According to Cliff Kincaid of Accuracy in the Media, "Senator Joe Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee ... is trying to rush Obama's "Global Poverty Act" (S.2433) through his committee. . The legislation would commit the U.S. to spending 0.7 percent of gross national product on foreign aid, which amounts to a phenomenal 13-year total of $845 billion over and above what the U.S. already spends."
Why is Barack Obama suddenly interested in passing some kind of legislation? He has done NOTHING in the past, no record in the Senate to run on other than being the MOST LIBERAL of all Senators? Does he need something to run on, some ONE thing that he can brag about on the campaign trail.
If this is a worthy bill, why try to rush it through in the dead of night? Why try to hide the true cost of the bill to American taxpayers and voters? I say let the light shine. Voters, is this REALLY what you want from a president? Do we really want the United Nations telling us what to do? It's madness, absolute madness.
A nice-sounding bill called the "Global Poverty Act," sponsored by Democratic presidential candidate and Senator Barack Obama, is up for a Senate vote on Thursday and could result in the imposition of a global tax on the United States. The bill, which has the support of many liberal religious groups, makes levels of U.S. foreign aid spending subservient to the dictates of the United Nations. [snip]
The bill, which is item number four on the committee's business meeting agenda, passed the House by a voice vote last year because most members didn't realize what was in it. Congressional sponsors have been careful not to calculate the amount of foreign aid spending that it would require. According to the website of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, no hearings have been held on the Obama bill in that body. (more)
Obama, Hagel, Cantwell Introduce Bill to Fight Global Poverty - Legislation would aim to cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Barack Obama (D-IL), Chuck Hagel (R-NE) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) have introduced the Global Poverty Act (S.2433), which requires the President to develop and implement a comprehensive policy to cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015 through aid, trade, debt relief, and coordination with the international community, businesses and NGOs. Representatives Adam Smith (D-WA) and Spencer Bachus (R-AL) sponsored the House version of the bill (H.R. 1302), which passed the House in September.
“Eliminating global poverty remains one of the greatest challenges we face, with billions of people around the world forced to live on just dollars a day,” said Senator Obama. “We can – and must – make it a priority of our foreign policy to commit to eliminating extreme poverty and ensuring every child has food, shelter, and clean drinking water. As we strive to rebuild America’s standing in the world, this legislation will not only commit to reducing global poverty, but will also demonstrate our promise and support to those in the developing world. Our commitment to the global economy has to extend beyond trade agreements that are more about increasing corporate profits than about helping workers and small farmers everywhere.” (more)

Its Obama’s plan to feed the world with fish and loaves – and our tax dollars. The water to wine bill must still in committee.

As a real conservative, one that actually has values, I think the U.S. is far better off doing some good with our dollars than we are wasting it on silly military adventures like we've done in Iraq.
In the past we spent money propping up dictators and bombing civilians. Let's spend the money making lives better. If we do that, those people will be very disinclined to go backwards and will deal with their own rebels before they reach us.
$865 billion over 13 years is a bargain. Compare it to the $2 trillion Bush's fiasco is going cost ultimately and you'll see the wisdom.

That sums things up nicely. I too have been pointing out what we can expect from an Obama administration: Higher taxes, dramatic welfare and anti-corporate legislation, and retreat in Iraq and the war on terror.

Progressives and their "give-away guilt" mentality will be the death of us all. A vote for a progressive is a vote for national suicide.

Faultline nails it, it's the Liberals wish, to tear America down and spread the wealth, it never occurs to them that once it's done, that's it. First you have to make money before you give it away.
Equality in poverty that's the goal.

Debbie, great article. Obama's "Global Poverty Act" (S.2433) is all about the redistribution of wealth, and the deconstruction of American sovereignty, and this is the fastest way for Obama and his minions to get us there.

You know Deb,... I was going to pile-on and ridicule this action just on its merit,... but then I thought about it for a few seconds and decided to get serious (a real stretch for me, I know).
Although I differ with the Obama/Hagel initiative in principle, I do agree that world poverty has an effect on other areas that we indeed are investing precious blood and treasure to fix or placate. There is no denying that poverty, oppression and the feeling of helplessness leads many a fine young humans to the road of madness, religious zealotry and socialism in one form or another. One can call it lack of education or enlightenment, ... one can call it anything and blame it on whatever seems expedient at the moment. Regardless of the provisions of this bill (which on the surface is just frosting on a stupid cake), third world poverty is going to bite our way of life in the ass sooner or later. Its up to us to decide if we are going to take it in the shorts and (help) fix the problem, or if we are going to say F-it, let the next couple of generations have to digest it.

There's a clear bias in the media against saying anything against Obama. The opposite is true of Clinton.
Even Glenn Beck, who usually is rudely up front about illegal aliens and is very hard on Liberals, has been circumspect about Obama. I've been watching his face closely when he refers to Obama and his face freezes up while he says vaguely positive things about him. He looks almost embarassed.
Clearly, he's being heavily pressured to NOT say anything about that muslim that his bosses don't want us to know, and this goes against his moral grain. But if he did, they'd fire him and then he'd have no voice at all and no job.
The only thing I can figure is that the Saudis have bought into our media a lot more heavily than we know.
Something else to start researching.....
