America’s Tripwire: the Coming Revolution in Rational Politics

    Every revolution has, at its heart, a tripwire that might seem inconsequential to the events that will ultimately transpire on its merits. No one could adequately understand, for instance, the death and destruction that resulted from the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. Nor would anyone believe that the protests currently expressed in Iran have anything to do with the failure of a single political candidate. Yet, each of the above events will forever be linked to the initiator regardless of the underlying stress on the respective culture that ultimately caused the crisis.

    America, in the midst of 2009, is riding atop another bubble of societal dissatisfaction, aided in no small part to the grandiose promises of an anointed opportunist. President Barack Obama’s ascendance from political obscurity had less to do with his promises of extraordinary change than the growing resentment of a society on the verge of chucking out its national leadership en masse. President Obama did not win, the ruling class merely lost.

    The United States has always been a boiling stew led by the froth of turmoil. The more that our national leadership becomes corrupt, the more the underlying recipe becomes putrid and indigestible. Like a hardening crust on an otherwise magnificent soufflé, our nation has unwittingly elected the worst possible government during a period of great economic expectation. With the likes of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and now, apparently, Al Franken at the helm, the pot is primed to boil over. Perhaps even detonated.

    As our culture of death, entitlement, government control, and rampant spending festers, the final spark for revolution may be quite unobservable to the untrained eye but it exists nevertheless. For the past one hundred years, Americans have quietly endured the erosion of personal liberties and economic success. We have endured these transgressions because natural evolution of our economy always kept pace with the overindulgence of our national leadership. Unfortunately, however, our present government has exceeded this equilibrium to unsustainable levels.

    With the ‘Guerrilla Government’ takeover of the banking, auto, energy, and, soon, heath industries, the average American will come to realize what large segments of the global population had already learned long ago: government programs invariably fail. It is the private individual who inspires evolution, not bureaucracy.

    What has kept America safe and secure for two hundred and thirty-odd years has been that we remain – and will continue to remain – an armed population. This silent undertow has propelled the United States as the world’s vanguard against tyranny and it is this reality that will keep the country safe and secure from those who have repeatedly overstepped their Constitutional boundaries. With the election of Barack Obama, this safeguard has been accelerating at a phenomenal rate as thousands of men and women assail their local gun shops to purchase firearms and ammunition in historical quantities.

    With 300+ million firearms already in America before President Obama’s election, it would not have taken a large change to drastically tip the balance beyond even Hitler-esque confiscation. The fear on the street is that President Obama understands that messing with firearm ownership would be political suicide so he will have to resort to taxing ammunition to effect his progressive anti-gun legislation. This too, however, can be considered political suicide for many of his votes came from otherwise gun-toting Democrats.

    Every significant culture has gone through both a civil war and suffered under the prospects of a tyranny. America had endured a bloody Civil War, but it had never experienced allegiance to a tyrant since its founding. We have fought them and most of us know to prefer freedom to government, but a direct tyranny is something that we have never witnessed while under our flag. Until now…

    With each takeover of a capital enterprise, those presently infesting our government take an oath of treason. With each new tax raised upon us citizens, their allegiance to George III of old is reaffirmed. Their desire is for absolute government control of our lives without due representation and their insistence upon taxing us into oblivion is merely the energy source for the coming revolution. It is not the blasting cap for change, however. That comes when President Obama and his dominant progressive legislation acts on imposing further gun laws upon a skeptical populace.

    Progressives understand this. They want this. They want to tip America into full-scale revolt. This is what treason is – destroying the very fabric of a society for personal gain. Nowhere is this more evident than through a brief rummage of history’s refuse pile. The progressives in Washington have convinced you that they need to spend trillions to jumpstart an otherwise cyclic economy. They have convinced you that businesses, corrupt as they are, are simply “too big to fail”. The more that the progressives find excuses for their extravagances, the more they will try to convince you that the “crisis” in question mandates another trillion or, at a minimum, another czar. Leave it to our government to equate itself with a failed monarchy.

