Former Presidential candidate Herman Cain gave the TEA Party response to President Barack Obama's State of the Union speech this week and it was fantastic. Now I read that Herman Cain endorses Newt Gingrich , calling Gingrich "a patriot" and saying "Speaker Gingrich is not afraid of bold ideas". Is that the big idea of colonizing the moon while the US drowns in debt?
"I know that Speaker Gingrich is running for president and going through this sausage grinder," Cain said. "I know what this sausage grinder is all about."
Cain is set to campaign with Gingrich on Monday in an 11th hour push for support. Gingrich is in a fierce fight for Tuesday's Florida's GOP primary with Mitt Romney.
The Florida TEA Party also endorses Gingrich.
WHY WHY WHY??? Why not endorse Rick Santorum, who is the real Conservative in this race?
I'm disgusted!

Herman is a pragmatic man and although his heart (as yours Debbie) is with Santorum his head can't be , as Santorum is a sure fire loser in the general election.
Independents and such would never vote for a real conservative, and 'swing voters' hold the keys to The White House.
You have two choices - accept a possible GOP POTUS you have to hold your nose to vote for or accept , OR
(My hope ) 4 more years #OBAMA2008-2016
From your point of view surely you have to be pragmatic too.

I gotta agree with you Deb. Why don't people vote for Rick ? He's young, he's got great ideas, and he's not a member of "the Establishment " AND he would beat Obummer...Gingrich does'nt have a chance ! Not to mention i think Gingrich is a DOOFUS !

colonizing the moon is a stupid idea. Brainstorming is NOT a stupid idea although it often creates great ideas and stupid ideas. Being able to recognize the difference and not waste time on stupid ideas makes all the difference in the world. However most leaders will not participate in brainstorming ideas for the very reason that then they can be tied to any stupid ideas that are a result of the brainstorming. Most successful politicians prefer to do very little and lead by identifying what is popular and then getting in front of it. The problems we have today in this country and for that matter in every country is the result of successful politicians avoiding any thinking and following the popular movements. I would prefer a thinker over a professional politician.
I might point out that our entire manned space program has been mostly a waste of money. It costs the labor of 100,000 people and the riches of 300,000,000 people to keep half a dozen astronauts in space. So while I agree a colony on the moon is stupid I also feel a colony on a space station is stupid. And yet we did it and most people love it.

Colonizing the moon would still cost less than Obamacare.
However, space exploration has to be a private effort much like conquering the Atlantic (the Spanish treasure fleets or Lindbergh, take you pick).
Gingrich should have discussed the matter as 1. A wholly private venture, such as the above; 2. A way to generate technological advances in Florida freed from government regulations; and 3. A barrier towards Chinese lunar ambitions.
I like Santorum, too, but let's face it. He'd get eaten alive as President. The Tea Party is beginning to see this. Perhaps, after four to eight years of a Gingrich or (hopefully not) Romney presidency, the nation would have calmed down a bit after Obama drove a wedge into the heart of Constitutional America and we can tweak the electorate into voting for someone with more idealism than being a street fighter -- which is what it takes to be president nowadays.
Let's capture the presidency first, then work on corraling the president...

I was saying the same thing. Santorum is a straight up guy, a true believer and will fight to get this nation back in order.
However, if it comes down to Gingrich and Romney, God forbid, I will vote for Gingrich.
I am still rooting and supporting Santorum to the bitter end.

Here's an opposite view you you are interested from Martin at Blogbat:
The Moon Is Made of Cheese, You Know
QUOTE:
You sure as heck can't land there, let alone build a base
You have to love those crazy anti-science troglodyte RINOs and liberal Democrats in Washington. If they had their way, we'd turn back the clock and all live in 14th Century fiefdoms (under their control, of course) in mortal fear of fire and the Plague. US Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich offers the only way forward for the human race; the rest can go read Obama's eighth grade-level SOTU address. Am I suggesting that Mitt Romney and his kind are dullards? Dumb as rocks, yes. Dumb as geese that look up when it rains so they drown, yes!
They also realize that Newt's vision will benefit the American people and perpetuate this greatest country "on God's green earth", as Michael Medved puts it. I was a bit serious when I said they want to turn back the clock, but they want to turn it back to before 1776 when rights were not seen as unalienable and no one anywhere on earth knew they could clamor for them. To the effete, the golden years were the millennia that went before our time - the American era. Put succinctly, we're dealing with a bunch of Dark Age revanchists.

So what's wrong with the 14th century? ;o) The era produced some of the greatest saints in Christianity and most people lived for God first and their lives second.
We could use more of that today...
P.S. People in that age did not possess a "mortal fear of fire". They often used it to clean out the human trash! ;o)

My impression of Rick Santorum is he seems a little too meek at times when he should be exerting him self. I do believe he is the truest conservative of the bunch. But job one is to beat Obama.
Because I believe Gingrich can and will destroy Obama in the debates (something I cannot wait for) and he did do some positive things back in 94, he is getting my vote.
No, he is not the conservative we want, but, IMHO, if he gets the nomination, not voting for him is only a vote cast for Obama. I predict there will be even more people out to vote for BHO this time around because there are more people on government assistance than ever before and we are threatening their way of life.
You don't bite the hand that feeds you.
