Cap and trade could cost 52,000 Tennessee jobs This month, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research published a policy report detailing the impact that cap and trade legislation could have on Tennessee's economy. If we took a moment to rank every government agency in the United States on the basis of tackling complex problems, NASA would have to be at the top of everyone’s list.  Thousands of scientists and administrators work every day to successfully bridge the gap between science and the great unknown.

But perhaps more important than their ability to leverage science to push the boundaries of human achievement, NASA has proven time and again that they know how to execute.  Imagine for a moment any other agency being charged with getting a 4.5 million-pound payload into outer space on a regular timetable.  Never mind time and again performing these miracles on a budget.

But here’s the real kicker.  About a decade ago the folks at NASA began worrying that America might be losing its love affair with space exploration.  They saw budget cuts looming on the horizon and fewer and fewer cameras were showing up for the next shuttle launch.  As the country became worried about more pressing issues such as record unemployment, terrorism, climate change and healthcare, NASA was becoming irrelevant. 

So the agency started looking around for a little side project. 

It didn’t take long for NASA to realize that renewable energy was the next big frontier.  They were also pretty certain the answer would come from the greatest source of clean energy known to man: the Sun — something the folks at NASA felt they knew a little about.

So NASA quietly embarked on a program called “space-based solar.” They were determined to solve, once and for all, the growing need for clean, renewable energy, for the American people and every man, woman and child on the planet.  Imagine the impact this would have in terms of clean water, hospitals, infant mortality, education and agriculture in even the most remote villages of the world. 

The idea behind space-based solar was to install solar cells high above the Earth’s atmosphere where the yield is more intense.  The energy would be transmitted in the form of diluted, harmless wavelengths to a small satellite dish attached to the roof of every home and business (think satellite TV dish).  No more wires or dams or electrical towers strewn across the desert.  No more coal-fired plants or nuclear power facilities.  No more solar mattresses affixed to our rooftops.  No brown outs, power outages or back-up generators.  All of them gone, in an instant.

Sounds brilliant.

But what would you say if I told you that NASA has this technology today? 

What if I said that NASA has been banging at the door of the U.S. Department of Energy for over a decade and no one will answer.  Every time they get a foot in the door they are chastised for “mission creep” and “overreach.”  NASA?  Those scientists need to stick to pictures of Mars.

Time to sound The Watchman’s Rattle:  Wake up, America!

As China takes the market for solar and wind technology right out of the hands of the DOE (just ask any venture capital firm specializing in clean tech – the writing is on the wall), NASA stands ready for a new mission:  to leap-frog the worldwide hunt for renewable energy by initiating a full-scale space-based solar program.  We have the technology, we have the resources, we have the need and the will – now all we need is for the Oval Office to run with it.

No country has a space agency more knowledgeable, powerful or successful than NASA and the time has come for the United States to leverage this untapped asset.  Forget investing in more nuclear power plants or trying to manufacture solar panels and wind generators more cheaply than China.  When you can’t compete nose to nose there’s only one thing left to do: change the playing field.  And in this case, America owns the field.

Space-based solar is alive and well at NASA.  According to senior scientists who don’t care to have their 30-year careers at NASA come to an end for spilling the beans, pilot programs could be up an running within one year.  That’s right, just one year.  Compare this to the four to five years it takes for a single new nuclear plant to become operational.

America: stop chasing the market.  Get busy getting ahead of it.  We have NASA to thank for an opportunity to eclipse every other energy solution here on earth.

(Note from Debbie:  The above article is posted here at the request of the author.  I'm no scientist, but if NASA has this technology, if it is physically and financially possible to go forward with space-based solar, and if it could be provided to consumers at a reasonable rate, then why are we not pushing for this?)

State workers suggest leaving severely disabled people at homeless shelters

Indiana's budget crunch has become so severe that some state workers have suggested leaving severely disabled people at homeless shelters if they can't be cared for at home, parents and advocates said.

They said workers at Indiana's Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services have told parents that's one option they have when families can no longer care for children at home and haven't received Medicaid waivers that pay for services that support disabled people living independently.

Marcus Barlow, a spokesman for the Family and Social Services Administration, the umbrella agency that includes the bureau, said suggesting homeless shelters is not the agency's policy and workers who did so would be disciplined.

