatives who now would support Gov. Romney, including Dr. Dobson and others. This would shore up support among Mr. Huckabee’s supporters to Mr. McCain, endearing McCain as the one who actually DID bring the Party and Conservative Movement together to defeat the Democrats and take BACK both Houses of Congress!
13)Gov. Romney was the clear “change” candidate - and ran on that theme. The move to make Romney V.P. would be a tough ticket against a Hillary/Obama ticket. Change wins almost every time. We would now be able to bring that on-the-ground message IMMEDIATELY!
14)As the man who actually did something about - and has earned him wide recognition of - healthcare reform, he is the ideal man to blunt the Democrat’s BillaryCare proposals. This item would essentially be OURS as Republicans, which would deflate much criticism against the Republicans for not adequately addressing this critical issue thus far!
15)By picking Romney, we come out a totally unified Republican Party AND Conservative Movement - ready to fight against the Democrats NOW!
16)McCain IS the President-elect. He WILL be the Commander in Chief. McCain WILL be the boss - apple sauce -non debatable. McCain will get his way on very many things. But, Mr. Romney can still use cabinet meetings and gestures to try to persuade Mr. McCain to go all the way toward Ronald Reagan’s principled road of social, economic and military-might conservatism. Mr. McCain will ALWAYS win. But, Romney will be RIGHT there to balance McCain as needed.
17)Romney would be good for McCain, since Romney is NOT a “yes” man. Romney is a principled, determined conservative who is GRACIOUS -yet stern when applicable - who can turn the other cheek when needed, after his opinions are known and rejected. He PROVED that by bowing out graciously and promising to work hard for Mr. McCain as the GOP nominee-to-be. Mr. McCain does NOT need a “yes” man, but rather someone who can keep his temper and political wavering’s from right issues in check.
17)An informal straw vote anong those present to see who they might prefer for President after the CPAC convention showed Romney winning it with 34%, followed by John McCain at 33 %, and Huckabee way down at only 14 percent. This vote proves that adding Gov. Romney to the ticket would quell the right and make sure they aren’t complacent on election day.
18)If McCain does not pick a well-known conservative for V.P., it may take MONTHS for the Republican electorate to get know and accept him, as was the case with Gov. Romney. Conservatives now know that Romney is “one of us,” after his gracious exodus speech at a stunned CPAC convention. People cried. My wife cried. I cried. You CANNOT buy that kind of endearment! Governor Mitt Romney EARNED IT!
Go McCain/Romney 2008!

Idiot, maybe you should start listening to them. You might learn something useful.

All of us, in our little corner of the blogosphere, Dumb Ox Bloggregator members or not, need to be sensible.
#1 we need to avoid a Knuckleberry vp slot!!!
And we need to stop this talk of Hillary might as well lead us into perdition.
We don't have that luxury for our children and grand-children.

Aurora: Thanks for those brilliant words. That is truly the case. Conservatives are stronger than ever. We are more committed to our cause than ever. It's like an awakening. We've been tossed too and fro over the past years, letting others make decisions for us. But now we will stand on solid ground for ourselves. We will not be moved. We will not be watered down. We will not be cold or lukewarm, we will be HOT, on fire for our cause.

Mike Volpe, you are a supreme jackass. We are a community. We are rallying together with other Conservatives to consolidate and regroup. I have also added quotes from other Conservatives on my take on this, including Debbie's. Her website and this post are excellent and I can clearly see her stance here. Why would we come up with something different to what other key conservatives are saying just to be different?
Debbie, we are still a movement with or without the odious McCain, consolidated and strong and what we have can't be destroyed by the tampering with the GOP going on right now. True Conservatives will stick with the program no matter what and become stronger and better for it and a better day than this will come.

You unless there is a mouse in your pocket, I am not sure who you speak of when say we. Just because the so called conservative establishment is against McCain doesn't mean Conservatives in general are against McCain. McCain somehow was able to win the nomination in the Republican party even though the so called Conservatives are against him.
Second, 2006 was the straw that broke the camels back. The Reps disappointed their base and they were voted out.
Your entire piece is nothing more than the regurgitation of the Conservative establishment. If I wanted to know what Ann Coulter, Rush, et al had to say, I would listen to them.
It would be better if you had your own thoughts. Here is how I see folks like you...

David: You took the words right out of my mouth.
Karen: I don't get the following for Huckabee either. It must be that he is a Baptist preacher and people are identifying with that. He's no Conservative.
If by some chance McCain chose a TRUE Conservative as his VP, I might change my mind and vote for him. That way we would have a possible Conservative president in waiting. I don't see McCain getting elected for a second term, if he wins this one.

The support by 'conservatives' for Huckabee is really interesting to me. His record in Arkansas is nothing but liberal, outside of his religious beliefs that support pro-life votes. The Republican party in Arkansas denounces him. So, why would McCain put him on the ticket for conservative votes? Maybe he will. McCain is conservative next to him.
