It's your money, it's your country
"The nations emergency rooms and hospitals are still, nearly seven years after Sept. 11, not prepared to deal with the “surge” of patients that could be caused by a terror attack, according to a House oversight committee." I'm not surprised that it's all Bush's fault, especially if "the Bush administration is able to take hundreds of millions in Medicaid funding from public and teaching hospitals." (National Terror Report and ABC News)
If an truly thorough investigation were to be undertaken, I feel confident that this general statement that emergency rooms and hospitals are not prepared is a fraud, a head fake. I suggest that the majority of hospitals are fully prepared, or as prepared as any medical facility can be, for emergencies ... whether they are terrorist related, national disaster related, or accidents with mass casualties.
I have no doubt that federal funds hospitals have depended on in the past and may be taken away, will surely put a crimp in hospital budgets. I also suggest that many hospitals would be in much better shape if they didn't have so many non-paying customers. For many hospitals this means illegal aliens.
In some hospitals as much as two-thirds of operating costs are for uncompensated care of illegal immigrants. Those costs alone are estimated at more than one BILLION dollars per year.An estimated 3.5 million illegal immigrants receive their health care insurance through the taxpayer funded Medicaid program.
Do you think that illegal aliens should be permitted to receive taxpayer-funded health care through Medicaid?
In 2006 alone, the cost of providing social, medical, law enforcement, and educational services to illegal aliens from every level of government is estimated at an astounding $53 BILLION per year!
That's right: Without considering other national security and quality-of-life issues, local, state and federal government service to illegal immigrants are personally costing you thousands of dollars every year in taxes.
Some states have reported spending as much as $3.3 BILLION a year on higher education costs, higher law enforcement costs, and higher health care costs to provide direct services for illegal immigrants.

FYI: All three presidential candidates are courting Hispanics, including Republican John McCain.
Sen. John McCain said yesterday that Republicans have shed support among Hispanic voters because of the party’s get-tough approach to illegal immigration, but he predicted that his enforcement-then- legalization approach will rebuild those bridges.Using a Mexican holiday, Cinco de Mayo, as a launching point, Mr. McCain’s presidential campaign announced a Spanish-language Web site (www.johnmccain.com/ espanol), and said the senator from Arizona will speak to this year’s National Council of La Raza convention in San Diego in July to try to court Hispanic voters.
“I believe the majority of the Hispanics share our view that the border must be secured, and the border must be secured first. But they also want us to have an attitude, which I think most Americans do, that these are God’s children, and they must be taken care of, and the issue must be addressed in a humane and compassionate fashion,” Mr. McCain told reporters at an Arizona news conference yesterday.
