Local Sex Offender

Do you personally know any sex offenders?  It appears the Grouch and I do.  He has actually done carpentry work for us in our home.  Scary!

MADISON CO., TN (abc24.com) - The arrest of a violent sex offender could lead to answers in the disappearance of Holly Bobo.

A Madison County grand jury indicted 53-year-old Terry Britt on charges of sexual battery, attempted rape and two counts of aggravated kidnapping. He's been on the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry since 1977.

Britt is accused of picking up women in vans and taking them somewhere to assault them. Investigators believe he was working with another person to assault women.

Britt lives in Parsons, Tennessee, the same town as Holly Bobo. Right after Bobo disappeared, people on online message boards started blaming Britt.

Investigators have not confirmed if he's a suspect in Bobo's disappearance, but they do believe there are more victims.

Britt is currently being held at the Madison County Jail.

The TBI is asking anyone who was a victim or who was approached by Britt or someone in a van to contact them at 1-888-837-4170. (ABC24News)
 

Holly Bobo, in case you did not hear, is a local nursing student who was grabbed as she was leaving her house onde morning and has not been hear from since April 13, 2011. 

Holly is the cousin of country singer Whitney Duncan .  There has been no word, apparently no clues, for the TBI to follow since she went missing.

It is very creepy to personally know someone who is capable of grabbing women, picking up women in vans and taking them somewhere to assault them.  Whether he, Terri Britt, could be guilty of murdering Holly Bobo is another question.  This could be unrelated to his other sex crimes.

I would suggest everyone check their local sex offender website and become familiar with those in your area that are on the registry.

I would also suggest that you show pictures of these people to your family, friends and children.

Where I live in Europe , such websites are illegal and contrary to European Court of Human Rights legislation.

Arguement is publicity would make sex offenders including paedophiles 'go underground' and not report to probation / parole officials etc.

Can see that arguement , but think on this occasion US has the right system.

It's been a while since I checked our local offenders site here in Northern Virginia. But the last time I did, the numbers of former offenders were astounding!

I am in no way protecting offenders. There are some problems with the registry system and state laws. There are no distinctions made as to the crime involving adults, children or LGBT. You can look up the code but it is generic. Many times these people (men and women) have become model citizens and have the onus of an attempt or compilation charge attached to their original crime and the results are that they are lumped in with the same type you are discribing. In one local instance I looked and saw 5 registrants on one street just on the edge of town. When I asked a local friendly police representative about it he stated that five neighborhood boys and one girl had a most likely consensual party but the woman (she and the boys were just barely legal) was pressured by family into pressing charges. The convictions were felt by this officer to be technical and not really indicative of the fact that she had willingly participated. In another case a local druggie had been accused of a non-sexual assault on his female dealer. Not all that severe just a rough up. The jury and courtroom witnessed the complainaint being coached by her source and family members while on the stand with non-verbal clues. The jury dismissed the charges immediately. That druggie later, while totally under the influence found an apartment with the key in the door, went in and asked the female resident if she had ever thought about what it was like when you die. No offer of assault just illegal entry. Well as luck would have it she was very intimidated and cold cocked the guy with a lamp that created a slight skull fracture and chased him out causing him to fall down the stairs and break his ankle. Of course he was arrested at the emergency room. When the police saw who it was the prosecutor added attempted rape charges even though the victim testified in court that there was no offer or attempt. This was retribution for getting charges dismissed in that previous case. Long story short, the plea bargain of 3-4 years was not accepted and the Judge ,primed by the Prosecutor assigned 8-20 years and CSC which put him on the registry. Fast forward 8 years, you do the minimum (no good time in MICHIGAN) he had been an exemplary inmate and was paroled, exemplary parole and has become a productive, non druggie citizen with his own business as well as a full time job and now has a family. He is on that list. If you look him up it will list him as Home Invasion and Attempted CSCS 1. He is in communication with the government through a specialized lawyer on getting the CSC reversed because it wasnt part of his crime. He accepted and took responsibility for what he did as well as is honest with people about his past. Now an usher in his church with lots of friends who have seen what is really going on. Some re write is needed so that when you and I look these up we have better information. Currently we dont know whether to protect the children, our women or the next door LGBT. RJ you are right , I am not sure that the Mafia (family) enforcement wasnt more appropriate and effective than policing and prosecution.

