Ban Wi-Fi, some people are ... allergic???

Some people want Wi-Fi banned from public buildings because they are allergic to "certain types of electric fields, including wireless internet and cell phones."     That's what this article says.  I think these folks are nuts.  What, they want us to return to another era with only land-line phone and dial-up or cable internet?  Barbarians!!!   (hat tip hubby)

A group in Santa Fe says the city is discriminating against them because they say that they're allergic to the wireless Internet signal. And now they want Wi-Fi banned from public buildings.
Arthur Firstenberg says he is highly sensitive to certain types of electric fields, including wireless Internet and cell phones.
"I get chest pain and it doesn't go away right away," he said.
Firstenberg and dozens of other electro-sensitive people in Santa Fe claim that putting up Wi-Fi in public places is a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The city attorney is now checking to see if putting up Wi-Fi could be considered discrimination.
But City Councilor Ron Trujillo says the areas are already saturated with wireless Internet.
"It's not 1692, it's 2008. Santa Fe needs to embrace this technology, it's not going away," Trujillo said.
The city attorney hopes to have a legal recommendation by the end of the month.

INTERESTING COMMENT-
"Show me the Science"(Proof that wifi's dangerous)- HERE IT IS- WHERE'S YOURS??????????????????

No one who tries to defend WIFI ever seems to discuss the science behind it -
Instead, uninformed self-appointed experts spout 'Psychobabble' in place of science in an attempt to play down the ill effects of this dangerous technology. Hardly anyone understands how wifi even works, let alone why it is so harmful.

I have had independent tests to show that wifi sends my pulse rate to about 125 WHETHER I KNOW ITS THERE OR NOT. But the question is - ' Why? '
The high-level radiation is sent out in pulsating, quantized packets of energy, which is what you need for any 'Information-carrying' wave. This is potentially dangerous to the body, since it has both identifiable spacial and frequency properties,(due to having both wavelike and quantum properties) ie. the brain knows both what shape it has and how fast it is going. Thus, it does not adhere to the UNCERTAINTY PRINCIPLE. Natural radiation, eg from the Sun, does not have both of these properties.
The reason that WIFI IS SO MUCH MORE DANGEROUS THAN OTHER FORMS OF RADIATION is that the packets of radiation pulsate at approx 10 Hz, which interferes with BRAIN WAVES.
I wonder how many of those claiming this is safe even know what quantum mechanics is ????!!!!!!!!
THEY ARE CREATING AN ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH BOTH THEIR OWN AND THEIR FAMILY'S BRAINS COULD BE FRIED (if they havent been already), AND THEY ARE CULPABLE.
Unscientific psychobable has been used to explain away environmental illness for decades, and is a consequence of not having a SHRED of evidence to show that people are making up their symptoms.
It is the same scenario each time- Many people suffer, both knowingly and unknowingly, some die, and decades later the FACTS somehow emerge in a comprehensive way and measures are taken.
Lets consider the bigger picture, apart from the massive experiment we are carrying out on ourselves, our children and the planet in general-
1. IS THERE ANY SUBSTANCE KNOWN TO MANKIND THAT SOME PEOPLE DO NOT REACT TO, like nuts, for eg.
2. VIRTUALLY EVERYTHING WE DO IS HARMFUL TO US, BUT WE ACCEPT THAT- DRIVING, LEAD POLLUTION, SMOKING, DRINKING....
Maybe the pschobabblers should also explain away deaths in car accidents as being imagined. "I mean just because we all saw him/her being crushed by a car doesn't mean that they didn't just imagine their own death and die as a consequence"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd love to hear some one try to defend wifi and explain the problems people suffer from it in a scientific way. I just cant believe anyone buys their 'babble' at all.

This is ridiculous. Before anyone in Santa Fe makes accomodations for these lunatics I would hope they look at the science involved. To my knowledge there has never been any evidence of electromagnetic radiation in the radio wave spectrum ever affecting anyone other than by direct heating (microwave ovens and diathermy).

WiFi operates with a few milliwatts of power at best. Likewise cellphones operate at a few milliwatts.

Fire and police radios operate usually between 25 and 50 watts. They have been around much longer than cellphones and WiFi.

Broadcast radio and TV stations have been around since the 1930's and 40's. Some TV stations run over a million watts of power. We didn't hear of any of these ludicrous claims then.....only with the appearence of milliwatt powered WiFi and cellphones do we see this appear.

SHOW ME THE SCIENCE!

The same mentality that buys into this nonsense that also buys into hoaxes like man made global warming.

As for the sufferers of this mysterious illness, might I recommend a psychiatrist?

I can just about betcha the good ole boys at the ACLU will be in this oe before its over. Some people are just idiots.