    The Great Progressive Spin Machine, riding on the current of post-Clinton gun control defeats, is now salivating over the neighboring crisis in Mexico as their prime opportunity to enact restrictive measures on law-abiding patriots. Our Constitution guarantees that each of us is permitted to keep and bear firearms (including ammunition) for self-protection, subsistence, and entertainment, yet over the past one hundred years we have allowed them to subjugate these very rights under the guise of “reasonable” gun laws. The problem is, there is NO reasonable interpretation of the Constitution that sacrifices an inalienable right in the process.

    We the people of the United States remain more powerful than the President, the Congress, and the Supreme Court combined. They are our limbs, not our brains. They represent our servants, not we their slaves. Police and federal agencies are bound by the Constitution. We are empowered by it. The stresses underlying our society are sufficiently powerful enough to topple one or more political parties and, quite possibly, the very nature of our Washington leadership. We are resilient and permissive, but the cracks enforced by the Obama Administration’s unconstitutional threats upon our culture have laid the foundation for serious change beyond even that envisioned by his campaign promises. Gun ownership may very well represent the tripwire that detonates society’s “claymore” of wholesale activism. It may represent that final line in the sand that distinguishes citizens from inhabitants.

As has been discussed elsewhere, the FDA is threatening General Mills over its advertising Cheerios’ assistance in lowering cholesterol. In so doing, the FDA claims to be the sole gatekeeper for health information in the U.S. Yet as Dan Klein and Alex Tabarrok show on our related website, FDAReview.org and in related commentary; and Robert Higgs’s extensive research supports, the FDA’s practices have rather resulted in untold unnecessary deaths by keeping life-saving technology and drugs from the doctors and patients they could have helped — economists’ estimates vary from hundreds of thousands to millions of lives lost by the FDA’s use of its power to keep efficacious drugs and devices from the market. Yet at the same time, drug manufacturers remain liable for damages their products are alleged to have caused, even though passed as “safe” by the FDA.

In the late 1960s, Paul Ehrlich became a media darling following the publication of his book, The Population Bomb. Ehrlich’s crystal ball apparently enabled him to see with certainty that population growth would soon outstrip resources, proclaiming “the battle to feed all of humanity is over … In the 1970s and 1980s hundreds of millions of people will starve to death in spite of any crash programs embarked upon now.” Among other policy prescriptions, Ehrlich called for “compulsory birth regulation… [to be achieved by] the addition of temporary sterilants to water supplies or staple food. Doses of the antidote would be carefully rationed by the government to produce the desired family size.” Fortunately, the U.S. had not yet reached the state it has apparently reached today, and his policy recommendations were not enacted. However, it was a hugely popular view championed in the media and on college campuses, with thousands of college students undergoing voluntary sterilization. Other countries, of course, bought into this Malthusian view; the most extreme being China’s mandatory one-child policy, resulting in forced abortions and sterilizations, and the abandonment and killing of millions of female babies. This has had numerous and as-yet untold unintended consequences, from the tragedy of families now childless following the deaths of their single children in last year’s earthquake, to the epidemic of the sex-slave trade in China’s female-starved cities. Meanwhile, the subsequent lives of those American college students of the ’70s who may have later changed their minds about wanting children is unknown.

As history has proven, rather than the dystopia Ehrlich outlined, the 1970s and ’80s were a time of increasing prosperity virtually worldwide, and all economic evidence is that humans are a net asset to the world. While population quadrupled in the 20th century, life expectancy has at the same time increased, doubling since the 19th century, and worldwide per capita food production is nearly 50 percent higher than 50 years ago. A bug researcher, Ehrlich was not and is not an economist — a student of Human Action — and thus fails to take into account the wondrous effects of human ingenuity. The Green Revolution turned previous areas of desolation and privation into bread- (and rice-) baskets; while countless other innovations and discoveries have resulted in the cost of nearly every natural resource falling, indicating their relative abundance.

