I was thinking about all the money spent in politics, specifically in campaigns, and Chicago politics and Gov. Rod Blagojevich trying to sell Barack Obama's Senate seat... And I wondered what it would cost me, and like-minded individuals, to buy a politician that would truly represent our best interests. Then my mind wandered a little further... The current system is obviously not working. Rather than donate one more cent to the Republican National Committee, wouldn't it be easier to simply find a truly Conservative person and support them directly?
In the 2008 presidential election, the candidates raised (and probably spent) over $1 billion dollars. That is huge. The sad fact is an honest, Conservative person cannot get elected in the United States of America without lots of money. In the 2000 and 2004 elections the Republicans did a great job, they had excellent workers from the smallest local government elections all the way up.
What happened in 2008? Somehow we were stuck with the biggest, whitest, oldest RHINO the liberal media could find. Conservatives did not WANT John McCain as their candidate, or as their president, and there was no excitement, no groundswell from the bottom up. Also, the donations were down because who wants to throw good money after a bad candidate? Only when Sarah Palin stepped up did the excitement, volunteers, and donations begin to increase. But alas, it was too little, too late. This cannot happen again.
We cannot allow the media, the left, the RINOS in the party, or anyone else... to choose our candidates. So, I'm putting out the want ad now, checking the applicants, and choosing very carefully. As 2008 closes (good riddance politically), and 2009 is born, I am cautiously optimistic.

I'd vote for the Mystical Time Traveler. For a small fee, of course!
Nice thought, Debbie. It shows just how corroded the system has become.

Great post, Debbie. It was a rough year for the GOP. I'm confident, however, that the Dems will overreach. I also think 2009 will bring good news on the economy. Republicans can start acting right now about the part of fiscal and moral responsibility and of course strength in international affairs.
Have a great new years!

It is a shame that there are very few people that can apply for that position.
I'd do it, but who'd vote for me?
