Let's forget about Obama, terrorists, misery in the world and talk about something completely different... Margaritas. No I'm not a drinker, a glass of wine for medicinal purposes is usually my limit, ... well maybe two glasses if it's good stuff. I go with hubby when his band plays, and I've watched the other wives and audience drink these yummy looking drinks. They just look sooooooo good, all frosty, and sweet colors of red, greens, and even blues. So I just had to taste one.
I popped down to the local grill where we know the owners and everybody who works there, the band plays there once a month. I told the waitress to make me a Margarita, I wanted to see what one tasted like. I put it in a 'to go' glass and headed home. I snuggled up with sweet Penny, hubby was at band rehearsal, and took my first taste of a Margarita. YUM YUM. Not even sure what was in it -- rum, tequila, triple sec, -- but whatever combination of concoctions ended up in my glass, it was delish.
I might have to change from a glass of wine at night to a Margarita, for medicinal purposes only you know. I did a little checking and there can be quite a few calories in one of those little drinks. So I did some more research and found that you can actually buy a sugar-free Margarita mix, no calories, non carbohydrates, because it is made with Splenda. The only calories would be from the alcohol you add.
Here's Baja Bob's sugar-free recipe:
- 3 parts Baja Bob's prepared mix.
- 1 part Tequila.
- Add ice. (1/2 cup or more to slush)
- Blend on high.
- Moisten and salt rim of drinking glass. (optional)
Authentic Margarita is this:
1 oz. Cointreau
2 oz. Tequila
fine sea salt
ice
Here's another recipe I found:
Ice
1 1/2 ounces tequila (blanco, 100 percent agave)
1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice 1/2 ounce Cointreau (not Triple Sec)
So I'm wondering what input from you readers I can get. Do you have a good recipe? Do you have another favorite drink that sounds better?
I know many of you are teetotalers when it comes to alcohol, but all the latest reports, studies, and cardiologists prove that a certain amount of alcohol (not just red wine, any kind of alcohol) each day is good for your heart and long, happy life. Just ask the Grouch.
Also, we live in a dry country, you can't buy alcohol here, so we have to drive an hour away to stock up. We ran out of our wine and have been drinking one ounce of Vodka. It's not so bad with some orange juice (which is very healthy for you).
Did you know you can get flavored vodka? Who knew??? Certainly not me, I'm an infant when it comes to these things. The waitress/bartender told me that Grey Goose Vodka is the best, I wouldn't know.
All I know is that Margarita sure did taste good. Better than Spumanti, and I do like that stuff.

Nice you found some good drinks there Debbie.
Yeah, there are many, many out there, for some the taste of whiskey or such is just too strong.
I'm partial to all, as long as it taste good and doesn't have any weird things in it, i'm in. :)

Tequila Sunrise tastes pretty good too. Overindulgence has never been a problem for me, I don't have an addictive personality at all. I suppose you can over do it with anything (even chocolate).
The local Grill doesn't make their drinks very strong at all, probably to keep the customers coming back and also to make a big profit. I suppose all places are like that.

In my long-lost youth, I used to drink tequila, ala tequila sunrises. I was cured of it after one gross overindulgence, whenst the real sunrise was accompanied by some evil little tequila smurf, banging away with a sledge behind my eyes, on my cranium. I'd a killed the little liberal bast...twit, if the room hadn't been spinning so bad I couldn't line up a shot on 'em... ;)

I have a dash of the vodka with some lemonaide (hard lemonaide) not bad. It also goes well with Mountain Dew and Cherry 7up.

The drink sounds good Debbie. I gave up mixed drinks some time ago, however I do still have an occasional beer. Matter of fact I was next door today visiting with my neighbor(a strong liberal lady) and we lifted a few cans while having our heated exchanges as we often do. We both enjoy those times. We feed a number of stray cats and one decided to have her kittens right in front of my rear steps going off the deck. With politics and kitty birthing my afternoon was quite full--late now still recovering.