Today we face the specter of reduced lifestyles in the West and continued privation and poverty in the less developed world as a result of the fearmongering of the global-warming lobby. Led by some of the largest utility companies (including the late Enron) and nuclear power companies like Exelon (see the Huffington Post’s “Internal Memo: Nuclear Power Company Could Make A Billion A Year From Climate Change Law“); and carbon-trading financial titans such as Al Gore, the current worldwide crusade to end access to cheap and efficient energy smears any attempts to question its “consensus:” see for example “EPA May Have Suppressed Report Skeptical Of Global Warming“. The squelched report’s author found the studies the EPA is using to support global warming legislation are at least three years out of date and “global temperatures are roughly where they were in the mid-20th century. They’re not going up, and if anything they’re going down.”

If drug companies and General Mills are to be held to the strictest liability for their claims, ought not the same standard be applied to those who not only make false contentions, but are further able to get legislation enacted severely negatively impacting millions, if not billions, of individuals, while profiting from it themselves? Will we be able to sue Al Gore or any of the utility companies who have spent $51 million in the past six months lobbying for today’s legislative changes, for damages caused by their claims?

I experienced a bit of long-overdue silence, and what came to me was this:  Life is, and always has been, a struggle.  The fishing pole bends heavier for some than others, and nobody has yet to figure out why -- just as you never know, when you make a cast, if what attacks your fly is a finger-size baby snapper or a tiger shark that can turn you into bait.  Still, we struggle with the rod just the same.  Life to me is like a fish on the line.  When it is there, you feel it.  You fight it.  You gain line.  You lose line.  But if that line suddenly snaps, or the pole breaks, or a thousand other problems occur that fishermen use as excuses when the tension is gone, you feel it even more.  --Jimmy Buffett, A Salty Piece of Land, page 425

By the time most of us are mature enough to know the value of life and the minuscule time we have allotted to us on this beautiful globe, we have wasted more years than we have ahead of us.  The lessons we have learned the hard way cannot truly be conveyed to others, they are probably still too young to understand.  The lessons our elders tried to teach us suddenly start becoming clear.  I'm sure God knew what he was doing when He planned things this way.  Truth is, sometimes we feel like the fisherman and other times we feel like the fish...

People are dying for freedom in Iran while US President Barack Obama had a Hawaiian luau and Shepherd Smith is having an hour-long orgasm on Fox News following a car chase.  Celebrities die young and push national news off the airways while citizens are still losing their jobs and homes in spite of promises from the One.  We all have our priorities.   God must be very patient and He surely has a sense of humor.

God has given us one life.  Most Christians believe God has a plan for our lives, but too often we search for that great big thing out there that we think God wants us to do.  In reality, God's will for our lives may be as simple as taking care of family, setting an example to others, teaching the small and simple truths of the Bible, being a good citizen.

Our heart beats, our lungs fill with air, we smell the fragrances of our world, our mind remembers, calculates, creates, imagines all manner of things.  By the grace of God we continue to tick.  In our own small way, each of us continue to fight against the evils that exist in this world.  We fight to the best of our abilities.

Here in the US we have a congress voting on non-existent bills;  a government spending money they don't have and can never pay back;  a government taking over private businesses, using questionable groups to skew voting districts and take the census; politicians who sell or trade their votes for favors and feel no sense of obligation to the voters who put them in office.  I see a country that is split more than I have ever seen it before.

Someone stated that history is short, history for most of us is what we can remember in our own lifetimes.  Tick, tick, tick.  As we are confronted with wrongs, God expects us to speak out, to take a stand, to be either hot or cold, and not lukewarm.  After all is said and done, we hope, we pray and we have confidence that when God casts his line, when he throws his net, in His mercy he will find us good enough to keep. 

This body that God gave us also represents the body of Christ and the church, a living, breathing entity whose members and parts all need to function to keep the body working properly.  We are Fearfully and Wonderfully Made, as Phillip Yancy and Paul Brand wrote -- a delicate fabric of cells as awesome and mysterious as the galaxies of space. Life is great as long as everything is working together the way our Heavenly Father intended.

The same goes for our country, a complicated mixture of humans all living together, all having a role in how the country goes.  When all works the way our Founding Fathers planned this is the brightest and best nation of all. 

