Late-term abortionist killed (UPDATED)

Dr. George Tiller, 67 year old Wichita doctor who performed abortions since 1970 including late-term abortions, was shot to death today at his church, Sunday, May 31, 2009.   The police have some leads they are following, but the shooter is not known at this time.  

Tiller's website advertises  LATE ABORTION CARE, ELECTIVE AND THERAPEUTIC LATE ABORTION CARE, FETAL ANOMALY.  Gateway Pundit reports: 

Police were looking for a blue Ford Taurus with a K-State vanity plate, license number 225 BAB. Police described him as a white male in his 50's or 60's, 6'1," 220 lbs, wearing a white shirt and dark pants.  The car is reportedly registered out of Merriam, Kansas a suburb just to the southeast of Kansas City, Kan.

UPDATE:  Wichita Deputy Police Chief Tom Stolz said  the gunman fled, but a 51-year-old suspect was arrested some 170 miles away in suburban Kansas City three hours after the shooting:

The suspect's name was not released; police had been looking for a gunman who fled in a car registered in the Kansas City suburb of Merriam.

Stolz said the man was being brought back to Wichita, where he would likely be charged Monday with one count of murder and two of aggravated assault. Stolz said the gunman threatened two people who tried to stop him.  (Philly.com)

Matthew Yglesias makes an important point about today’s murder of Dr. George Tiller — one of only two health care providers who still perform clinic-based late-term abortions:

Random murder of civilians in order to coerce political concessions doesn’t have a great track-record. But direct action terrorist violence against abortion providers has, I think, proven to be a fairly successful tactic. Every time you murder a doctor, you create a disincentive for other medical professionals to provide these services. What’s more, you create a need for additional security at facilities around the country. In addition, the anti-abortion protestors who frequently gather near clinics are made to seem much more intimidating by the fact that the occurrence of these sorts of acts of violence.

In general, I think people tend to overestimate the efficacy of violence as a political tactic. But in this particular case, I think people tend to understate it.

NO, THIS IS NOT AN EXPRESSION OF 'PRO-LIFE', NEVER HAS BEEN, NEVER WILL BE.  This is some nut criminal.  True pro-life proponents would not kill anyone in cold blood.  That is a crime.  But you can see by articles like the above, that Tiller the Baby Killer will now probably become a Liberal martyr.  From Malignant Liberal Idocy:

...  there is no confirmation of a motive. It is safe to assume two things. First, someone has likely decided to take matters into his or her hands to spare future innocent lives. Second, this will give the left a tangible event to which they can hitch their faux moral indignation.

  ...  The pro-life community (a.k.a. decent human beings) must now expect an onslaught of hateful attacks and accusations from the type of person that has no problem with a baby being partially delivered, his skull punctured, and his brain sucked out of his cranial cavity.

Given the current political landscape and the numbness of the nation as evidenced by the election of the most radically pro-abortion candidate in history to the office of President, there is little doubt that the Axis of Abortion and their willing accomplices will be able to make something of a martyr out of this horrid excuse for a doctor.

Here's the story: 

 ...   In 1993, he was shot in both arms by an abortion opponent but recovered.

He had also been the subject of many efforts at prosecution, including a citizen-initiated grand jury investigation. In the latest such effort, in March, Dr. Tiller was acquitted of charges that he had performed late-term abortions that violated state law.

The shooting occurred at around 10 a.m. (Central time) at Reformation Lutheran Church on the city’s East Side, Dr. Tiller’s regular church.

Wichita police said that the shots were fired from a handgun in the church lobby during the morning service.  (New York Times)

What say you?

The anti-abortion group Operation Rescue, which has led numerous demonstrations at Tiller's clinic, condemned the shooting as a "cowardly act.", as did Kansans for Life, Priests for Life,  Kansas NOW, Phill Klein, Randall Terry, NARAL Pro-Choice America, and Christian Defense League.