However, Becky Holladay of Battle Ground, Ind., said that's exactly what happened to her when she called to ask about the waiver she's seeking for her 22-year-old son, Cameron Dunn, who has epilepsy, autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.  (continue at AP)

It is important to note that there have been no confirmed cases of families dumping severely disabled people at homeless shelters because Indiana wouldn't provide the care needed.

Judge: McDonald's must pay obese employee $17.5K

A Brazilian court ruled this week that McDonald's must pay a former franchise manager $17,500 because he gained 65 pounds (30 kilograms) while working there for a dozen years.

The 32-year-old man said he felt forced to sample the food each day to ensure  quality standards remained high, because McDonald's hired "mystery clients" to randomly visit restaurants and report on the food, service and cleanliness.

The man also said the company offered free lunches to employees, adding to his caloric intake while on the job. His identity was not released.

The ruling was signed Tuesday by Judge Joao Ghisleni Filho in Porto Alegre.

Ghisleni said McDonald's could appeal the case, and the Brazilian headquarters of the chain said in an e-mailed statement Thursday it was weighing its legal options.

McDonald's also noted that it offers healthier food choices.

"The chain offers a large variety of options and balanced menus to cater (to) the daily dietary needs of its employees," the company said in the statement.

In my opinion this is not the fault of McDonalds, it is the fault of the PIG employee who too advantage of the free employee lunches and gorged himself into a fat slob.  Now McDonalds must pay this moocher.  Very unfair.

Whoever this fat guy is, he should have employed some personal responsibility and restraint.

 

 

Iran Attempts to Evade Shipping Sanctions

In August 2010, the US designated three Maltese companies--Marble Shipping Limited, Bushehr Shipping Company and ISI Maritime Limited--which are owned by an Iranian shipping company, for violation of the American sanctions regime restricting Iran’s importation of dangerous cargoes. [1] According to the U.S. Treasury officials, the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL), Iran’s national shipper, which owns the Maltese companies, “is a prime carrier of cargoes related to Iran’s missile and other military program as well as of arms shipments to Hezbollah”. [2]

Treasury Undersecretary Stuart Levey said Iranian tactics to evade sanctions includes “repainting or renaming ships, falsifying shipping documents and assigning vessel ownership to front companies outside Iran”. [3] He further said: “We must redouble our vigilance over both their (Iran’s) domestic shipping lines, and attempts to use third-country shippers and freight forwarders for illicit cargo. […] But while private business actions are critical for sanctions to work, it is essential that governments throughout the world now ensure that new sanctions are also translated into action.” [4]

Britain is overrun with Muslims from various countries.  As Angela Merkel of Germany stated, multiculturalism has failed.  It has failed in Germany, failed in Britain, failed everywhere it is tried.  Unfortunately by the time a country realizes they have erred, it's too late, they are overrun with Muslims who are living as they would in their home countries and destroying the new country.

The United States must learn a lesson here.

 

Sandra Day O’Connor does it again!

Clearly, our electoral system and OUR FREEDOM is in immediate danger!

 

When Federal Judges, especially a former Supreme Court Justice, Sandra Day O’Conner,  (on  Temporary duty at the 9^th Circuit Court)  strikes down a law, passed by the good people of Arizona, It is serious! This law was nothing but an attempt to insure that ONLY US CITIZENS vote in our elections, Local, State and Federal!

 

Clearly, the US  “9^th Circus” is at it again, Attempting to affect future elections, this time in Arizona (The 2012 Presidential election comes to the immediate forefront!) by stopping We the People in Arizona from insuring that only US Citizens vote in our elections.

 

If this type activity is allowed to stand, We the People, won’t have any control over our electoral process and We the People will just have to get used to being told what to do and how to live by a bunch of illegal aliens from all over the DAMN world!

 

The Federal Government won’t secure the border (Both Republican and Democrat controlled administrations) and now the Federal Courts are making it easy for people to vote using authentic, Arizona State issued identification to prove they are American Citizens when in fact they are not!

