New Attacks on America Imminent
A new attack on American soil is imminent. That's what al-Qaeda keeps telling us. In fact, they have told us this so many times, we are becoming complacent. We don't even blink twice when a new video or audio take comes out from Zawahiri or Bin Laden. Is our government prepared? Are we as individual citizens prepared? Take a look at the following graph of the rise of Islam and mosques inside the United States:

The graph is via Always on Watch 2, with a hat-tip to Sounder, who left this link to "The Rise of Islam in America" in a comment at Foehammer's Anvil:
Excerpt from the text at the above link (emphasis AOW's):There are between 6 and 7 million Muslims in America today. In other words, Muslims outnumber some Christian denominations and are equal to the number of Jews. Research done in the year 2000 by prominent American universities and Islamic foundations show that the number of Muslims is increasing rapidly and that Islam is growing stronger day by day.The above graphic representation shows the rising numbers of mosques in America.
The main theme of this research, known as the Mosque Study Project, is the establishment of mosques in America. The reason for this is that mosques occupy a very special place in any statistical compilations done with regard to the American Muslim community. Mosques in America are both houses of worship and gathering places for talking with one another and launching cultural activities to make Islam more widely known. Every mosque establishes a relationship with the press to introduce Islam to a wider audience, speaks with local politicians, visits schools and churches, engages in interfaith dialogue and carries on other such activities. Thus, research done on these mosques is one of the most useful tools for gathering accurate and enlightening information on this community's state. [snip]
A significant part of this number is composed of people who converted to Islam. The same research shows that about 30% of those worshippers are converts. According to these data, about 20,000 Americans accept Islam every year.... (continue reading)
One of the readers at Always on Watch asked the obvious question: We know about this, so what do we DO about it? There are several things we can do.
First, we need to stop illegal aliens from entering the United States. No, this cannot be stopped completely, but we can certainly do a better job than we are doing at present. We also need to be more careful about who we legally let into the US. We need to curb the number of visas, especially student visas, for people from countries that sponsor terrorism.
Second, we need to monitor prisons where inmates are allowed to preach and convert others to Islam.
Third, we need to curb the influence of groups like CAIR inside the United States. American lawmakers need to acknowledge who the enemy is, what their teachings are, and produce laws that will both protect innocent Muslims and at the same time allow Homeland Security to weed out the radicals, including the mosques that teach terror.
Good News: Turkey in radical revision of Islamic texts.
Whether you are trying to protect yourself and your family from terrorism or from some criminal in the mall parking lot: Guns Save Lives.
John Stossel:
[snip] The press ignores the fact that often guns save lives. It's what happened in 2002 at the Appalachian School of Law. Hearing shots, two students went to their cars, got their guns and restrained the shooter until police arrested him.
Likewise, law professor Glenn Reynolds writes, "Pearl, Miss., school shooter Luke Woodham was stopped when the school's vice principal took a .45 from his truck and ran to the scene. In (last) February's Utah mall shooting, it was an off-duty police officer who happened to be on the scene and carrying a gun".
It's impossible to know exactly how often guns stop criminals. Would-be victims don't usually report crimes that don't happen. But people use guns in self-defense every day. The Cato Institute's Tom Palmer says just showing his gun to muggers once saved his life.
"It equalizes unequals," Palmer told "20/20". "If someone gets into your house, which would you rather have, a handgun or a telephone? You can call the police if you want, and they'll get there, and they'll take a picture of your dead body. But they can't get there in time to save your life. The first line of defense is you." Having just read the transcript of Zawahiri's video, I can only say that it reads like all of the other "eulogies to the fallen" that they've done. All praise Allah, the "fallen hero" and all threaten threats.
Yes, all will change when the first suicide bomber stirkes a U.S. city (but it is a when, and alot of "stuff" is in play to stop pre-empt that day).

It would send a clear and strong message to the jihadists if western governments had the mettle to deport or expel those who preach against it. But the left will never allow that under the guise of freedom of speech. I guess it's also because they like the jihadis believe that America is evil and must be brought down, no matter the cost.

I seem to remember the reason why the Japanese were rounded up was for their own safety from the rest of America. Back when men were men and ladies were ladies, we were not afraid of own damn shadows. I don't know about y'all, but I'm still not afraid. PC or not. Maybe after they start the suicide bombers on this soil...er...they already have--scratch that...maybe someday we will just get sick and tired enough?

The imminent threat was forecast by Zawahiri, in his video tape today. Which by the way took over a month to get here. That means he's buried away somewhere safe after the CIA took out al-Libi.

Debbie, informative post.
The complacency is bad now, that's for sure. Also, just as disturbing is the left doesn't think there truly is a threat. They continue to try to undo protection mechanisms for the intelligence agencies, like going on vaca instead of voting in the House to pass what the Senate passed on electronic surveillance. And, those like Clinton and Obama state that Bush is continuing to lead with fearmongering. They don't really understand the connection of foreign policy and domestic policy.

Skunkfeathers writes: "I have no detailed analysis or answers to the threat of Islamofascist terrorism..." -
You've got that right. Yuppers.

I have no detailed analysis or answers to the threat of Islamofascist terrorism, save for meet them head-on with the one and only thing they understand: overwhelming force. I know that doesn't work for the 'Mommie, make them stop, panties in a wad' crowd, but it's a proven fact that a dead terrorist won't kill anyone else.

Aw, don't worry about it, too much, the Obamessiah will save us, here's what he is going to do for our military.

