I can't make this stuff up -- Grease Bandidts
Grease bandits strike as biofuel demand rises -- As the price of this waste product and biodiesel ingredient has risen, so have thefts.
San Jose, Calif. - Mark Rosenzweig watched with suspicion as a tanker truck sidled up to a local Burger King's grease bin last month. The driver plunged a hose into the 300-gallon tub of used French-fry grease and slurped it into his tank.Mr. Rosenzweig called the police, patiently citing legal codes to convince them that, yes, grease theft is a crime. He should know. As a legitimate grease collector, he has his livelihood stolen four to five times a month these days.
In March, grease bandits in South Bend, Ind., broke bin locks to get to their oozy booty. One collector, Griffin Industries Inc., has two detectives working cases in Kentucky, Texas, Florida, Missouri, and against an entire grease gang in northern Arkansas.
Grease is a traded commodity like gold or pork bellies, and its price has tripled in the past two years – leading to increased theft. The reason: Grease can be used to make bio-diesel and has seen the same price spike as corn and other biofuel inputs. (more at Christian Science Monitor)
Ethiopia: A model of African food aid is now in trouble -- The government's food giveaway may undercut a successful cash aid program (CSM)
WHY??? Because the fraud called climate change is using food meant for humans and animals for expensive, dirty, fuels. The Al-Goreans are more worried about tropical insects than human life.
Now the Cyclone in Burma has killed 15,000 and still counting. It's a given that we (the United States) will be sending food, supplies, and probably money to help out. Everybody hates us, until they need something.
First lady Laura Bush said the U.S. government had rushed $250,000 to aid organizations operating in Burma. However, she said further aid could be delayed because Burma's government, one of the world's most isolationist military regimes, has not yet agreed to allow a U.S. disaster response team into the country.
Then we get titles like this: Oil at $120, Gas Tripping $4 -- Time for Plow Horses and Buggies, Even Toed Ungulates? Or as the Financial Times puts it, " ... camel demand on the Asian Sub-Continent is soaring ("Camel Demand Soars as Oil Price Makes Tractors Too Costly to Run," 05.04.08)."
Watch the Web for Climate Change Truths; Global Warming Could Be Over
A notable stories of recent months should have been the evidence pouring in from all sides to cast doubts on the idea that the world is inexorably heating up. The proponents of man-made global warming have become so rattled by how the forecasts of their computer models are being contradicted by the data that some are rushing to modify the thesis. So a German study, published by Nature last week, claimed that, while the world is definitely warming, it may cool down until 2015 “while natural variations in climate cancel out the increases caused by man-made greenhouse gas emissions”. [snip]
... a graph published last week on the Climate Audit website by Steve McIntyre.
Tracking satellite data for the tropical troposphere, it showed March temperatures plunging to one of their lowest points in 30 years. (more)
And so it goes !

We have world violence and famine ... caused by what? Crazies trying to 'save the planet', when Earth doesn't need saving.

Everything going up in price and no end in sight. I do believe there was a Simpson episode where Homer and Bart steal Grease from the school. We have been collecting Grease since the 1940's, it is used in ammo manufacture.

Debbie, I can't believe that grease is becoming an industry in its own right. With the food of the world rapidly disappearing because of climate change hysteria and bio-fuel stupidity, things are spiraling downhill fast.

I have never understood the "bio-fuel" craze. Using ethanol as the fuel additive will cut down on oil use, but it's not the best solution.
Why not switch to propane? It's not a petroleum product; it's distilled from pig manure (that makes it a bio fuel!), so it won't cut into human food suppies. And it can run an internal combustion engine.
Light industrial hi-lo forklifts use it; why not convert cars and small trucks, too?
Because the big oil companies want ethanol...

as my husband and i were discussing the events of the last week and i was telling him how EVERYTHING has gone up from soup to nutz - i mentioned to him that when they start regulating how much corn you may grow in your personal garden (much like they did tobacco) then perhaps people will see the gravity of this situation.
i just did a post on the cost of printer inkjet refills that's quite humorous in spit of it all.