UPDATE II:  Concerning Operation Rescue, you might be interested in reading this post, NO MERCY, at the Huffington Post.  I'm not familiar with Operation Rescue, I am against abortion and specifically late-term abortion, I believe in peaceful protest.  Just read NO MERCY.  **END UPDATE II**

The sensation of deceleration brought Muhammad back to reality, the reality of his purpose within the ancient capital. Moscow figured heavily in his purpose, but the culture remained as far removed from his own that for the first time in years the tall Arab felt uneasiness filter into his conscious mind.

After all, Moscow – then the head of the powerhouse Soviet empire – had brutally murdered thousands of the faithful during its invasion of Afghanistan. He had fought tooth and nail against the invaders and now he was arriving aboard a train into the very city whose leaders tried to neutralize Islam’s growth.

What tempered his hatred, however, was the fact that this was now the Russian Federation, not the evil communist aggressor. Add to this reality the infusion of many of his followers and allied conspirators and Muhammad realized that those currently occupying the power elite in Moscow were now more friend than enemy.

Regardless, it was the fact that Russia was neither the United States nor a friend of the Great Satan that squashed his hostility for the time being. Moscow was simply a pawn in his quest to destroy the West. Nothing more.

The Arab gazed out through the filthy, opaque window as the train continued to slow into the station and momentarily spied the vast onion-shaped domes in the distance. For the briefest of thoughts, he considered that they all might be mosques beckoning him and his followers into service for Allah.

Muhammad had not arrived in Moscow to build mosques, however. He arrived to meet his associates who possessed test data from Pyongyang on the past detonation of a thirty-seven kiloton nuclear device in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. It was a start, but Muhammad knew that thirty-seven kilotons of explosion would not completely destroy a city as vast as New York and that was his ultimate objective.

Americans had a nasty habit of accepting mere black eyes without consequence; Muhammad wanted to remove their limbs altogether. Now, a ten-megaton blast, the Arab knew, would destroy New York City beyond the Americans’ capacity for repair. Unfortunately, large yield devices did not grow upon atomic trees and transportation was the most pressing issue. Regardless, challenge offered opportunity and Muhammad was as enterprising as anyone was.

He knew through his contacts in Riyadh that the Saudis were working diligently to acquire the old U.S. submarine tender Samuel Maxwell McCaide and planned to dock the vessel at a new amusement park they were building in New York. According to their plans, the vessel was to be towed to Russia for economical restoration and then brought back to America to serve as a floating museum and youth training platform.

This journey, along with the capacity of the vessel to mate with others while at sea gave the tall Arab a moment of inspiration. Out at sea, far from the prying eyes of U.S. intelligence agencies, the restored McCaide could rendezvous with a specially constructed North Korean submarine and accept the components for the thermonuclear device – themselves brought over from Russia’s Asian territories. While in transit to the United States, the device could be positioned within a monstrous shield device that could minimize radiation leakage while not restricting the massive blast itself.

According to his new diabolical scheme, the vessel would never have the opportunity for mooring within New York harbor. No, the vessel would assuredly attract a great deal of attention as it arrived to partake of the amusement park’s grand opening and, during the day, when New York was packed to its capacity, the bomb would be detonated even before the final mooring lines were secured.

Muhammad allowed a brief smile as his thoughts of a vaporized New York City morphed into scenes of a dislocated Russian railway station. The tiny structure opening up before him seemed to contradict the crowded target city thousands of miles away or even the prospects of the large Russian metropolitan center that he had just entered.

The Arab wanted something else beyond the destruction of America’s largest city. Muhammad wanted revenge; a chance to eliminate another vicious sore upon his faithful ambitions. Muhammad wanted to take out Israel as well. Perhaps not the entire country, but a significant chunk of the Jewish State to coincide with the diversion away from any support from its Greater Satan ally.

This is why Muhammad was intrigued by the thirty-seven kiloton North Korean test; a small device that had been developed with the assistance of purloined data from the American BULLION test conducted back in June, 1990. Russian scientists sympathetic to the Chechnyan cause had further miniaturized the BULLION device from the American’s OPERATION AQUEDUCT series of tests such that the new design would be suitable to unleash upon unsuspecting Jerusalem.

Rising to his feet as he saw other passengers begin to disembark from the train, the Eastern-suited Arab began to mentally visualize his grandiose plan in far greater detail. He would vaporize America’s largest city, killing millions of infidels in the process. The United States would be brought to its knees in a manner that no previous terrorist strike could have ever imagined.

