Wow, going all out to impress the world:
The Al-Rayyan stadium has been designed to include a "media facade" that includes a membrane that acts as a screen for projections; news, commercials, sports updates and current tournament information and matches
The Al-Shamal stadium's shape was derived from the traditional "dhow", the local fishing boats of the Arabian Gulf
The architecture of the Doha Port stadium references its location by creating a shape reminiscent of a marine animal - specifically a sea urchin...
See more at The Telegraph, including:
The Sports City stadium draws inspiration from the traditional Arabian tent...
The Al-Wakrah stadium complex is pictured in this artist's impression. The stadium and surrounding sports complex are designed to represent an oasis
On another note, from the Sudaneese Thinker an update:
Hello friends,
It's been a while since the last time I wrote to you. 2010 has been great and very eventful, and I hope it's been the same for you too as well.
A lot has happened throughout the year, and a few events in particular stand out, the most recent of them, at least to me, being Qatar's winning bid to host the 2022 World Cup.
I was overjoyed when I heard the news. I was also happy when I recently learned
that the Egyptian blogger, Kareem Amer has been freed from jail after completing
his sentence.
Meanwhile, the Bahraini blogger, Ali Abdulemam is still unfortunately in prison
though, and is being subjected to torture.
If you haven't already, and if you're a blogger, please spread the word and
write about this.
Other than that, happy holidays and talk to you soon! I'm back blogging
again occasionally now.
See you at my blog.
Cheers,
Drima | The Sudanese Thinker

I love looking at future building concepts.

You forgot the signs saying: "No Jews Allowed!"

Trestin: Me too. I just love architecture, old and new and especially oriental (Japanese).
Findalis: You may be right but it will be interesting to see what happens. There will surely be Jews playing in the events.

I've seen a lot of interviews and tv spots about this. But nobody has asked them if they'd allow Israel to play if Israel reached the finals or if they'd play Israel. I consider that a crucial question.

And the critical, deal-making-or-breaking question to be answered in the wake of 2010: will the stadium be vuvuzela-free?
Posted by: Skunkfeathers | December 05, 2010 at 04:11 AM
Let's hope they ban Vuvuzelas and not Jews!
Ironically, the Wikileaks cables suggest that US diplomats consider Qatar the worst Emirate in the region as to dealing with terrorism.

Shiloh Musings: Somebody needs to ask the question and get them on the record. The Emirates are a little more open that some others, so let's hope the do the right thing. The Jews better have good security.
As to the Vuvuzelas, please ban them. What a terrible idea they were.
