U.S. intelligence agencies were aware months ago that Army Major Nidal Hasan was attempting to make contact with people associated with al Qaeda, two American officials briefed on classified material in the case told ABC News.
It is not known whether the intelligence agencies informed the Army that one of its officers was seeking to connect with suspected al Qaeda figures, the officials said.(ABC)
Fort Hood gunman Maj. Hasan told US military colleagues that infidels should have their throats cut, "non-believers should be beheaded and have boiling oil poured down their throats". In his off duty time he spent hours at the local strip joint receiving lap dances from the blond girls.
Selena Coppa, an activist for Iraq Veterans Against the War, said: "This man was a psychiatrist and was working with other psychiatrists every day and they failed to notice how deeply disturbed someone right in their midst was."
One of Hasan's neighbours described how on the day of the massacre, about 9am, he gave her a Koran and told her: "I'm going to do good work for God" before leaving for the base. (Islam in Action)
The media can't seem to decide whether his name is Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan, or Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, I find it both ways in much of the media. But by whatever name, he is a terrorist. Those who worked or took classes with Hasan complained about his "constant anti-American rants" and warned that he "was a "ticking time bomb" after he made a presentation defending Islamic suicide bombers". One sent "a document sent to Pentagon officials that fear in the military of being seen as politically incorrect prevented an "intellectually honest discussion of Islamic ideology" in the ranks." (NYP)
Hasan held his mother's funeral at and attended Dar al Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church, Va., where Nawaf al-Hazmi, one of the hijackers who crashed a jet into the Pentagon and another hijacker, Hani Hanjour, attended under the ultraradical imam Anwar Aulaqi.
In a blog posting early Monday titled "Nidal Hassan Did the Right Thing," Awlaki calls Hassan a "hero" and a "man of conscience who could not bear living the contradiction of being a Muslim and serving in an army that is fighting against his own people." [snip]
A fellow Army doctor who studied with Hasan, Val Finell, told ABC News, "We would frequently say he was a Muslim first and an American second. And that came out in just about everything he did at the University.
Finell said he and other Army doctors complained to superiors about Hasan's statements. (ABC)
Muslim first, American second. That statement doesn't truly express what Army Doctor Val Finell meant. Most of us would say that we are Christian first, or Jew, or whatever, before we are an American. But we honor our American citizenship, we love our fellow Americans, we do not want them harmed. Being Muslim first has an entirely different meaning.
But clearly, the massacre might have been an act of terrorism, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) said yesterday.
"I want to say very quickly we don't know enough to say now, but there are very, very strong warning signs here that Dr. Hasan had become an Islamist extremist and, therefore, that this was a terrorist act," Lieberman told "Fox News." (NYP)
The nausea continues:
The U.S. Homeland Security secretary Janet Napolitano says she is working to prevent a
possible wave of anti-Muslim sentiment after the shootings at Fort Hood
in Texas.
General George Casey Jr., the Army chief of staff, said on Sunday that
he was concerned that speculation about the religious beliefs of Maj.
Nidal Malik Hasan could “cause a backlash against some of our Muslim soldiers.”
“I’ve asked our Army leaders to be on the lookout for that,” General Casey said in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union. “It would be a shame — as great a tragedy as this was — it would be a shame if our diversity became a casualty as well.” (Islam in Action)
No General Casey, it's a shame that your PC diversity has actually led to the violent death of 13 people, the awful injuries of others, and trauma to the entire base. Your diversity allowed this terror to happen.
Missed out on martyrdom, taken down by American woman.
Fort Hood Shooter Muslim - UPDATE: Media Malpractice, Hasan is still alive.
Hasan's calling card, via Atlas Shrugs
Here is the card that major Muslim Nidal Hasan gave to the infidels along with a quran...
Could this lowlife jihadi be any more devout? He mosqued every day. Hated America, hated the troops, proselytized his co-workers, planned his jihad and completed his mission. His head was shaved. What else was shaved? If his body was shaved like his head, then the military guys and law enforcement know and have known that this was jihad, and they are scamming us now.
Now look at the card. Notice the SoA on the card? Soldiers of Allah. Followed by SWT, an abbreviation that usually follows the word Allah. (hat tip Robert)When writing the name of God (Allah), Muslims often follow it with the abbreviation "SWT." These letters stand for the Arabic words "Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala," or "Glory to Him, the Exalted." Muslims use these or similar words to glorify God when mentioning His name.