Simultaneous with this nuclear Trojan horse, the Sorcerer would detonate a man-portable device in Jerusalem to kill as many Jews, Christians, and Palestinians as he could. The Israelis would blame the Muslims, the Muslims would blame the Israelis, and the Christians, as always, would blame technology. The dual strike against both the prominent and the follower Satans would create bedlam in Western political circles.

Against whom would the United States retaliate? Muhammad’s followers occupied nearly every nation on the planet and America would rather perish than confront the oil-rich Saudi king. The Israelis would be in far worse shape. Nearly every Arab nation in the Middle East waited for just such an opportunity to attack Israel while the tiny country bled. Their ally America would be on the ropes, their citizens mutilated beyond horror, their struggling economy already sacrificed for political gain, and the only option of destroying the Sorcerer’s clan rest with the impossible notion of attacking every single nation on the planet.

Muhammad calmly exited his compartment and walked confidently towards the front of the train, leaving his fellow passengers to casually gaze upon the tall, smiling Arab dressed comfortably within their own attire. Death strode amongst them and yet they did not care.

This paper presents the first-ever comprehensive ranking of the American states on their public policies affecting individual freedoms in the economic, social, and personal spheres. We develop and justify our ratings and aggregation procedure on explicitly normative criteria, defining individual freedom as the ability to dispose of one’s own life, liberty, and justly acquired property however one sees fit, so long as one does not coercively infringe on another individual’s ability to do the same.

This study improves on prior attempts to score economic freedom for American states in three primary ways: (1) it includes measures of social and personal freedoms such as peaceable citizens’ rights to educate their own children, own and carry firearms, and be free from unreasonable search and seizure; (2) it includes far more variables, even on economic policies alone, than prior studies, and there are no missing data on any variable; and (3) it uses new, more accurate measurements of key variables, particularly state fiscal policies.

We find that the freest states in the country are New Hampshire, Colorado, and South Dakota, which together achieve a virtual tie for first place. All three states feature low taxes and government spending and middling levels of regulation and paternalism. New York is the least free by a considerable margin, followed by New Jersey, Rhode Island, California, and Maryland. On personal freedom alone, Alaska is the clear winner, while Maryland brings up the rear. As for freedom in the different regions of the country, the Mountain and West North Central regions are the freest overall while the Middle Atlantic lags far behind on both economic and personal freedom. Regression analysis demonstrates that states enjoying more economic and personal freedom tend to attract substantially higher rates of internal net migration.

The data used to create the rankings are publicly available online at www.statepolicyindex.com, and we invite others to adopt their own weights to see how the overall state freedom rankings change.

Note the locations on the map above of free vs not free states, which should remind us all that should states want to break away from this new socialist administration, it would be very difficult to form a new union with like-minded states and have any continuity of borders.  Just a thought.

We are engaged in a war.

It is a very old war - - a war that began when the Prophet Muhammad delivered these final instructions to his followers.: “Know that every Muslim is a Muslim’s brother, and that the Muslims are brethren; fighting between them should be avoided, and the blood shed in pagan times should not be avenged; Muslims should fight all other men until they say, ‘There is no god but Allah.’

By 635, three years after the Prophet’s death, the Muslim horde had invaded the Byzantine Empire and conquered Damascus, the city where St. Paul was headed when he received a blinding vision of the Resurrected Christ. Antioch, the ancient Greek city where the followers of Christ were first called Christians, fell next. In 636, the Muslims conquered the Christian city of Jerusalem. The caliph Umar stood in triumph over the site of Solomon’s Temple, where the Prophet Muhammad, according to Islamic tradition, once ascended into Paradise.

By 642, the Muslims had swept through the Fertile Crescent, including Syria and Persia (modern day Iraq), slaughtered the Egyptian armies, and spread throughout North Africa. Over 250 Christian churches were destroyed in Egypt. The blood-lust of the Muslims remained unabated even when they encountered little or no resistance.

