Racist remarks?

Racist remarks or not? You decide. U.S. Rep. Steve King:

"I don't want to disparage anyone because of their race, their ethnicity, their name - whatever their religion their father might have been," he said. "I'll just say this: When you think about the option of a Barack Obama potentially getting elected President of the United States -- I mean, what does this look like to the rest of the world? What does it look like to the world of Islam?"

He continued: "I will tell you that, if he is elected president, then the radical Islamists, the al-Qaida, the radical Islamists and their supporters, will be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on September 11 because they will declare victory in this War on Terror."

"Additionally, his middle name (Hussein) does matter," King said. "It matters because they read a meaning into that in the rest of the world. That has a special meaning to them. They will be dancing in the streets because of his middle name. They will be dancing in the streets because of who his father was and because of his posture that says: Pull out of the Middle East and pull out of this conflict."

He continued: "There are implications that have to do with who he is and the position that he's taken. If he were strong on national defense and said 'I'm going to go over there and we're going to fight and we're going to win, we'll come home with a victory,' that's different. But that's not what he said. They will be dancing in the streets if he's elected president. That has a chilling aspect on how difficult it will be to ever win this Global War on Terror."

Obama spox Bill Burton: “These comments have no place in our politics, and we hope Senator McCain will repudiate them like he has previous offensive comments from his supporters.”

McCain spox Jill Hazelbaker: "Our position on this is very clear. We are against the kind of politics that divide and degrade people in the process." (via Jake Tapper at Political Punch)

"Iraqus Interruptus": Jocularity yes, but messy as well.

""Iraqus interruptus""

Yes, the jocularity was most impressive.

Hi Grouch! Did you like the "Iraqus interruptus" line?

This is fun! The only thing better is a fat redneck girl slapfest during midget stripper night down at the Ram-it-All Inn Tavern.

I am quite familiar with the FACT that Ashcroft turned down FBI funding requests for Arabic translators on Sept. 10, 2001. I am also quite aware that premature withdrawal (Iraqus interruptus) would have severe implications on the region...and yes, more severe than staying there. We can disagree all you wish. I won't take up Debbie's pixels debating the issue with you here (and I'm not writing about it myself).

I agree 100% with your statement, but sweeping generalizations are never always true as they are never always false. This administration stood down the FBI and ignored the intelligence, that is what is significant here and cannot be ignored. ....Withdrawl is worse for who?

Do you understand that National Intelligence and analysis is not a science, that it is an art form...and that you're only as good as the information that you have at a given time? Do you understand that once committed, withdrawal is potentially a worse outcome than staying? That is what Colin Powell meant.

Don't put words in my mouth Grouch, yes Neil Armstrong walked on the moon.

Stormwarning.." Any allusion to the fact that the Towers were brought down by anything but the planes flown by jihadi terrorists is not only offensive to me (and the memories of all who died that morning), but is offensive in its ignorance."..... I live in the Poconos I know people that died and survived the Towers, my brother in law works 13 blocks from towers, I work for a NY clientel some of whom were there and none of this has anything to do with a narrow minded view as to who brought down the towers!

...."Whether or not President Bush and the Administration made errors of ommission and commission in the aftermath is not the issue; whether or not the rationales for Iraq were proven or not after the fact is not the issue".... WAKE UP these are the issues.

KAK

KAK, you don't know me, and I don't know you. For one, I am not a "namecaller" as you put it. What I know about you is that we disagree on certain things. We clearly disagree on the events of September 11th. I was living there at the time. My daughter and ex-wife were in the City at the moment it happened. I saw firetrucks lining up on the sidestreet near my office on LI, staging to go to NYC. I know people who lost friends, co-workers and relatives in the Towers. Any allusion to the fact that the Towers were brought down by anything but the planes flown by jihadi terrorists is not only offensive to me (and the memories of all who died that morning), but is offensive in its ignorance.

Whether or not President Bush and the Administration made errors of ommission and commission in the aftermath is not the issue; whether or not the rationales for Iraq were proven or not after the fact is not the issue. When you repeat simple BS, you cast yourself in a select group of people. Its a group in which I wouldn't want to belong or be associated with. And its a group that clearly has its head planted in a very dark and odoriferous place.

Hmmmmm, yeah, Neil Armstrong didn't really walk on the moon either. It was all a fake!

Sigh!

No we didn't attack ourselves, But we had an administration that did it's damdest to maximize the effects of the attack! Go back to the at the time radio, TV and print archives, I don't mean go to the conspiricy sites, many sources say there were explosions going off, firemen heard explosions and called off the rescue attempts. Go listen to their radio calls and interviews. Listen to the maintenance man that opened the elevator doors. And yes watch Evidence of 9-11, that film I wasn't going to let sway me either until I watched it over and over for two days straight after letting it sit for two years. Call these people what you namecallers want, they do at least bring enough questions to the forefront to make us realize 911 needs revisiting and with investigators not tied to Bush, Cheney or Condeliza Rice. Unlike the Kennedy assination, the 911 response by this country affected the world in a significant fassion, there will be world pressure as well as American public pressure, I believe an effort to get to the bottom of 911 will be fourthcomming.

KAK, and here I thought that you might be worth reading from time to time, even though we disagree. When you start with the conspiracy theories that we attacked ourselves, it is clear where your head is (you are now unbookmarked).

"Skunkfeather as time marches on here If you are paying any attention the towers it seems were brought down by explosions as in building demo implosion. You will find Bush and cronies before a jury and have to revise your theories. "

BEHOLD! Yet another statement so foolish that any thinking person cannot respond to it!