 

The only ID’s for voting purposes should be the following:

 

Verified US Birth Certificate

Verified US Naturalization Certificate

Verified US Passport and/or US Passport Card

 

We need to drop every person from every voting roll and start from scratch. We need to have everyone re-register and have every single person in the Nation prove they are a US Citizen by the above documents. Without a verified electorate, every election falls into question. With over 15 million illegal aliens in the country, (Most likely more) all getting false ID in every state in the Union, Obama’s win in 2008 by just 9,5 million votes comes into direct question.

 

Mark my words, in the near future;

 

There will be a push by democrats to allow NON-US CITIZENS to vote in local elections, but not US National elections. If We the People allow this to happen, we will create our own “slippery Slope” and it is only a matter of time until NON-US CITIZENS will be allowed to vote in all elections, making the huge illegal alien population, (far more than anyone wants to admit!) mostly Hispanic and mostly democrat, the deciding factor in every election from then on!

 

That will mean the Death to any opposition to democrat party control of our nation and ultimately the Death of our beloved Republic.

 

Stand-up America, raise Hell or get used to doing what you are told without question!

Political Update

There is so much going on related to politics and the upcoming elections here in the United States, I've selected some of the more important stories below.

First, the Heritage Foundation has a plan, sounds good to me:

Heritage has developed a plan that could help make congressmen more accountable to the people that elected them. If enacted, this Heritage proposal would change what elections cannot: how Congress itself is run. A shakeup of Congress’ internal structure could help newly-elected conservatives get a hearing for their ideas.

We have four major recommendations that both parties should implement before November 15, when new committee members will be chosen.

• The steering committee, rather than party leaders, should select all committee chairmen and members.

• Party leaders should no longer dominate or control the steering committee. This would allow rank-and-file Representatives to nominate and elect the controlling votes on each steering committee.

• Term limits should apply to all House and party leaders, including the Speaker, as well as to committee chairmen and ranking members.

• A cap should be placed on the overall size of each committee—such as a 50-member maximum—to avoid scenarios where committees wield a disproportionate amount of influence over the House.

“Over the last several decades, legislative branch authority has become overly concentrated into the hands of a few select leaders of the majority party,” Heritage experts Ernest Istook, Matthew Spalding and Michael Franc argue, “rather than the decentralized lawmaking body that is more consistent with its constitutional responsibilities.”  (continue reading)

 

From Stratfor, U.S. Midterm Elections, Obama and Iran:

The Democrats will lose their ability to impose cloture in the Senate and thereby shut off debate. Whether they lose the House or not, the Democrats will lose the ability to pass legislation at the will of the House Democratic leadership. The large majority held by the Democrats will be gone, and party discipline will not be strong enough (it never is) to prevent some defections.

Should the Republicans win an overwhelming victory in both houses next week, they will still not have the votes to override presidential vetoes. Therefore they will not be able to legislate unilaterally, and if any legislation is to be passed it will have to be the result of negotiations between the president and the Republican Congressional leadership. Thus, whether the Democrats do better than expected or the Republicans win a massive victory, the practical result will be the same. [snip]

Obama now has two options in terms of domestic strategy. The first is to continue to press his agenda, knowing that it will be voted down. If the domestic situation improves, he takes credit for it. If it doesn’t, he runs against Republican partisanship. The second option is to abandon his agenda, cooperate with the Republicans and re-establish his image as a centrist. Both have political advantages and disadvantages and present an important strategic decision for Obama to make.

The Foreign Policy Option

Obama also has a third option, which is to shift his focus from domestic policy to foreign policy. [snip]   

I am arguing the following. First, Obama will be paralyzed on domestic policies by this election. He can craft a re-election campaign blaming the Republicans for gridlock. This has its advantages and disadvantages; the Republicans, charging that he refused to adjust to the electorate’s wishes, can blame him for the gridlock. It can go either way. The other option for Obama is to look for triumph in foreign policy where he has a weak hand. The only obvious way to achieve success that would have a positive effect on the U.S. strategic position is to attack Iran. Such an attack would have substantial advantages and very real dangers. It could change the dynamics of the Middle East and it could be a military failure.   (continue).

