Super Tuesday was tragic day for many, specifically those in Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Kentucky ... The victims included 24 people in Tennessee, 13 in Arkansas, seven in Kentucky and three in Alabama, part of a rare spasm of winter weather that raged across the nation's midsection, emergency officials said. (AP)
Union University in Jackson Tennessee had major damage to residence halls, with close to 70 people being treated at the Jackson Madison County Hospital. Most have been treated and released, and no fatalities.
Here at the house on the river, we had strong winds, scary lighting, and rain. In the county where we live there were several tornado sightings and I don't have information on the damage yet. We are very thankful to be safe and sound.
This should be a wakeup call to everyone. Be prepared. Follow directions, have a 'safe room', have water and food, have a generator and plenty gasoline to run it, have flashlights, batteries, LED lanterns. Be prepared with emergency radios, battery powered TV, fans. Have supplies of your medications and also take care of your pets. Our Beagle was in the safe room and we were prepared to join her twice last night, when tornadoes came close to our place.
I spent part of the early evening talking to another blogger on the phone. You know who you are, thanks for the call. We watched the election results as we listened to the emergency radios and followed the storm in real time on the internet. There are many things I don't understand about this election. One is Huckabee. I'm hoping that people are not voting for him simply because he is a Christian minister. This would be a great disservice to America. Also on Huckabee, I'm surprised at the arrogance and smarmy attitude and comments coming from him, a preacher. Read: Huckabee: This is a Two Man Race, and I'm In It!
Second, is the acceptance of Juan MexiCain and the rejection of Mitt Romney. Read : Tony Blankley's Curious Omission
In his piece titled "The strange GOP nominating victory," Blankley said:Assuming John McCain gets the Republican nomination, it will show how whimsical history can be. It would be the first time in living memory that a Republican presidential nomination went to a candidate who was not merely opposed by a majority of the party, but was actively despised by about a half of its rank-and-file voters across the country —and by many if not most of its congressional officeholders. This is not really true. Wendell Wilkie was widely despised by all the regular Republican party bigwigs when he won the nomination through popular acclaim in a dark horse candidacy.
Gribbit is making The Case Against Casting a Republican Vote in November. You should go read it all here. He goes into Huckabee's history, quotes the Club for Growth, has video and more. It's a MUST READ.
Conservatives have several options in November. We can suck it up and vote McCain; we can vote None Of The Above; we can write in a candidate; we can vote Democrat; or we can not vote at all. If McCain is the candidate, I will vote, but I will write in a candidate. I refuse to vote for McCain or Huckabee.
It's up to each of you to decide what's right for you.
Neal Boortz shares some Polling Place Fun, hat tip Hubby
Harold sends us this and says:This morning, my wife and I went to our local polling place in Kennesaw, Georgia. (The Martha J Moore Educational Services Center)
As we walked towards the building, we noticed several signs that led us to the polling entrance. When we got inside, someone asked what this particular building was used for and they were told, "teachers come here for training."
I'm so proud of our Educational Services Center! I bet they put out some fine teachers.

I looked at some pictures sent by a friend of the devastation at Union University in Jackson, TN.
That nobody died there is truly a miracle.

LIKE YOU SAID DEB, BEING PREPARED IS HALF THE BATTLE. SO MANY PEOPLE ARE NOT PREPARED FOR ANYTHING NOW A DAYS. I CAN SURVIVE MOST ANYTHING WHERE I LIVE. LOTS OF DEER, CLEAN WATER. AND NOT TO MENTION I GOT A WOOD STOVE. AND A HONDA GENERATOR IF I NEED IT. AND CREEKS WITH FISH. AND I GOT ENOUGH AMMO STOCK PILED , PLUS I LOAD MY OWN TOO. I,M READY FOR A GUERILLA WAR WITH ANY MUSLIME ARMY, OR CHINESE COMMIE B!@#$%D THAT TRIES TO OVER RUN MY COUNTRY. WE NEED TO THINK IN TERMS OF MARTIAL THE WAY THINGS ARE GOING THATS FOR SURE. WE SHOULD BE TRAINING OUR KIDS TO BE SOLDIERS AND TRAIN THEM IN THE MARTIAL ARTS BECAUSE THE TIME IS COMING WHERE THEY,LL HAVE TO FIGHT THE MENACE WE FACE. MARCUS LUTTRELS DAD TAUGHT HIM WELL. (NAVY SEAL IN SOLE SURVIVOR) HE WAS BORN INTO THE WARRIOR CLASS AND GROOMED TO BE A WARRIOR. THATS WHAT WE SHOULD BE DOING WITH OUR KIDS. INSTEAD OF FEEDING THEM RITALIN AND LETTING THEM GET ALL PIERICED UP. SOONER OR LATER THE YOUTH OF OUR COUNTRIES WILL HAVE TO STEP UP. DO THEY GOT IT IN EM???? SOME DO, BUT A LOT DON,T.

