I’m a McCain Man Now!

I guess that it should come as no surprise to anyone that I would’ve voted for John McCain regardless of who he selected as his running mate – the alternative choice is too horrible, in my opinion, to consider – but now that he’s chosen Governor Palin I can only share in the excitement that has enveloped the Republican Party and my conservative friends. It has become, as many of my friends have told me, no longer merely a matter of voting against Barack Obama. They are now voting specifically for Senator McCain. Some have come aboard since his ‘debate’ at Saddleback. Most, however, since his selection of Governor Sarah “Barracuda” Palin.
Rarely are Republican politics worthy of such excitement. It is the Democrats who immerse themselves within the spectacle of, well, spectacle. It’s almost as if they can’t speak without attributing greatness and majesty to mediocrity. The Republicans, however, simply entrust that the American people will analyze the facts and come to a sound judgment as to whom to vote for. Obviously, in our star-studded and popular culture, this is about as exciting as watching a poker match on cable.
It’s not the material that the Republicans have to work with – faith, family, and country are more than enough to swell the soul of even the most recalcitrant citizen. Add to this the infinite power of individual opportunity and responsibility and you have all the ingredients for patriotic fervor. It’s just that the normally prim and proper Republicans have all of the trademark personalities that were once lamented by the likes of John Lennon: “You should’ve seen them kickin’ Edgar Allen Poe…” Not anymore.
When Senator McCain – whom Sylvester Stallone rightfully called the real Rambo – choose Ms. Palin to serve as his running mate, the entire conservative party lit up with expectation. Here was a new dynamic duo destined by the political powers that be to revamp Washington and send a message to the world that there wasn’t anything inherently wrong with America – we just want to continue to improve. It’s a combination that couldn’t be so powerfully orchestrated even by the best creative minds in Hollywood.
Could a mere screenwriter envision the pairing of a maverick ex-P.O.W. with a woman who likes to hunt moose? Usually, we would find something of a John Rambo paired with a Britney Spears. Comic action followed immediately by comic fluff. Never, ever do we find someone who bested the worst that communism had to offer scripted with someone who bests the worst that nature has to offer. Until now.
Senator John McCain’s rise from the literal hellholes of Vietnam to his party’s nomination for President is legendary. There are few alive today who can challenge his achievement. Soon, too, the rise of Governor Sarah Palin from the “last frontier” to her party’s nod for Vice President will become legend for she encompasses that one all-too-rare trait of modern Americana – everything. This former-model, journalist, businesswoman, hunter, fisherman, champion shooter and racer, mayor, devoted wife and mother, governor, and now VP candidate simply cannot be scripted by any earthly individual. Otherwise, the more liberal elements of the Democratic Party would not be so scared of her.
The Democrats vehemently fear this woman; fear her tremendously as exhibited by their horrific and slanderous attacks upon her and her family. They aren’t simply afraid of women – they effectively ignored Senator Hillary Clinton who came rather darn close to winning her party’s nomination – they just fear Ms. Palin. Why? Because Governor Palin is unshakably conservative and radically independent. Because she represents the absolute power of faith, family, and freedom nestled within the fabric of infinite human compassion, dignity, and spirit. She is an enigma to those who serve Washington.
A few short months ago, the political female of merit was Hillary Clinton herself – heir apparent to the Clinton 1990’s. Two years ago, it was Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi who reigned supreme as America’s first Speaker of the House before her house came tumbling down around her in a heap of liberal ineptitude. Even just last week, it was Senator Obama’s wife who was paraded out as the opening act for her husband’s coronation during the Democratic Party’s version of Stadium Rock. Despite these achievements, Ms. Palin’s emergence onto the world stage shattered these ‘legends.’
None of the foregoing Democrats had ever held executive office within the political arena. None had ever been picked to run for Vice President of the United States. While Hillary Clinton has preached about her support for the ‘people’ – Governor Palin had proven it with an eighty-percent approval rate. While Congresswoman Pelosi chairs with a gavel, Ms. Palin shares with the largest state in the Union. While Ms. Obama exults in her championing of deprived backgrounds, Governor Palin championed an environment even more “grizzly” than that of Washington itself.
In spite of Governor Palin’s legendary achievements, however, there is one accomplishment that I hold in far more esteem – John McCain’s selection of this remarkable woman as his running mate. It is for this simple reason that I am glad that I wasn’t one of those naysayers who abandoned the GOP just because he wasn’t “conservative” enough. Like in life, sometimes playing things “too conservatively” breeds failure. With risk goes reward and I know of few truly successful people who dwell within the status quo. In this regard, I am glad that Senator McCain cannot be defined so restrictively. My ticket consists of a fellow Navy man who defied the Vietnamese, the media, and even his very own party. Now just think, it’s his backup that terrifies the hell out of the liberals. God, I just love this country… ;o)

