.... to supplement green cars and energy that doesn't work and Americans don't want? Take Hawaii (or the UK, or Australia, or any number of Western nations), where green energy and cars are pushed on people who don't want them. Even giving a $7,500.00 tax break from the Federal government and an additional $4,000.00 break from the State government on each green car that is sold. Problem is even getting the price down to normal gas engine cars, people don't want these cars. Only 250 Nissan Leafs were sold in the US. There is a new van, a new Smart-For-Two Electric Drive planned for 2012.
In the UK For every new 'green' job, nearly four are lost:
The collapse of Modec, the electric van manufacturer, shows how David Cameron's green economy is withering, says Christopher Booker.
Things aren’t going too well for the Prime Minister’s boast of leading “the greenest government ever”, giving us, as he said last year, “a real opportunity to drive the green economy, green jobs, green growth”. In 2007, Mr Cameron made a big play of opening a factory in Coventry to build electric-powered vans. Last week, after making only 400 vehicles in four years, the firm, Modec, sacked half its workforce and went into administration with debts of £40 million.
Meanwhile, in Australia, ridicule greeted a radio interview with Jill Duggan, a senior British official with the European Commission, who is playing a key role in the EU’s bid to reduce CO2 emissions by 20 per cent by 2020. Taken aback at being faced by two well-informed sceptics, she admitted she had no idea how many hundreds of billions of euros this would cost, or how much it could hope to achieve by way of reducing global temperatures. Nevertheless she claimed that “tackling climate change” has created “over a million new jobs” in Europe, including “many hundreds of thousands in the UK”.
Citing a new study which estimates that diverting £330 million into renewable energy destroyed 3.7 British jobs last year for every one created, the interviewers suggested that, with an unemployment rate of 10 per cent, there didn’t seem to be much Europe could teach Australia...(The Telegraph UK)
So the question is: How long can governments that are financially broke continue to underwrite industries that don't work and people don't want to buy?
Answer: As long as they can keep printing money and as along as Progressives, Socialists, etc. are in political office.

snake-hunter sez,
Debbie - Andrew McCarthy's {see: no-slappz blog} has been expounding on the futility of Prez Obama's "green" hogwash, and specifically..
GM's Volt..and Nissan Leaf, plus the $15,000 battery pack, for months.
It appears that.. the 'shovel-ready jobs', and the "plug-in ready cars" are just another "feel-good" fantasy. - reb

Debbie over the weekend I saw a hybrid car, and the notion of it is awesome, but OMG, the price is ridiculous. You truly need to be very rich to afford these cars and if not, you must sacrifice. I am all for going green and being eco friendly, but all within perspective. I do not appreciate the Gore's of this world that do not practice what they preach including Obama.
I did get a new computer, an upgrade. It is much better than what I had. I sent that computer back. They can have that lemon! My upgraded computer is really awesome, but more importantly it passed all my hard drive tests, the short and the long stress tests. Thank God! :)
Hope all is well by you. ;-)

Another answer to your final question: until the government eliminates all competitors of 'green' industry.

They'll keep spending like crazy until no one will lend them any more money and they run out of your money.

"Petraeus said that the substantial military gains could be jeopardized unless Congress provides adequate funding to the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development to provide economic development, governance and other civilian assistance."
If we can afford to keep fucking money away outside these borders for countries I DONT LIVE IN OR GIVE A SHIT ABOUT we can afford ANYTHING THIS COUNTRY NEEDS.
We are not broke. The rich just have all the money and we (taxpayers) give more to the major corporations while they pay no tax.