Paladin: Thanks for asking. We had quite a few tornadoes in Tennessee, but the ones headed toward us took a turn at the last minute. No damage here. But we were prepared just in case.

Grouch: That site is truly amazing. I was watching it with you last night, and if it only costs $5.00, it is well worth the price.
fouse, gary c: Those must have been some rallies. How did you stand watching them?
I heard today that Hillary is out of money, her staff is working without pay this month and she had to invest 5 million of her own money last month. That's not good for her and Bill.

This past weekend, I had the "opportunity" to watch two rallies on TV. One was a rally in East LA for Hillary Clinton. What was so striking about this one was that on the stage with her was virtually every rotten politician that has run California into the mud in recent years. There was LA Mayor, Tony Villaraigosa (her national campaign co-chair) fresh off his revealed love affair with Telemundo reporter, Mirthala Salinas. There was State Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, under a very dark cloud for his extravagant travels around the world on various boondoggles. There was Maxine Waters, Congresswoman from the LA area and one of the more obnoxious members of Congress. Left-wing activist Ron Dellums, former congressman and now mayor of Oakland, presiding over one of the nation's worst murder rates was there as well. State political hack Gloria Molina was there-even drawing some well-deserved boos when her name was mentioned. Worst of all, ex-governor Gray Davis was there. This was the guy who was recalled by voters a few years back after he nearly bankrupted the state with his liberal, out of control spending. (Of course, now Governor Schwarzenegger is carrying on the grand tradition.)
Then there was Hillary, who gave a long "stemwinder" promising everything from free government cheese to a cure for restless leg syndrome. She was at her oratorical worst, loud and shrill-but the crowd loved it.
Meanwhile, back in Boston, Teddy Kennedy, "fresh" from his trip to the West Coast, presided over a campaign rally for Barack Obama. His speech began at 11pm (and you know what that means.) Yes, Teddy was pretty much feeling no pain as he rambled on about his trip out west. What was really cool was how he kept referring to Obama as Deval Patrick (the African-American governor of Massachusetts), who was also on stage. I counted at least 3 times Kennedy used Patrick's name in referring to Obama. In the crowd behind Kennedy were 3 or 4 black guys who cracked up every time he did that. At least he didn't call him Osama bin Laden.
In the case of the LA rally, one would have thought that any sensible voter would have taken one look at the rogue's gallery on stage with Clinton and gone straight out to vote for Obama. Not a chance. Hillary carried California comfortably, which pretty much shows you in whose hands this state lies.
In the case of Massachusetts, the endorsements of Kennedy, Patrick and John Kerry were not enough to give the state to Obama. But hey, when you have a drunk leading your pep rally, you can't expect great results.

To my knowledge there was no significant damage from the storms in our county. Other places were not so lucky. I watched a rotating cell on radar as it approached us (tornado warning #1), in fact, it was headed right for us, but then at the last minute it veered off to the south. Whew! A second rotating cell about 11PM passed just to the north of us (tornado warning #2). Whew!
I am a very weather wise person and when I tell little wifey we better prepare to head for the safe room, she knows I'm serious.
For those of you that are not aware, there is a great weather site:
http://www.wunderground.com/
For a 5 dollar per year subscription you can get commercial free service and 3 hour radar loops. I especially like the Storm Relative Mean Radial Velocity Page:
http://www.wunderground.com/radar/radblast.asp?zoommode=pan&prevzoom=zoom&num=1&frame=0&delay=15&scale=1.000&noclutter=0&ID=NQA&type=N0S&showstorms=0&lat=0&lon=0&label=you&map.x=400&map.y=240&scale=1.000¢erx=400¢ery=240&showlabels=1&rainsnow=0&lightning=0&lerror=20&num_stns_min=2&num_stns_max=9999&avg_off=9999
You can watch wind moving toward and away from the radar, detect rotating storms, and superimpose warning boxes on top of the radar images. Neat! Check it out.

chiefpayne: You are absolutely correct. No real difference in those choices. Send a message to the National GOP, that's what I say.
Jack: Ditto

The simple fact is, McCain will be the Republican nominee...and Huckabee is counting on his being setup as the VP.
Of course since there are those who could not or would not compromise and go with either Thompson or Rudy...and do NOT like Romney, there is no one for conservatives to vote for in November.
Thus while McCain will most likely be the Republican nominee and Huckabee his VP, they will NOT win the White House and will in fact be humiliated by a lack of votes. This will be because the conservative part of the GOP will not vote in November and will leave McCain to hang out to dry...and we will have Hillary or Obama in the White House.
For if the race is between McCain or Hillary or McCain and Obama, what is the difference really? After all, no matter WHO wins in that scenario, a LIBERAL will be in the White House. And if that is to be the results, the conservatives will just choose not to vote.

This is going to be the wildest election we have had in a long time.