Question:
AOW states between 6 and 7 million Muslims in America
Pew Research study on Religion and Public Life (from the other day) states Muslim adults represent .6% of U.S. adult population (that's .006).
U.S. Census, March 2004 says 217.8 million citizens 18+ (that would be 1.3 million adult Muslims).
According to CIA data, total U.S. Pop. in July 2007 was 301,139,947. While not directly coordinated by year, that would suggest that almost 6% of the non-adult population of the U.S. was Muslim.
While I never quote Newsmax, a Sept. 2002 article included: There are about five and a half million fewer Muslims in the U.S. a new survey of religious affiliations shows.
Instead of the 7 million Muslims in America Islamic groups have claimed, the survey found just 1.6 million.

Admittedly, this is contradicted by other "sources." But, a conclusion has to be that one of the sets of numbers is wrong.

debbie, we need the government to stop treating anyone associated with islam with kid gloves. i recognize that not all followers of islam adhere to all of its tennets, but a great many of them do.
we need to recognize that islam is a whole set of rules for governance, political speech, worship and family. it is not, merely, a religion.
we need to monitor the mosques and step in when they cross the line from preaching religion to preaching anything else. but how to do it? no idea.
thanks!

Wait...is another attack on the U.S. imminent? No. Is another attack inevitable? Maybe. Is the U.S. gov't ready for an attack? Doubtless, the argument would be that the gov't has already intervened in the "next" attack.
Now...you seem to connect the number of mosques with:
- illegal immigration
- the prison population
- CAIR
- gun control
One at a time.
Can't connect mosques with illegal immigration, but clearly, illegal immigration is connected to a degree with the potential for terrorism on U.S. soil.
Prison population - well to the extent that you can control the thinking of those who are incarcerated...ok. But, without creating mass hysteria among the prison population, control their conversion to Islam? Check with the Bureau of Prisons on the effect that would have. A 2006 report by the Homeland Security Policy Institute concluded that radicalization within the prison system is a threat. The question, when speaking with a friend of mine involved with the BoP is how to actually do anything about it. Quoting from the report:
• Radicalization is neither unique to Islam nor a recent phenomenon, and remains the exception among prisoners rather than the rule. Right-wing extremist groups are also present in prisons and have an extensive history of terrorist attacks.
• “Jailhouse Islam”, based upon cut-and-paste versions of the Qur’an, incorporates
violent prison culture into religious practice.
• The inadequate number of Muslim religious services providers increases the risk of radicalization. Further, upon release from prison, the inability to track inmates coupled with lack of social support to reintegrate them into the community gives rise to a vulnerable moment in which they may be recruited by radical groups, posing as
social support organizations that are more interested in their own extremist agendas than in the welfare of released prisoners.
• Information collection and sharing between and among federal, state and local prison systems is integral to tracking radical behavior of prisoners and religious services providers. Significant strides have been made at the federal level, but change at the
state and local level, where the overwhelming majority of inmates are incarcerated, is much more difficult to assess.
• Resource limitations – both in terms of manpower and financing – hinder efforts to combat prisoner radicalization. Officials in California report that every investigation into radical groups in their prisons uncovers new leads, but that they simply do not
have enough investigators to follow every case of radicalization.
• Radicalization in prisons is a global problem and bears upon the national security of the U.S. In Europe, Latin America and elsewhere the threat has progressed farther than it has in the U.S., giving officials the opportunity to learn from foreign prison
radicalization cases so as to confront the problem here in its early stages. Information sharing between and among the U.S. and other countries is crucial.
• At present there is insufficient information about prisoner radicalization to qualify
the threat. There is a significant lack of social science research on this issue. No comprehensive records currently exist, for example, on the religious affiliations of
inmates when they enter prison. This can be improved by policies that promote good research while continuing to secure the rights of inmates who are involved in these studies.
• Prison officials are understandably stretched thin by the need to maintain order in overcrowded and under-funded facilities. Nevertheless, because information is an essential precursor to action, investigation of radicalization in prisons must become a homeland security and counterterrorism priority.
• Religious radicalization within prisons is a complex problem. No one profession
alone is equipped to analyze and recommend change. A multi-disciplinary approach that includes perspectives of religion, criminal justice, intelligence, law, and
behavioral sciences is necessary for proactive analysis of the phenomenon.
• Knowledge must be translated into action. Awareness, education and training programs must be developed for personnel working in prison, probation and parole settings.
• The Intelligence Reform Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 calls for the establishment of the Information Sharing Environment (ISE) to support our nation's
counter-terrorism efforts. It is critical that information regarding the radicalization of prisoners in state, local, and federal correctional facilities be included as part of the body of information shared through the ISE.
CAIR is slowly losing funding. Its hard since their "front" has been so good. I'm not involved with much of that, but people like Bill West, Dennis Lormel and Matthew Levitt have be ontop of this issue.
Gun control...no direct correlation to another attck on U.S. soil. It would be nice to be able to urea and nitrate sales (which is being done, but still doesn't stop everything). If an attack on U.S. soil does happen (and its a conventional one - which is unlikely), I'd rather have a gun than not.
Hope that you don't mind this long comment, but I'm on a lunch break.

Note the graph...it stops at the pre-911 era. Our doors were flung open to Islam and Islamists in the hours and minutes after the Saudi led attacks against the USA.
6 and 7 million Muslims is an extremely conservative and optimistic assessment of our 5th column. This is really scary!