The following is from Phyllis Chesler, "When Obama vs. McCain is an Agonizing Decision". I respect Ms. Chesler. Before she became a member of Pajamas Media, I posted her articles for her in full here at Right Truth. Having said that, in my opinion, there is NOTHING agonizing about who to vote for in this election.
The decision about whom to vote for in the race for President and Vice-President is a wrenching one for many Americans. It is for me.
I agree with Joe Lieberman that this is neither an ordinary election nor an ordinary historical moment. (Yes, he also said that John McCain is no ordinary candidate.) I also agreed with Fred Thompson who said that, unlike their opposition, McCain and the Republicans believe that we live in the best country in the world, one worth defending with honor (as opposed to viewing America as the worst country in the world and making speeches abroad to please America’s enemies). In addition, I agree with Thompson that character, judgment, courage, humility, a sense of duty, wisdom and honor are traits that a war-time President requires. (continue reading)

"shallow points and not the real issues"
Boy I couldn't agree more with Man in the Arena! The above statement describes Barry Obama hands down.
Give me some good solid conservative, Sarah Palin, pro God, pro life, pro gun, pro military, low tax, small government philosophy anytime!

You used words like "excitement" "spectacle" etc. I don't care much about your party affiliation but it's just a shame when voters cling to shallow points and not the real issues. It really weakens what democracy is about i.e. well informed voters who vote on relevant information.

I started ambivalent about McCain, but knew there was no Democrap worthy of my vote. Now, McCain has gone and gotten the equivalent of Janine Turner of Northern Exposure as his running mate.
I know phrasing it that way will drive regressives nuts, but bottom line: I will support McCain/Palin in '08. I care too much about this country to sell it out to socialists who'll set us up for another Munich fiasco with the Islamofascists. And that's exactly what Oblahblah and Obiden will do.

"McCain's VP pick sure made it easier for me to pull the lever for him."
...and I can certainly agree with that statement as well. I watched last night's RNC and plan on watching to hear what Palin has to say.
I do like his choice for Palin as VP, however, and yes, it swayed me to really think about it - but until McCain changes his mind on illegal immigration and kicks all of them out of our country - until he drops support for the UN and his membership with the CFR - I cannot find myself voting for him.
HE must change before I vote for him. It's that simple, folks. McCain is a hardcore liberal.

Obama will DESTROY America and your reasoning is irrational and dangerous.
Actually, you've misread into my comment. While I wouldn't want Obama as president by a long shot, all I am saying is that if he does get elected in, it will teach the GOP a harsh lesson.
Not being irrational at all...but you've grossly underestimated and also misunderstood my position here.
I refuse to jump on the McCain bandwagon. I'm voting for Chuck Baldwin because he's not a panderer like McCain. You should remember to respect other's opinions in here before slamming them; especially before understanding what I was trying to say.

Steve,
I'm no fan of McCain, but the sad truth is that we cannot afford Barack Obama. In fact I literally do not believe the country will survive with him at the helm.
Iran will get a nuclear weapon. They will sell them to terrorists. Terrorists will use a few of them on us and then blackmail Obama in to having the country acquiesce to the will of radical islam. In short Barack does not have the good sense to defend this country.
In spite of McCain's shortcomings, he loves America and I believe will defend her at all costs.
McCain's VP pick sure made it easier for me to pull the lever for him.

I too was a strong Huckabee supporter during his presidential run and waiting for signs from Senator McCain to whether he would get my support. I happily say due to his performance at Saddleback and his choice of Governor Sarah Palin as his VP choice, I to am a McCain man!

sorry steve but by not voting for mccain you are helping increase the number of abortions and you could be hurting palin's chances of running eventually becoming president...obama pelosi reid is going to left even by socialist standards--there is a reason canadian doctors come to the US...healthcare in socialized canada is frustrating and not very healthy...the economy will REALLY tank...with big government programs that will make the ones we have now look efficent...and the wealthy will adjust by chaning their vacation plans...the average person who thought they would be better off because of health care and cheaper university for their kids is going to really pay...when an economy tanks...the ones who really suffer are the average joe's...not soros or rev wright...let's be honest it isn't that a president has unlimted powers like a prime minister would...but a republican can hold off the democratic congress and avoid the liberal supreme court appointments...you know that great line "if you aren't with me you are against me"....obama ayers wright soros etc etc want you to stay home

Steve I am truly saddened by your remarks. I saw them after I commented. To each his own, but that is really sad.
Obama will DESTROY America and your reasoning is irrational and dangerous.
Wow!

Good article. I was not for McCain - but Giuliani. I still wish Giuliani had been the pick for POTUS, but I must admit - McCain has redeemed himself and I can now reconcile my differences with him, but only for one reason in two words.
Sarah Palin

My convictions tell me I cannot vote for McCain because:
1. He supports the UN/CFR;
2. He's a member of the Tri-Lateral Commission;
3. He supports the motives of NAFTA and one-world government;
4. Backs the UN;
5. Will grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens, thus opening the attraction for more vermin to wander in.
Sorry - I'd rather see the GOP get kicked in the teeth with Obama actually winning the election - which will send a strong message to them never again to pick such a liberal candidate like John McCain.