More Illegal Electioneering By Harris County Democrats, from Rhymes With Right

And yet I somehow doubt that the latest confirmed case of Democrat shenanigans here in Harris County will get the same sort of national coverage as the vague, unconfirmed claims about poll watchers. [snip]

Given the boorish Miles has an intriguing record and colorful history of questionable activity, I'm not surprised that he would violate state law on polling place activities and make a bunch of trumped up claims to justify his actions. But the fact remains -- cops had to be called to remove him from the polling place, while none of his claims have been substantiated by any reputable source.

Paul A. Ibbetson is a former Chief of Police of Cherryvale, Kansas, and member of the Montgomery County Drug Task Force. Paul received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Criminal Justice at Wichita State University, and is currently completing his Ph.D. in Sociology at Kansas State University. Paul is the author of the books "Living Under The Patriot Act: Educating A Society" and "Feeding Lions: Sharing The Conservative Philosophy In A Politically Hostile World." Elections Have Consequences

My feelings should have been mixed today as I voted early with my sweet hubby, but I feel very positive.   We walked into the election office with monsoon rains, dark clouds, while under a tornado warning from the National Weather Service.  Yet this terrible weather did not dampen my spirits.  I thought gleefully of all the weasels in Washington whose political careers will hopefully end next week.  I was also overjoyed at the prospect of the many new Conservatives and TEA party participants that are slated to win elections next week.  The cherry on top of my joy parfait was the anticipation of Barack Hussein Soetoro Obama having only two more years in office.

Obama's slide from the Greek columns two years ago to a 37% approval rating has  been painful because each day of his presidency has brought this country down one step further toward socialism and away from the Constitution.  Stopping his policies is imperative and reversing the damage will be slow and agonizing for Americans. 

For someone who was supposed to unite not just the United States but the world, he has done nothing but divide.  He has set race relations back decades.  He has divided not only Americans, but his own party to the point they have no room for independent thinkers or even Blue Dogs.  Anyone who does not think as he does is   the enemy, un-American, and must be pushed to the back of the American bus.

Obama's demise is his own doing.  Obama's presidency and policies are the reason for the TEA party and the return to the Constitution by Republicans, some Democrats, and some Independents.

The decline of the Obama presidency can be traced to a meeting at the White House just three days after the inauguration, when the new president gathered congressional leaders of both parties to discuss his proposed economic stimulus. House Republican Whip Eric Cantor gave President Obama a list of modest proposals for the bill. Obama said he would consider the GOP ideas, but told the assembled Republicans that "elections have consequences" and "I won." Backed by the largest congressional majorities in decades, the president was not terribly interested in giving ground to his vanquished adversaries.  (The Roots of Obama's Demise, by Marc A. After the election next week Conservatives need to tell those remaining in the House, Senate and White House that "elections have consequences", that "we won", and business as usual is over.  Newly elected politicians need to go to Washington, take their own staff with them, tell the Republican elders in office "thanks, but no thanks" for their offer of current staffers and shepherding as to the usual way to do things.  Those days are over. 

Newly elected Conservatives need to inoculate themselves from accepting any offers  of help, goodies, positions, from the old guard.  Don't even accept a free soda from anyone.  Don't be indebted to anyone for anything.

It's a new day after the elections.  Sunrise for Conservatives and Sunset for Liberals and RINOs.  Just like the weather here after the tornadoes   move through, "the sun'll come out tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar".  That's exactly what the American people are doing  -- worrying about their bottom dollar -- with the economy in a downfall, stimulus (which united Republicans for the first time in opposition to the president), TARP, jobless numbers not improving, businesses afraid to hire, health companies not sure if they can stay in business, rates going up, taxes going up. 

Obama's foreign policy has been scary and completely ineffective at accomplishing anything he promised.  Iran is going ahead with it's nuclear program.  There is no Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement and there probably won't be.  Iraq and Afghanistan are going backwards in spite of his crazy plan to incorporate the Taliban into negotiations.  Terrorism is still alive, well and growing across the globe.  Free speech has been under attack.  Journalism in the MSM is a joke.

Everyone is betting their bottom dollar on a new Congress in November and a new Conservative president in 2012. 

I have high hopes for Americans, for this nation, for our future.  I have faith that many Americans have learned a hard lesson under Obama's two year reign.  I hope I'm not wrong.
