In an article today
Governor Haslam tells the People of Tennessee that he doesn't think
teachers or college professors should have the right to keep and bear
arms, and that Connecticut's gun control laws didn't have anything to do
with the recent Connecticut massacre. (Tennessee Campaign for Liberty)
In light of the recent school massacre in Connecticut Governor Haslam still maintains that educators in Tennessee, at all levels, should not have the ability to defend themselves against similar attacks.
From the article:
Haslam said he still believes schools and universities should be able to bar their employees from bringing their gun to work, a position that has put him at odds with some Republicans in the state legislature. Haslam said his focus would be on reviewing the state’s mental health services.
“I don’t know a lot of legislation that I’ve seen would have stopped what happened there, [CT school massacre]” Haslam told reporters Monday.

I've got a better idea i heard on the radio today.
There are plenty of retired cops and soldiers out there who are in their 50's and early 60's .
They would be perfect for the job, and they could pay em outta the teachers union dues !
Make them like the patrol specials in San Francisco and their sole duty would be to guard the school.
If it's a big school, then have 2 of em.
You would'nt need to train em , they know how to shoot and are good for such a job.

Paladin has a good idea. I think I have one too:
1-Get rid of this idiot Governor.
2-Even if you paid the teachers (one time only) to learn to shoot it would be cheaper in the long run to have them armed. Of course the unions who set up a cry - but you need to get rid of them along with the Governor.

That school had a lock-down procedure in place.
IF there had been a secure gun locker in the locked principal's office, and/or a security office near the entrance, with a metal detector device attached to an audible buzzer, plus video-cams in all classrooms, it's likely the only victim that day would have been the mentally disturbed shooter carrying three weapons with multiple ammo clips! - reb
