America's Secular Challenge - The Rise of a New National Religion
America's Secular Challenge - The Rise of a New National Religion, by Herbert London. This is the biggest little book I have ever read. In only 104 pages, for the price of $13.60, the author provides readers with facts, figures, resources, beyond compare and could not be more timely.
Secular humanism is not new and has been attacking true religion throughout history. By whatever name this vile enemy of God and Judaeo-Christian religious tradition chooses to hide -- multiculturalism, cultural relativism, materialism, tolerance, political correctness -- I do not believe Americans really want religion excluded from public life. Despite the secular sentiments of many members of the intellectual and cultural elite, most Americans profess belief in God.
The fight for America's freedom and safety depends on certain undeniable and unchanging beliefs and foundations. Those who follow the secular religion do not believe this and that is their error.
Gay-rights activism on this point only goes to demonstrate the true modus operandi of modern interest-group politics: We want what we want, and with enough pressure, we'll get it sooner rather than later. The same goes for advocates of late-term or partial birth abortion. (pg 16)
A secularist's "moral standards," Hitchcock wrote, "tend to be merely those commonly accepted by the society in which he lives, and he believes that everything changes, so that there are no enduring or permanent values." (page 31)
This political religion pushed by militant secularists puts faith in human institutions rather than in individual humans, and leads to a mistaken conviction that the government is a more competent and just distributor than the "invisible hand" of the free market.
Sound familiar? Look at the economic situation in the United States today and how the elite secular members of congress have chosen to act. The President Elect Barack Obama won the election by promising redistribution of wealth. Voters looked to Obama to provide for their needs and wants. Private businesses are failing because they ran those businesses poorly, but congress wants to take from you and give to them.
In California marriage between same sex couples was voted down by the people, but gays refuse to accept the will of the majority. They believe, as stated in America's Secular Challenge, "We want what we want, and with enough pressure, we'll get it sooner rather than later."
You can do your part by sharing America's Secular Challenge by Herbert London. Do your country a favor and buy this big little book, give it as a gift to friends and family. What better time to arm yourself for the battle than Christmas?

In 1892, after 10 years of studying all the documents available--ALL OF THEM, the Supreme Court of the United States came to this conclusion: This is a Christian Nation. They were closer to the inception than any of us. If you wish to argue wether or not this is a Christian Nation, I strongly suggest you do the same research. Or would that be asking to much? Don't want to fill that emotional head of yours with facts? Hmm...

Brain Smith: You stated: "What's so hard to understand about wanting a secular government in order that we can practice our sacred religious beliefs without the interference of the Government?"
Secular governments DO NOT protect our natural Rights to freedom. They protect their WILL TO POWER over others. All you have to do is LOOK to see what our secular gov't is doing to shut down freedom of religion and speech!
Congress shall MAKE NO LAW abridging free speech which includes freedom to practice one's faith and the choice to associate with those we want to associate.
Have you heard of hate crimes that try to discover the intent of one's thoughts on a matter?
Have you heard of physician's boards FORCING pharmacists to dispense birth control even though it's against the pharmacist's faith?
Have you heard about the teaching of the homosexual lifestyle to kindergartners and parents being arrested and going to trial because they pulled their kids out of public schools? Check out MASS Resistance in MA.
Have you heard of forcing kids to done Islamic garb while suspending students who draw pictures of symbols representing their Christian faith?
How about those who are protesting outside of abortion clinincs having their freakin' arms being broken as they are being hauled off by cops? There are videos out there that you can see proving that!
How about people being arrested and jailed for preaching the gospel on tax paid streets?
My very close friend was PRAYING on a tax paid street in front of an abortion clinic and she was charged under the federal RICO statute and was federally convicted and served time! For praying!
How about churches being raided and pastors being fined because they speak about political things in the pulpit? Read Political Sermons of the Founding Era 1730-1805
I could go on and on and on, but I won't. Look around! It's because the secular humanists have declared WAR on those who practice Christianity.
Secular Humanism is and has been practiced in states like the "former" Soviet Union, Vietnam, China; states in Central and South America and as a result of this so called religion-loving political system MILLIONS have been slaughtered or imprisoned for their beliefs which
were contrary to secular humanism!
In fact, more people have been murdered under secular humanism than any true religion!
Side Note: Islam is not a religion but a political system that happens to have a religion.
SH is not a system that protects--it's a system that controls! And our current gov't is becoming scarier and scarier because of secular humanist congress critters!
G*d save our Republic!