The conquered Christians and Jews became reduced to the status of dhimmitude. As dhimmis, Christians and Jews were required the pay the obligatory jizyah - - suppression tax - - which was often so exacting that many converted to Islam rather than pay it. An average day in America

Just another average day in the new Barack Obama era here in the United States of America.  Rather than asking, "do you know where your children are?", I'll ask, "do you know what your government is doing and do you know how this affects the world and our future?"  

San Diego County Going After Home Bible Study, via The Holy Coast:

Where's the ACLU on this one? A local pastor and his wife claim they were interrogated by a San Diego County official, who then threatened them with escalating fines if they continued to hold bible studies in their home, 10News reported.

Attorney Dean Broyles of The Western Center For Law & Policy was shocked with what happened to the pastor and his wife.

Broyles said, "The county asked, 'Do you have a regular meeting in your home?' She said, 'Yes.' 'Do you say amen?' 'Yes.' 'Do you pray?' 'Yes.' 'Do you say praise the Lord?' 'Yes.'"

The county employee notified the couple that the small bible study, with an average of 15 people attending, was in violation of county regulations, according to Broyles.

Broyles said a few days later the couple received a written warning that listed "unlawful use of land" and told them to "stop religious assembly or apply for a major use permit" -- a process that could cost tens of thousands of dollars.  (continue)

A federal judge in Michigan has declined to dismiss an ex-Marine's lawsuit that insurance giant AIG is using tax dollars to promote Islamic Sharia law and charities that may be funneling money to terrorist organizations.

Just when you thought the government's massive bailout of AIG couldn't get more complicated or controversial.

The facts of the case "raise a question of whether the government's involvement with AIG has created the effect of promoting religion and sufficiently raise Plaintiff's claim beyond the speculative level," U.S. Dist. Judge Lawrence P. Zatkoff ruled.  (Islam in Action)

Muslim charity, a/k/a terrorist charity,  members get 65 years in prison.  Good.

AFP - Two leaders of what was once the largest Muslim charity in the United States were sentenced to 65 years in jail Wednesday for supporting Palestinian militants.

The Texas-based Holy Land Foundation and five of its leaders were convicted late last year of funneling more than 12 million dollars to Hamas in the largest terror financing case in US history.  (continue reading)

Israeli intel: Venezuela ferried weapons to Syria, providing uranium to Iran

Strategic Weapons:   Iran recently test fired a two stage, solid fuel ballistic missile, the Sejil II.

 This missile has a range of 2,000 kilometers, and can reach Israel. Iran already has dozens of liquid fuel missile with the same range, the Shahab 3. What makes the Sejil II more dangerous is the fact that it can be fired on short notice. The Shahab 3 takes several hours to get ready, as the liquid fuel must be pumped into the missile. Israeli spies and photo satellites can spot the Shahab 3s being fueled, allowing the Israeli anti-missile systems to be placed on a higher degree of readiness. This makes it more likely that the Iranian missiles would be intercepted.  (continue)

Moammar Gadhafi, Barack Obama and Uncle Charles Payne

We know that politicians use the media, visits to other nations, and just about anything they can  -- for political purposes.  Barack Obama's great uncle offered some blunt language as to why his nephew is visiting the memorial at the former Buchenwald concentration camp next week during his trip to Europe and the Middle East.  Gotta love his man.  Moammar Gadhafi writes in the Washington Times, "The Pakistan quagmire -- A tangled web of regional challenges".

“This is a trip that he chose, not because of me I'm sure, but for political reasons,” Charles Payne told the German magazine Spiegel. “Perhaps his visit also has something to do with improving his standing with (German Chancellor) Angela Merkel. She gave him a hard time during his campaign and also afterwards.” [snip]

Payne, 84, is no stranger to Americans: The Obama campaign used his WWII experiences last year to burnish the candidate’s all-American upbringing. But Obama made a gaffe when he said his great uncle liberated Auschwitz. In fact, Payne was part of the force that liberated Ohrdruf, a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp, in April 1945.

Payne told Spiegel that he was shocked to see his war experience, especially his "liberation" of a concentration camp, used in campaign commercials. He said he had never spoken with his nephew about the matter, nor did Obama ever express any interest in Payne's experience.

