Your money goes to Mexico's southern border
Bush to secure Mexico’s Southern Border by Toni at Bear Creek Ledger
Remember that honking omnibus bill signed without most legislators even knowing what was in the thousands of pages of funding? WELL, tucked into that funding is $1.4 BILLION to help Mexico secure their southern border. Yeah, you read that right, not the US southern border with Mexico but Mexico’s southern border. I was in a snit last year when I read about the proposed $550 MILLION aid to Mexico but that amount has now more than doubled.
From Michelle Malkin we learn about “The Merica Initiative”! This at a time when our Congress de-funded the fence they committed to building. So, now we’re funding Mexico instead of our own borders. This at a time when the Mexican military has been invading our country in the protection of drug cartels smuggling into the US we are going to fund military equipment to MEXICO!!!
The plan is called “The Merida Initiative.” Seems that the White House has had this plan in the works for nearly a year with little congressional input on either side of the border.
We can’t finish our own border fence, properly supply our immigration agents and border patrol with all the equipment and resources they need, or get our house in order. Yet, the Bush administration wants to fork over $1.4 billion to Mexico and Central America–with much of it going into the hands of corrupt law enforcement officials and government bureaucrats who have worked tirelessly to undermine our immigration laws. The funding is tucked into the 2008 supplemental budget.
Naturally, the State Department has taken a lead role. They’ve held meetings in secret and cut out members of Congress from discussion. You’ll love the explanation for the secrecy: Mexico is “sensitive,” you see. Also, according to one expert, “Mexico is very protective of its sovereignty and very worried about any incursion of U.S. security forces or private contractors—like Blackwater—coming in to train Mexicans.” Yeah, they’re worried about incursions and sovereignty.
Yeah, isn’t that just a kicker, Mexico is worried about their sovereignty. And of course, we couldn’t go without referencing that evil “Blackwater”. It wouldn’t surprise me if John McCain’s Hispanic Outreach Director, Juan Hernandez, didn’t help formulate this monstrosity.
There’s many more details at Michelle Malkin.

Rosie: We already send millions and millions of dollars to Mexico, we give them other support also. How much is enough?

Or we could all straighten out our priorities: yes, our funds should not be going towards Mexico's corrupt government, that I agree with...but wouldn't you rather help send aid (i.e. food, set up social justice/economy programs, etc.) to help the people? If we spent our money on things that could ultimately strengthen Mexican indepedence rather than on some hypocritical, anti-patriotic wall we could help cure the illness rather than just suppress the sympoms. Until you have all been to Mexico and have seen the unfathomable poverty that grows there I really don't think you have the right to bitch about people wanting to come HERE to do YOUR dirty work; simply to work and help support their families so they wouldn't be forced to scrounge through landfills for a living. Did the Europeans not wipe out the natives to establish the earliest United States of America? People from South and Central America aren't even out to wipe Americans out- they just want to provide for their families. Maybe if you tried talking to someone who came here illegally and tried to understand life from their point of view you'd understand a little more. Exclusivity and prejudice come from ignorance. Fear comes from ignorance. Practice true patriotism and educate yourself.

Unbelievable ... the more I read about this, the more sick to my stomach I get. Graft rules in Mexico and I am predicting that not a penny will be spent on border security ... although some government officials will be getting some really nice villas.

It is hard to believe, but it's true. I don't understand our government. Clinton, Obama and even McCain would be the same on illegal immigration.

I'd mentioned this "aid" package in passing on 1/27 but didn't go into it in depth, only that it's tied to them controlling their gang wars on our mutual borders. This is why they've been going into Tiajuana and other border towns battling the druggos, but does anyone actually believe all that money will go to that purpose, considering that every single Mexican who can get on the take, will?
Mexico is basically one big Mafia nation. They make our mob look like pikers.
Their sovereignty has nothing to do with anything. the purpose is to have as free access to peddle their drugs as possible.
