I'm sure you have all heard that Republican U.S. presidential candidate John McCain accused North Carolina's Republican Party of being "out of touch with reality" over its refusal to pull an advertisement criticizing Democrat Barack Obama.
"They're not listening to me because they're out of touch with reality and the Republican Party.
I cannot express how angry and insulted I am at McCain's remarks. I had decided just last week to suck it up and vote for John McCain, rather than voting "none of the above", or writing in a name just to send a message to the RNC. But after this ...
I think the North Carolina Republicans are doing the right thing by running the Rev. Jeremiah Wright ad and I applaud them. LGF says "John McCain attacks the North Carolina GOP..." That's true, McCain ATTACKS the NC GOP, but he is TORTURING ALL CONSERVATIVES.
Here's some random reactions from others:
Politico:
Besides being an embarrasment for McCain, this whole affair gets at something that has before and will again peeve conservatives. These folks emphatically want to hammer Obama on Wright and on other matters relating to patriotism. When their standard bearer throws cold water on that effort, it reminds them some of the reasons they didn't love McCain in the first place.Hayhurst For America:
While I was 99.99999999999% sure I was not going to give in and vote for McCain, this statement alone by McCain has now put the final nail in the coffin for any hope of me voting for him this November. The McCain nomination by the GOP has allowed America to peer into it’s window and watch it’s death. On Freedom's Wing:
Where do I start? First of all, Senator McCain, you are not the boss of the GOP. Secondly, I wonder how you feel about free speech. Thirdly, the only person who has been out of touch for years with the Republican Party is you, my friend. Fourthly, if you are not the one out of touch and you actually represent Republicans, count me out. As a matter of fact, I just might declare myself Independent and be done with these damn deaf Republicans anyway. Fifthly, I recognize that you are a war hero, but how dare you invoke the names of Reagan and Lincoln. Do you actually think that any conservatives believe your blithering lies about how you have turned over a conservative leaf?Listen up Conservatives: John McCain has just clearly told you what he thinks of you. If you go forward with voting for him, you will get more of this and he won’t even stop a moment to listen to you.
Andy Barnett's Culture War Blog:
John McCain may think that everything is hunky-doory, and that his road to the White House seems certain. Let me be the first to say that if he continues these types of actions he will alienate conservatives even further, and that is risky business. Many of us are less than excited about John McCain and his candidacy as it is. It won’t take much to swing conservatives from quietly supporting John McCain to not supporting John McCain at all.Do you hear me Senator McCain or are you out of touch with conservatives like me?
Laura's Miscellaneous Musings:
He's more interested in badmouthing the President and his own party than in laying blame where it's due, i.e., the state and local officials in New Orleans, or on Barack Obama and Jeremiah Wright.Just when a conservative thinks maybe it's possible to vote for McCain as the best of three bad choices, he goes and cozies up to liberals again, and all bets are off.
Scout.com
He has to carry North Carolina in November. Sure, we're not a swing state or anything, but we almost always vote Republican for the presidential race. He can't go running around the country and pissing off the local GOP every time there's a negative campaign ad.

Isn't it interesting that McCain can't find the spine to confront the Socialists on their track to a Marxist gub'ment, but he can find the spine to insult and attack those who he needs to vote for him?
Yeah, that's running a campaign based in reality! McCain--What a nutcase!

ZEE: Sue Myrick is a great woman and I appreciate her stance. I hope she starts a new movement and many follow in her footsteps.

Old Atlantic Lighthouse:
This is a wonderful idea. McCain has been pushed down our throats and I'm sick of it. Maybe if enough people voted NONE OF THE ABOVE, we could have had another nominee, but we were not even given that chance.
The proposal about the NC ad will never get anywhere, unfortunately. It has been tagged 'racist', which of course it is NOT. But others are already starting to talk negatively about NC's move to run it. We are living in a warped time my friend.
A new "Conservative" party might be just the thing...

Debbie, I do appreciate your collection of reactions. There is only so long you can hold your nose before requiring a little bit of oxygen. With McCain, it's just another breath of poisoned air.
Sue Myrick is another North Carolina Republican who knows how to challenge the enemy too. I think McCain needs to start drinking some of that Carolinian water and flush out his system.

I propose the Republican National Convention adopt a resolution that no person may accept its nomination who does not first in writing accept the NC Ad and take the NumbersUSA no amnesty, no path to legalization pledge. See link for more details on proposed resolution.

I am not looking forward to November. In fact, I can't remember when I've been so discouraged about America's future.

We will see if a Democrat president will be any better liked by their voters than the 2006 Democrat congress, which hasn't done anything they promised. Their voters should be very upset.
I'm voting NONE OF THE ABOVE is given that option, if not I will write in Fred Thompson.

Too bad the "American Conservative" does not have a candidate he can vote for in this November's elections.
I recommend that the "American Conservative" sit this election out. Better luck next time.

McCain goes beyond RINO status. He's one of them. This is not the first time he's bashed Republicans over their fight against Obama. Really as one of the other commentators has already said, we're screwed. Is it better to do anything we can to avoid the election of Hillary or Obama? Or should we preserve the integrity of our movement by not voting for this jackass under any circumstances? Who can say for sure? All I know is that Conservatism and Conservatives in America are facing some really tough times!

Boy am I disgusted. I been sitting back hoping against hope that McCain would sooner or later say or do something that would make me hold my nose and vote for him, but week after week he pushes me farther away.
This NC RNC thing is the last straw for me. I guess I won't be pulling the switch at all or it will be a write-in.
I heard my good friend Rush Limbaugh say a while back that if McCain couldn't beat either one of the Democrat candidates in the general election then it would be his own fault. I am seeing this prophecy beginning to materialize.
We are screwed with whoever gets elected so if the next president is gonna screw things up, it might as well be a Democrat. Let the Dems take the blame.
John McCain.....Just who does he think he is anyway? This RNC ad had nothing to do with the presidential election anyway. He could have and should have just kept his mouth shut.

McCain is a jerk. PERIOD. I wish we had another candidate to chose from. He really is making me ill.
Have you heard that Ham-ASS is endorsing Obama yo mama? Sick, just sick!

I'd rather be screwed by McCain than Barack or Hillary.
OK, that didn't come out right.

Carl: I agree with you, we are SCREWED no matter who gets elected, at least for the next 4 years, maybe 8, or more.
Heaven help us all.

McCain? The abusive little troll? Out of touch with reality?
Well, DUH!
I've been saying it all along, Obama...Clinton...McCain...all out of touch with reality and the average American willing to say and do anything to get elected POTUS. IMHO, whoever gets elected will screw up America in the next four years along with a complicit Congress.