Thank you for well written article with timely truths Secular humanism indeed functions as a powerful established religion, far more ruthless and intolerant than the faiths it denounces and seeks to replace. Body counts and statistics establish its sordid record. This book seems like a valuable aid and addition to my personal struggle against the dominance of this perfidious stealth religion

Secular humanism? A new religion of no religion, I reckon.
To the person that said there's no war on Christmas: try again, bubi. There's been a creeping cancer of a campaign against public displays of Christmas, one baby step at a time, for a couple of decades now. Just one more example: the "politically correct city of Golden, CO", has voted to ban public displays of Christmas, per se. Individual citizens can decorate their homes as they see fit, but on city-owned "public property", only a neutral "holiday" display is allowed, to prevent non-Christians (and others) from being "offended".
No war on Christmas? You're full of crap, fella. The war's been on for the past couple of decades; you're either ignorant or an agent of furthering the removal of Christmas, with your denial of the efforts.

I do not agree that this country is "judeo-christian" in origin. It is founded on the rights of man, espoused by civilizations that predate Christ himself.
You confuse confuse truth with opinion, or worse yet, belief. We suffer too much from that in our nation, and as a result we discuss beliefs, who is "more right", who is "a true christian", and in the meantime, we squander freedom, ruin our standing in the world, enslave nations through our fiscal policies, and project might but not right.
If you want truth, you must first strip away the mythology and superstition that are the foundations of judeo-christian thought.

This is probably the silliest opinion piece I have ever read. What's so hard to understand about wanting a secular government in order that we can practice our sacred religious beliefs without the interference of the Government? What's so hard to understand about the fact that slavery was once considered a "moral institution" or that "manifest destiny" was considered a divine right. Woman were by traditional "unchanging values" not allowed to vote. Is the fact that slaves and women "demanded what they wanted when they wanted" a sign of some moral failing on their part.
No one has asked that you must keep your religion private. We are simply more aware today of the variety of religious experiences in this country then we have been in the past. No one is asking that you close your church and worship in your homes. Religion is a social and communal institution. We simply ask that our governmental officials do not impose their understanding of religious practice on us.
Jesus said to render unto Caesar what is Caesars. The Hebrew and Christian Bibles both refer to the God given role of government in our lives. Our President however has not run to be our priest, he has run to be our politician. He is essentially and administrator of what we have collectively determined the role of government to be. This does not effect your ability to have a pastor, a priest, or rabbi of your choosing. The government is not a religious institution nor will it be run like one.
PS. There is no war on Christmas. Visit any Costco, Taco Bell or private church property in the U.S. and you will quickly find this to be so. Private businesses and churches can demean the name of my blessed Lord freely, despite my personal belief that these expressions of faith blaspheme my God.

AZ:
We are talking about the foundations that this government and country were founded on, and those are Judaeo-Christian. You cannot argue that.
America was also founded on freedom of religion, there is no state religion and we do not want a state religion. Anyone can worship any religion, or not worship at all, it is there freedom.
However, the principles upon which the founding fathers depended are built on a firm foundation, one that cannot shift and change at the whims of any one group within the US.
This is speaking to truth. Truth does not change just as the scientific elements do not change, the formula for water does not change, what is moral and right (and wrong) should not change.

It is the notion of a "god", "God", or "True Religion" that is the greatest threat to human liberty. What frustrates me about the democratic party/"liberals" is it's stance on abortion. What I find repugnant about the republican party/"conservatives" is their view that somehow they know the "truth", and thier "God" founded this country.
This is country of laws and men founded by diests, not "christians". We have as much to fear from fundementalist christianity as we do from fundementalist islam. There isn't much diffrenece in the beliefs of James Dobson or Osama bin Laden, it's just a matter of tactics.
Religon is a creation of man to explain the complex. This is the most difficult and complex time mankind has faced, and we will not survive as a nation if we don't throw off the bonds of religous ignorance. I long for a country free from dogma, destructive labels and irrational discourse.

CKA in Red State USA:
I can't answer your first question, it baffles me.
I think there is a difference in people who say they believe that God exists, and those who BELIEVE in God, who have put their faith in God, who have regular prayer-time and who depend on God and the Bible as foundations for how they live their lives.

If Americans don't want secularism, then what explains the support for abortion?
And, respectfully, when Americans say the believe in God, I don't think many, maybe most, of them have a clue about what they've said.
But perhaps now with pretend Christian Obama and his regime, America will get exposed to secular humanism and moral relativism in a way that will turn the country from these ideologies.
Time and Obama's actions will tell.

There is a big difference between the struggle for civil rights by Blacks in the 60's and the Gay marriage movement. The first actually did take away basic human rights from a group of citizens based on the color of their skin. The latter wants special rights based on their sexuality. And that means more rights than others.

I think people will wake up in the coming years of the Obama administration or should i say 'rule'. They'll see how the minority of those on the left will lord of them on many issues from gay marriage, to abortion and free speech.
Whether we're ready on not, the fight is upon us.

Excellent review Debbie. I think back ten years ago and realize that most Americans were fairly unaware of the secular humanistic heresy that has been slowly creeping into our churches. I’ve seen in the last year a new awareness and that gives me hope. Mr. London has written that he wonders if Christendom will mobilize the spiritual strength to fight . . . That is the biggest question of all.