Skunkfeather as time marches on here If you are paying any attention the towers it seems were brought down by explosions as in building demo implosion. You will find Bush and cronies before a jury and have to revise your theories.

All of his liberal stances and non-positions on issues and his lack of any experience on the National or International stage are reasons enough not to vote for him and speak out against his candidacy. When race and religion are used as trumped up excuses ontop of the very real reasons not to vote for him, is when it gets unneccesarily messy (IMO).

For the sake of discussion here, the quote everyone picked up from King’s statement-- "the terrorists dancing in the streets", was only one sentence in a very LONG quote, which was carefully worded and presented by King. He said what he meant, explained what he said and why he said it and he is not backing down from the statement.

The point I think King was trying to make is: What Muslims BELIEVE, what's true, and what Americans believe, are not necessarily the same thing.

This was the point of King’s statement, IF some terrorists BELIEVE Obama to be Muslim or believe him to be sympathetic to them and their cause, they will be dancing in the streets.

The truth is: he was born to a Muslim father and in the eyes of the religion to many Muslims, he was/is/and will always be Muslim because THEY believe him to be BORN into the religion.

It DOES matter whether Obama is/was/will be a Muslim, because if he was/is/will be a Muslim it would influence his decisions about this country and keeping it safe.

It matters that he is so far Left he would be a disaster for this country.

It also matters that he is a long time member of a church that is, in my opinion, racist… and he’s proud of that membership.

It matters that he not only HAD connections to very questionable people, that he continues those connections.

It matters that he seems to see the US as the bad guy in the world, that the way to win votes is to promise big government give-aways. This reminds me that the government HAS no money of it’s own, therefore he, like Hillary, will have to increase taxes to pay for these programs.

It matters that McCain’s only redeeming quality seems to be his military past and his support of the war in Iraq (not homeland security, or he would not be for open borders). All these things matter.

Now, is that as clear as mud?

"I fail to see why it matters if Obama is a Muslim or not. As we all know, not all Muslims are terrorists and, of course, not all Muslims are card-carrying Al-Qaeda members. Anyone who thinks otherwise is not racist, but an ignorant bigot.

America would be better off with a Muslim president than another foolish Christian president. It's unfortunate that no Muslims are running for president."

This is so foolish a statement that one cannot logically respond to it.

Dear Ali, thank you for providing a link to a very informative article.

I fail to see why it matters if Obama is a Muslim or not. As we all know, not all Muslims are terrorists and, of course, not all Muslims are card-carrying Al-Qaeda members. Anyone who thinks otherwise is not racist, but an ignorant bigot.

America would be better off with a Muslim president than another foolish Christian president. It's unfortunate that no Muslims are running for president.

Al Qaeda, Islam is not a 'race', for the millionth time. I can't believe anyone falls for that taqiyya tactic.

I guess no one spotted the al Jazeera english polls on the election as well as the percentages in each country (afterwhich, they gathered countries to just middle east mind you), but I have the cache. I remember their poll on Osama, he got 49.5%, Obama has more.

The question no one asks is, true or not. To ortho:
If it makes you feel better, the Gitmo attorneys support him (just for deflection):

http://www.miamiherald.com/campaign08/story/397317.html

Since we're on the subject Mr. Skunkfeathers, I wonder if you'd be so kind as to tell me which bucket you'd place me into. I won't hold it against you. Just wondering how you see it after all of this time for both of us leaving comments here. Thanks.

PS: I think that I know the answers for some of the "others" so that's why I'm asking you.

"If he were strong on national defense and said 'I'm going to go over there and we're going to fight and we're going to win, we'll come home with a victory,' that's different."

Exactly, i don't detect anything racist in the words, i feel the same way.

Obama's record and comments are public record. Between his well-publicized remarks, and those of his 'embarrassed to be an American until recently' spoiled brat wife, I think the comments by Rep. King are heart-felt and not far from the mark.

As for embarrassments to people, districts, et al., people who have forgotten 9/11 and the bastards who launched the attack, as well as their oft-stated intention to do it again and again, those ignorant, heads-in-the-sand, 'mommy make them stop' appeasers and terror-apologists are the true embarrassments to America.

amen is all I have to say!:)

This is right on the mark. Not to mention that he has no experience!

I don't know nor care about Mr. King's remarks.

I do know that Hussein Obama is the most liberal senator in the senate and that is more than enough to oppose him at every turn.

I do not know but I suspect that Hussein is a muslim and if not a muslim, he is a muslim sympathizer and will not protect this country from enemies foreign and domestic. I guess that makes me a racist, or maybe a Nazi???

I believe ortho has stutter problems...

Rep King's remarks are right on and accurate.

A reminder that there are two Congressmen Kings in the House. One of them is Steven King. May I remind all that he is the same Cong. King who called to electrify the border fence saying that electrified fences were okay for cattle, so why not illegal aliens. He was right on the need for border security, but as in this case, his mouth and the words that come from it are offensive...and in this case, stupid.

Vote McCain.

Ortho...well said..well said..well said!

Rep. Steve King and his slanderous remarks are an embarrassment to himself, his family, his district, and the U.S. House of Representatives. His remarks are based on slanderous lies and designed to manipulate the fears of ignorant Americans.

I have news for you Mr. King, Americans will not be manipulated by your lies!

I pray that House Democrats and Republicans unite to censor Mr. King.