When the human body has a cancer or invading illness, the surgeon does his best to cut it out to save the body.  As a nation we have a cancer growing, you can call it whatever you want -- Liberalism, Socialism, Fascism, -- by whatever label it needs to be cut out.  As healthy members of this American body each and every voter needs to do all he can to vote out the offending politicians in 2010 and 2012.  In order to save the patient, our beloved country, and give her a chance to live in Freedom in the future, this is our responsibility.

Right now in our country the fishing line is ready to snap, the fishing pole is bending and ready to break, it's time for action.  If you are mature enough to know the value of life and the minuscule time we have allotted to us, don't waste a minute.  Independence Day, July 4th, is the perfect time to join with others, be rejuvenated, inspired, refreshed, and renewed both in body, mind and spirit.  Celebrate life -- your life, the life of our country, the life of Freedom, Democracy, Capitalism...

Don't miss an opportunity to tell those near and dear, "I love you."

Facts and Figures

"Nick Jouriles, president of the American College of Emergency Physicians and an Akron-based emergency physician, says he has seen an increase in injuries from do-it-yourself projects in the past year, and he says it's probably the result of homeowners trying to save money in a struggling economy.", reports Jillian Berman in USA Today.  The article quotes comments on Angie's List and Todd Taylor, a physician working for Microsoft in Tennessee, who fell off a ladder and spent 2 months in a wheelchair.

We are not told whether there are any actual facts, figures, or surveys as to whether there are actually more injuries to homeowners and whether they are doing these projects because of the struggling economy or simply because they enjoy doing things themselves.  Funny thing those facts and figures.

I consulted with my resident emergency room physician who informs me there are no facts or figures that could support or refute these claims, as emergency room personnel do not ask and report 'why' you did what you did, there are no databases with this type information, it must all be anecdotal.

So while the article at USA Today is an interesting read, we cannot take it at face value.  One thing we can be sure of -- If Barack Obama gets his government health care, these folks won't be allowed to rush to the emergency room with every little home improvement accident and if they do, they sure won't get the comprehensive treatment they do today.  There are facts and figures to support that, just look at any country with government run health care and you will have the facts.

Ain't that a kick in the head!

Justice for White Firefighters

Bad news for Sonia Sotomayor:

WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court, voting 5-4 in a case that has been a lightning rod for high court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, invalidated a Connecticut city's decision to scrap the results of a firefighter promotion exam in which the white candidates scored better than their black peers.

Justice Anthony Kennedy, writing the court's opinion, said the city of New Haven violated a section of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that prohibits employment discrimination.

"Whatever the city's ultimate aim -- however well intentioned or benevolent it might have seemed -- the city made its employment decision because of race," Justice Kennedy wrote.

"The city rejected the test results solely because the higher scoring candidates were white."

Justice Kennedy said an employer cannot throw out an exam unless there is strong evidence that the test harmed minorities. New Haven didn't meet this standard, he said.

The court's four other conservative justices joined Justice Kennedy's opinion.  (Wall Street Journal)

Failed Dutch Blog Receives 170.000 Euro Bailout

Today, the responsible department told DDS that PlusPost will receive the bailout it requested. The struggling blog - which pretends to be rightist (for the free market, small government, individual freedoms, etc.) - will receive 170.000 euro. That is $238.000.

Who pays for that? The tax payer of course. The Dutch tax payer, who works hard every day to make a living, who struggles to keep his head above water due to the severe economic crisis, pays for a failed blog owned by a millionaire.  (read it all)

Suicide **UPDATE**

**UPDATE**  I am happy to report this morning that I heard from this man and he is still alive.  He has decided to go on with life for now and I am so pleased.  God can change our situation, He can give us hope and will to live and He can meet our needs in this life.  Life is precious.  I am very thankful to hear from this man and report to you he is alive. **END UPDATE**

We make many decisions in our lives, most we can go back and change -- not so with suicide.  A long-time reader here at Right Truth emailed me today saying he was going to kill himself tonight.  We make internet friends, not really knowing who these people are.  But this man emailed me regularly, sending me comics, links to articles he thought important.  He also sent me mp3's of songs he thought the grouch and I would enjoy.  As I type this, I do not know if he is still alive...