“I was quite surprised when the whole thing came up and Barack talked about my war experiences in Nazi Germany,” Payne said. “We had never talked about that before.”

Payne doesn’t know where Obama came up with the fictitious Auschwitz connection.

“He couldn't have gotten it from me since we had never talked about this particular episode in the war,” said Payne. “My sister and her husband were both great storytellers and sometimes made up the details to go along with it.  (continue at NewsMax)

I can’t resist a quick, however perfunctory, comment on Qadhafi’s op-ed in today’s Washington Times.

I have had the privilege to endure the Great Leader on repeated occasions, and count both the son and the daughter as political friends. The Great Leader’s op-ed is interesting on all counts. On top, it is interesting to note that a foreign leader addresses himself on the internal affairs of another country, in a major publication of a third country. A rare occurrence. Begging the question, Who is the target audience and what is the message? Truth be told, I am not clear on either.
Having direct dealings with him, I like to believe he wrote the piece himself. The op-ed reflects his type thinking, his type language, and syntax. It also manifestly has been translated from the Arabic original. By a Western publicist. There are a couple of terms, the Great Leader would not use.

Of interest: the Great Leader identifies all of us by religion, not by ethnic identity, nor national affiliation. Achtung, gentlemen, so much for the current war not being religious!

I must take exception to the Great Leader on one important assertion: he is wrong to claim that current U.S. policy aims to pit Pakistan and India against each other. To the contrary, it has been the essence of AMB Holbrooke’s brief on his first forays as recently appointed Special Envoy to reconcile the two, in advance of a common front against al-Qaeda. Something, against which, as a JAM Commander, I have strongly rallied. I like to think, with success for now. For reasons expanded upon, previously. We like to see India and Pakistan at war. And will do all necessary to help bring that about.

I like the sentence, “Mr. Bhutto, the founder of Pakistan’s nuclear program, was of course, hanged.” I appreciate the non-chalance of the “off course.”
I remember GEN Zia telling me the story: we will recall, GEN Zia had sacked Bhutto, somewhat grudgingly, as he owed his career to Bhutto. And for other reasons. Bhutto never signed the instrument of resignation. So, as in evidence by the photographs, GEN Zia sits next to the sacked Bhutto, Bhutto leaning back, Zia to the forefront of the chair, in that part always a sign of subordination by the underling, begging Bhutto to sign.

So Zia tells me: “I pleaded with him. I begged of him. Zulfiqar, sign. Please. He wouldn’t. I had to hang him. He left me no choice. What could I do.”
To wit, I was thinking, quietly, I can envision the hardship Sir. One of the better performances I have seen.

I am, on principle, opposed to hanging one’s leaders. One shoots one’s leaders, as the Mexicans did with Maximilian, one does not hang them, the way the Italians did with il Duce. Upside down to boot. Ungentlemanly.

A point I made in re Saddam. To little avail. Mookie wanted the thrill of seeing the gallow open, the feet wiggle, before the rope breaks the neck. An intoxicating two minutes, as the rope takes out the air, before the body stops wiggling about. To be somewhat compared to bunjee jumping from a bridge, the rope attached to one ankle. A complete adrenaline rush.

Which btw, reminds me of another valuable lesson learned in Iraq, the blindfolding is not for the benefit of the to be executed. You may rest assured, by the time he walks before the firing squad, he is beyond caring. The target in blind-folding is to spare the firing squad emotional distress. It being very hard on firing squads to fire while looking into he target’s eyes. One of the reasons, why execution style refers to the shooting in the neck, which I deem equally ungentlemanly. Shoot in the temple, I say, or between the eyes, while the target has the eyes open. Makes it very personal, I know. But a good execution, to have deterrent effect, must be personal. One will recall the Fuhrer’s approach to Lidice following the Heydrich assassination.

For historic reference one will recall that Himmler switched from firing squad to the chambers for the same reasons. Humane consideration of the executioner. Shooting targets by the hundreds was taking a toll on the SS, not otherwise known as the faint-hearted. Off course, you could also not have reached the numbers by firing squad they were going for. --ALI
