Oprah moved from Rev. Wright to ... the dark side ...

We all know that Oprah Winfrey was a member of Rev. Jeremiah Wright's Black Liberation Theology church, Trinity United Church of Christ, with some of Chicago's most influential thinkers and leaders, among them lawmakers, judges, and more. Her message boards are full of comments about Wright.

Associates of Oprah Winfrey tell Newsweek that she stopped attending the controversial Rev. Jeremiah Wright's Trinity United Church of Christ during the 1990s in part because of the tone of Wright's sermons.

According to two sources, Winfrey was never comfortable with the tone of Wright's more incendiary sermons, which she knew had the power to damage her standing as America's favorite daytime talk-show host. "Oprah is a businesswoman, first and foremost," (The Swamp)

We are told that visitors on a typical Sunday morning might see and hear flavors of Pentecostal worship, prophetic preaching, political activism, self-empowerment and individual salvation and healing. The church brags about being "unashamedly black, unapologetically Christian", ... unashamedly black is correct, unapologetically Christian is questionable. I see what Wright preaches as a slap in the face to the God and Jesus Christ that I know from the Holy Bible.

Deep-Shift thinking; Word-Faith teaching; New Age teaching; New Spirituality; The Shift; Cosmic Humanism; Eastern mysticism; Emergent’ or ‘Emerging Church’ (ECM); What do all these have in common? Two things, moving away from orthodox Christianity and Oprah Winfrey. What they preach is a counterfeit social gospel.

Oprah may have left Rev. Jeremiah Wright's church, but what she turned toward is even worse. What better platform to preach Oprah's new heresy than her TV show, radio broadcasts, book promotions, magazine, TV network, and the internet? That's just what she's doing.

Oprah’s mass viewing audience has unwittingly (in some cases) received occult instruction from Marilyn Ferguson, Neale Donald Walsh, Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, John Bradshaw, Jack Canfield, Shirley MacLaine, Yanla Vanzant, Gary Zukav, Jerry and Esther Hicks, John Edward, Rhonda Byrne, and Eckhart Tolle. For one thing, you can create your own reality. “The message is the same,” says Russ Wise, “there is a power, an energy, a force within you that opens your understanding to your true self – your God-Self, your innate Divinity. Wise continues:

“In her book that launched her popularity on the Oprah Winfrey Show in 1992 she [Williamson] made this observation, ‘If you go deeply enough into your mind, and deeply enough into mine, we have the same mind. The concept of a divine, or “Christ” mind, is the idea that, at our core, we are not just identical, but actually the same being. “There is only one begotten Son” doesn’t mean that someone else was it, and we’re not. It means we’re all it. There’s only one of us here.’ Williamson then makes the analogy that we cannot separate ourselves from God no more than the wave can separate itself from the ocean.” [6]

Former New Ager and author Ray Yungen laments, “This is the decision the world is now facing—is God a personal being or is God the Universe and all that it entails?” [7] In other words, is there a transcendent God who lives outside His creation, or are we all gods as New Agers believe? [snip]

Did you get that? Anyone who holds to absolute truth, as taught in the Holy Bible, “are a dangerous thing in religions” and “reflects a collective mental illness.” Influential occultists are out to transform dimwitted Christians into the likeness of Satan! [snip]

Remember the good old days when Christians heard the authentic Gospel of Jesus Christ preached from the pulpit instead of the postmodern watered-down version? ... What is disgraceful is that many pastors are becoming Life Coaches instead of teachers of the Word. We’re told, “Do your best and you’ll get into heaven.” This is so not true! In Mat. 7:14 Jesus said, “But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” [snip]

Granted, Scripture twisting is nothing new. Even the Apostle Paul had to deal with false-teachers who were plunging the early Church into heresy. In Galatians 1:8 he gave this stern warning to God’s people:

Postmodernism rears its ugly head in politics and the media, our education system, and not surprisingly, the "Church."

Syncretism and interfaithing have led to the watering down of Christian doctrines in many churches. Is it any wonder that many of those raised in "Christian" homes (nominal Christians) are searching for something more? Hence, the attraction to New Ageism and even Islam.

In my view, Obama and Wright have set back race relations here in the United States. Whites and blacks are more suspicious of each other now. Sad, sad.

Today I read that McCain has attached himself to another pastor, John Hagee. Hagee has some controversial views, but not like Wright. The problem here is that many people are going to lump Hagee in with Wright due to the time proximity. This is going to put a blot on true Christians and tie them in with the counterfeit more than ever before.
I am afraid that a few (perhaps many) are going to fall off the wagon once the wagon gets rocking a bit. Those who are easily led are going to confuse Wright wtih the real thing.

Mystical Time Traveler: Good point, poor judgment on Oprah's part concerning Dr. Phil. It's all about ratings I guess. Seems to me her audience would be a little smarter though. I never watch Oprah.

The good thing for Oprah and the New Age stuff is, there's always a new prophet each month or two. So she always has somebody new to promote.