He tells me that he recently lost his job and that he has a long-term illness, his money is almost gone, and he will not live on the streets.  He tells me "good-bye" and that he is going to jump off the roof of his Los Angeles apartment building tonight.

I contacted the police department with the information I had, name, former employer, IP address, email address...  The police officer I talked with was very polite and immediately got on the internet trying to do what he could.  But the truth is, as the policeman states, we don't really know if this is his real name, his real employer, and the employer is closed since it's Sunday night.  The policeman also noted that email addresses can be obtained with false information.

With all that said, I pleaded with him, "Can't you contact AOL and have them find out who this person is, can't you track down the IP address???"    I realize in a large city how many people with the same name probably exist.  I understand, like the policeman said, this is like searching for a needle in a haystack.  But, I'm still wondering if there was something else that could have been done.

I hope this man is still alive.  I hope he contacted someone as I suggested.  There are agencies out there to help people like him.  I asked him if he had family, friends, somebody -- he said no.

If you want to kill yourself, it's your choice.  For people who are truly suicidal, they will keep trying until they succeed.  But know this -- there are no more choices.  Suicide is final.

My mother died in January 2001 after a long illness.  I tried caring for my father, visiting him often, calling often, taking him home-cooked meals etc.  But in September 2001 he shot himself in the head.  It was what he wanted.  He no longer wanted to live without my mother.  It was his choice and he did it. 

I had to deal with the aftermath.  I had to go to the hospital and claim the body, fill out forms, arrange for burial and funeral.  I had to take care of the finances, pay the bills, sell the house, land, belongings.  I had to live with the fact that my father shot himself in the head.  There is no going back from that.  There is no getting that image out of your head.

If you are out there and still alive, don't do it. 

When I started this blog in 2005 it was merely to share information concerning terrorism.  I did not sign up for suicide watch.

As of 11:26 p.m. Central Time, I have not heard any word from this man.

Congress impatient with Obama on Iran, North Korea

Good.

Washington - Some members of Congress, increasingly impatient with the Obama administration's "give diplomacy a chance" stance toward Iran and North Korea, are pressing for new punitive measures against those countries.

This week the House Appropriations Committee attached an amendment to the 2010 foreign operations appropriations bill that would direct the Export-Import Bank to cut off US loan guarantees to certain companies doing business with Iran, particularly in the petroleum sector.

On Wednesday, Sen. Sam Brownback (R) of Kansas called on the Obama administration to use measures included in the Patriot Act to designate North Korea a "primary concern" of the US over its money-laundering networks. That would authorize the Treasury Department to take steps on the issue.

The two measures follow several months in which congressional attempts to sanction the regimes stalled as the Obama administration argued for time to see if international diplomacy would produce any results. The overriding concern in both cases is the regimes' nuclear programs.

But Iran's recent crackdown on protesters disputing the June 12 presidential election has galvanized many in Congress, especially Republicans critical of President Obama's initial response to the Iranian repression. North Korea's unabated belligerence in the wake of toughened UN sanctions – in particular Pyongyang's threat to launch a missile toward Hawaii – has had a similar effect.  (continue Christian Science Monitor)

New Detention Plan

Obama's new terrorist detention plan same as G. W. Bush's detention plan, except here on American soil.  Oh my:

The Nation -- The Obama administration is rushing towards a unilateral plan to imprison people without trial, according to a huge, new joint article from the Washington Post and ProPublica. The proposal would completely cut Congress out of the process by using an executive order to essentially bring Gitmo stateside:

The Obama administration, fearing a battle with Congress that could stall plans to close the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, is drafting an executive order that would reassert presidential authority to incarcerate terrorism suspects indefinitely, according to three senior government officials with knowledge of White House deliberations. Such an order would embrace claims by former president George W. Bush  that certain people can be detained without trial for long periods under the laws of war. Obama advisers are concerned that bypassing Congress could place the president on weaker footing before the courts and anger key supporters, the officials said.  (continue)