Bingo, RJ. I searched the web using Google to try to find if anyone else noticed that the the choice of an FN57 is basically too odd to be anything other than proof of premeditation.
I heard a rediculous proposal today on AM talk radio. The liberal host suggested that Hasan was in fact attempting to commit "suicide by cop" (where the shooter fires at police officers in order to be killed by return fire). This is a rediculous proposal give the fact that the shooter chose a firearm that is specifically designed to defeat body armor. If the intent of Hasan was to "draw fire" in order to commit suicide, why the heck would he choose a weapon with the potential to kill even those wearing body armor? Well the obvious explanation for Hasan's weapon choice is that he intended to kill as many people as he could. Drawing fire was not his primary motive - killing as many people as possible was his primary motive. That's why he chose the only handgun in the world that fires a bullet specifically designed to defeat body armor, and has the highest standard magazine capacity of any handgun currently available (20 rnds).
It's very clear; if you want the most killing power in a handgun, there is no better choice on the planet than an FN5.7... And Hasan knew that. Why else would he buy such an odd firearm which is both so costly to purchase as well as so costly to shoot. It's a crazy choice for someone who just wants to buy a defensive firearm for personal protection.

Debbie,
FN produces armor-piercing rounds which are "sold only to law enforcement and military agencies" but that's if you want to penetrate vehicles or equipment. Personal body armor rarely stops anything above a .45 and high-speed rounds such as the 5.7mm translate more into a rifle round than anything.
On a separate matter...
That Hasan was frequenting strip clubs leaves me thinking about all those other Islamic terrorists who got lap dances. Could it be that they were trying to psych themselves up for the "77 virgins" that await them? Perhaps our intel people need to start visiting the strip clubs outside of Dearborn? ;o)

RJ: I stand corrected. Someone told me it was only sold to the military. Thanks for that.
Hasan has both of this fatigue pants cargo pockets FULL of magazines. Word is that he fired over 100 shots, but had enough ammo to keep firing for a looooooooong time.

Debbie,
5.7x 28mm ammo can be ordered online (UPS delivered) from Cabela's for $119.99 (250 rounds), $219.99 (500 rounds), or $409.99 (1,000 rounds) and they throw in free dry boxes (a $14.99 value!).
Ammunition supply was the least of Hasan's difficulties.

RJ: I reported on the type of gun and ammo previously, but you make an excellent point. Also the ammo is not sold to just anybody. When, where, and how he bought the gun and ammo will be very interesting.
And your point that this was planned way ahead of time is accurate.

Debbie,
What I have to say is all based upon speculation and incomplete information, mind you, but here's a little bit more troubling information.
Hasan allegedly used as one of his firearms of choice a FN Herstal Five-seveN USG firing 5.7x28mm rounds. For convenience, I will divert to the experts over at Gun Blast if your readers want some more tech data: http://www.gunblast.com/FN-FiveseveN.htm
Anyway, the 5.7mm is basically one step above a .22 magnum and designed for trajectory speed than anything. It has an effective range of 200m which is astounding for a pistol. It's been called a "cop killer" (odd because I always thought that it was people who killed others) because it can penetrate most military and police body armor (as would most any other cartridge not fired by a pistol).
FN, unlike most manufacturers, ships their guns with three magazines instead of two (I have to special order mags for my Taurus), so in the case of the Five-seveN, a shooter can have 60 rounds available immediately. Also, this unique FN pistol, being of such a relatively small caliber, is appreciated by those who cannot handle very much recoil -- light frame women, elderly people with arthritis, etc. This low recoil also permits a shooter to remain on target for subsequent follou-up shots.
Now, my point is, this is not a firearm that many people know about. I doubt there are many gun enthusiasts who are aware of its peculiarities. Not to mention it costs over $1,000 on "sale".
Therefore, this does not strike me as the weapon of choice for someone who simply "lost it". Hasan obviously did his homework and this beckons to be called a "pre-meditated" crime in my book.
