Sweet hubby, the Grouch, spent the last few months planning a much needed vacation to Florida for the two of us, and what a great time we both had over the past two weeks. The sweet Grouch has a detailed post on our trip with great pictures here, don't miss it.
We spent two days with my brother and his family near Tampa. While there we were lucky enough to attend the party of the year, the 50 year wedding anniversary of my sister-in-law's parents.

Then we headed to Florida City where we spent the night and ate the finest seafood platter at one of our favorite restaurants, the Mutineer. Yum Yum. Only one of the fantastic meals we had during our trip.
Next morning we headed South to Key West.
Driving the long road to Key West.
Stopping along the way to enjoy the sites.
The sweet hubby who planned our perfect vacation.
So much to see in Old Town Key West and I don't think we missed anything.
Ship wrecks, museums, salvaged gold, silver, emeralds, oh my!
Below is a real bar of silver recovered from one shipwreck, heavy, and valuable.
More on shipwrecks and recovered treasures later.
Beaches, palms, sand, sunshine, and critters.
Roosters, chickens, and baby chicks are all over Key West running wild and begging scraps .
Churches of every denomination, beautiful buildings for worship.
More later...

Your getaway sounds positively idyllic, Debbie. Your pictures are beautiful. I especially like the pelicans. We had fun watching them dive into the ocean after fish in Charleston. And the Mutineer ... PIRATE themed? Aye, matey! I could get into that. I would have ordered shrimp. Think I'll mosey over to Grouch's site and see what he has to say about all this.

Jenny, you would love the Mutineer, all pirate themed, outside and inside

Nice pictures. Glad to hear you and hubby had a good vacation. Excellent choice. I have not made it that far south on the East Coast yet but plan to in the near future. Did you guys take the bike on this trip?

Rob: No we did not take bikes with us, but it is no problem to rent them there. You can also rent motor scooters.
It was a fantastic trip. The ferry ride to the Dry Tortugas, to see the fort, guided by the Park Ranger, was a great experience. So much history... Hubby loved that.
We also visited the Coast Guard ship and Navy ships that have been turned into museums, very interesting.
I loved the tour of homes, the old homes with gingerbread decoration that have survived many storms over the years, any with widow's walks.
Go, by all means, it is a fantastic trip.
I can tell you the restaurants are fantastic, they do not cost any more than our local restaurants. The weather was perfect 70's and 80's in January-February

p.s. You can also rent Harley Davidson motorcycles there

I'd like to ride the Vulcan to Key West but it is 1150 miles from our house there, one way. Couldn't hardly haul enough stuff to stay for very long. I think the clever thing would be to haul it behind on a trailer and then ride around after arrival.

You can ride your Vulcan anywhere you want sweetie.