I bet this man was personable and pleasant to deal with. It is common for the really bad predators (not just sex predators) to be very deceiving in public or when you first encounter them. They use this to get close (physically and socially) so they can overwhelm you at the last second. This is an important point to understand by those who carry a weapon or feel safe because of their youth, strength, martial training, etc. These people fool you until they are close with no one around and they will sucker punch you. It doesn't matter if you have a glock in your pocket or you are a cage fighter. You need to recognize that when a stranger suddenly seems strangely friendly to be aware/beware. They will always have a reasonable excuse; looking for a puppy/child, needing directions/help, panhandling, offerring to help you with your car/groceries, etc. It does not matter if you are a 5'1" 90 lb girl or a 6'2" 220 lb man if one of these people targets you they will use guile to get you into a position to overpower you in one punch and you will be at their mercy. They may prefer to attack women but they can and do go after other targets; that is they aren't all sex offenders, they may be after your money or entrance to your home. Your spider senses should tingle if anyone suddenly starts acting friendly on the street (or anywhere).

I am a firm believer that every sexual offender should be on probation for 10 years starting the day he leaves prison.

The county where he was convicted should have a required step to go to the prison, advise him or her that they will be required to meet with a probation officer every week for 10 years. That they will also have to stay in a probationary detention facility for sexual predators for 3 years, in a halfway house setting.

So slack for these scum.

My "spidy sense" was on high alert. The problem is that there is no information on the site, as far as I know, that tells citizens exactly what the person is on the sex offender site for.

If he had consensual sex with a girl friend when he was a teen, that's one thing. If he has a record of abduction, molestation, etc. then that should be on the site.

I think it is important that people know the details.

It's beyond me why scum like these are allowed to walk around committing crimes. Why can't they simply be executed when they've proved themselves incapable of being reformed.

A preliminary psychological profile was prepared a few weeks after the abduction based on observations & known info:

A year after Britt’s first conviction for rape, he was convicted of second-degree criminal sexual conduct and was sentenced to two years, according to court documents. In 1979, Britt was convicted on four counts of forgery and received a one-year sentence. According to the documents, all of those convictions occurred in Henderson County as well as convictions or guilty pleas on charges of:

Strong-arm robbery and arson in October 1983.

DUI, third-degree burglary and receiving stolen property in June 1987.

Britt also pleaded guilty to rape in Johnson County in July 1996. He received an eight-year sentence on that charge.

In Gibson County, he pleaded guilty to sexual battery in June 1987 and was sentenced to three years.

Glenn Adams: I had not see the initial psychological profile. It is pretty broad and parts of it could apply to a lot of different types of criminals and sex offenders.

I think the suggestion by the media that this particular person was in any way involved in the Holly Bobo case was simply that, speculation.

But time will tell

Glenn, I need your thoughts on something, a local sex offender has been following some girls around here in parsons, multiple people have turned his license plate into the local law enforcement, nothing has been done, why is this man still walking free after he has been charged for 2 rapes and 1 sexually battery starting in 1977 and each offense was 10 years apart, what can we do as a citizen to stop this?

Obviously, the above post was about Terry Britt, who fits the above profile, was no stranger to the game, and was actively stalking innocent victims, before, during, and after Holly's abduction..

The Strong-arm robbery and Arson in October 1983, only adds fuel to the fire, IMO..

Hopefully, the TBI will get to the truth of Terry Britt & Associate's evil trail of terror soon...and demand Justice for Holly Bobo & her family...

His history is interesting because of all the convictions and sentences, yet he remains free all these years.

He is married, his second marriage to my knowledge, and his wife works for the New Leader newspaper, not Britt himself. But he does show up at the paper and helps loading papers, I don't know what else he does.

He also does not adhere to the 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. curfew, if that is still in affect.

He was on the sex offender database at least a few years ago.

Yes, Debbie, ironically the subscribers to the 'New Leader' get their papers via US Mail. T. Britt supplies papers to paper boxes to convenience stores, etc., on Wednesday mornings..Pick up is at 3 AM...

Debbie the profile was prepared by me in early may 2011 due to the faulty assumptions, conclusions and hypothesis by investigators. All the indicators pointed to a an organized sexual predator who was no stranger to the game.
I have been researching predators for over 4 years due to the Meredith Hope Emerson(GA) abduction,which went tragically wrong..
