Hamas and Fatah kill each other, while Arab nations look on
"Hamas forces in Gaza are holding 160 supporters of the rival Fatah movement, after an explosion killed six people. Those being held are suspected of involvement in the blast. ... one of three in Gaza in a period of 24 hours, which killed five Hamas militants and a young girl." (MalaysiaNews) Hamas and Fatah can't even get along, so I'm wondering how Barack Obama will spread his 'can't we all just get along' mantra in that region:
The Hamas government is one of the only employers in Gaza with a growing payroll, while poverty is pushing people into the Hamas Militia. One might argue whether this is by design, but that's another story. One might also argue that the fault is equally divided between Hamas and the Palestinian people themselves, for various reasons. One might also ask where all the international money given to this group has gone? Weapons perhaps???
This emerges from a new UN report showing that more than an unprecedented 52 per cent of Gaza households have now plunged below the internationally-designated poverty line despite continued humanitarian assistance, while unemployment has reached 45 per cent for the first time. (continue reading)
Inquiring minds might also ask about all that Arab money that has been pledged to the suffering brothers and sisters? Check this out:
In 2002, when oil prices were hovering around $21 a barrel, nearly two dozen Arab nations joined to pledge yearly contributions of $660 million to support the Palestinian Authority's annual budget. Now, even with oil prices more than six times higher and the Palestinian Authority bordering on financial ruin, only a handful of Arab countries are sending even a small portion of the money they promised, according to data examined by The Washington Post.
Out of 22 Arab nations that made pledges, only three -- Algeria, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates -- have contributed funds this year, while oil-rich countries such as Libya, Kuwait and Qatar have sent nothing and still owe the Palestinian government more than $700 million in past-due pledges.
The Palestinian Authority uses the contributions to help pay salaries for civil servants, health-care specialists and other workers in the Palestinian territories. European governments, the World Bank and the United States have provided more than three times as much money as Arab countries this year to keep the government afloat, but officials said the Europeans and the World Bank have virtually depleted their resources, leaving a funding gap of about $800 million for the rest of 2008. (continue reading)
What would happen if the United States and European governments withheld all that money --three times as much money as Arab countries--??? So who is it that seems to care more for the plight of the Palestinian people??? That's right, the evil Christians and Jews in Western democratic nations.
Imagine that!

I agree that this money is used for terrorist activities. Also checking out the Swiss bank accounts is a good idea.
Yes, the Palestinians are the most supported, so I have heard, and yet ... look what they have (or have not)done with all that support. Nothing good.

Bravo! Some of that money in U.S. tax dollars given to the Palestinian Authority also serves to glorify terrorism in official PA media. As well as anti-America/anti-Israel incitement. They only want a Palestinian state as part of the "Phased Plan." Their ultimate goal is the destruction of Israel and a jihadist state.

The little coup that Hamas pulled, separating Fatah and Hamas authorities, surely caused a rift among their Arab brothers. Excellent link to their funding, Debbie.
The U.S. justifies monies to Palestine because it keeps the people from starving. What a joke. We know none of the money get to the people and Hamas will only let them starve a little bit, because they need the poor hungry masses.

I read/heard somewhere that the Palestinians are one of the most aid supported people on the planet.
"What would happen if the United States and European governments withheld all that money...."
The Palestinians might just wake up to themselves.

The Arabs have never been hot for their various "tribes" in the first place. No surprises here ;)

Great Article.
Where does the money go? Has anyone checked out the Swiss Bank Accounts of the Hamas leaders? Or the fact that those rockets from Iran aren't for free. Or the bullets they fire into the air don't grow on trees.
The Palestinians are corrupt beyond measure. I was reading an 18th Century traveler who wrote: "Muslims are the laziest people I have ever met. They don't care about work. Only prayer and food."
Says a lot about the "World's Welfare Queens".
