CBS New York reports that New York’s Cardinal Timothy Dolan is becoming a serious candidate for Pope.
The Italian paper La Repubblica reported the powerful cardinal
Tarcisio Bertone is working behind the scenes to advance Dolan’s chances
in the upcoming conclave.
However ...
Italian papers are buzzing about another potential American pope — Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston.
I'm not Catholic but I do believe they need a leader who will not knuckle under to a Liberal-Progressive agenda.
Alan Dershowitz is concerned about another potential Pope candidate.
Will a Notorious Anti-Semite Become The Pope?
Among those being considered to succeed Pope Benedict XVI is a notorious anti-Semite, Cardinal Andres Rodriguez Maradiaga of Honduras. His name has appeared on various media short lists and his photograph was featured, along with other possible candidates, on the front page of the Miami Herald. He was also under consideration the last time around, and his Latin American heritage is considered a plus this time. He is very charismatic and popular in his home country and was recently invited to speak to Latino Catholics in the United States.
To put it most simply, Rodriguez Maradiaga is an out and out Jew-hater. He has said that "the Jews" are to blame for the scandal surrounding the sexual misconduct of priests toward young parishioners! The Jews? How did Rodriguez Maradiaga ever come up with this hair-brained idea? Here is his "logic." He begins by asserting that the Vatican is anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian (as he says it should be). It follows, therefore, that "the Jews" had to get even with the Catholic Church, while at the same time deflecting attention away from Israeli injustices against the Palestinians. The Jews managed to do this by arranging for the media—which he says they control—to give disproportionate attention on the Vatican sex scandal.
Listen to Rodriguez Maradiaga's own words:

Unfortunately, I am not on the "inside" of this issue, so permit me to make some personal observations.
Whomever the next Pope will be, it will be someone that will carry on in the tradition of John Paul II and Benedict XVI. I know that MANY people hate our current pope for being so analytical, but he has been a champion defender of the family, etc. His only downside is that he followed John Paul II and we have all experienced a job where we, ourselves, took after someone very well liked.
My opinion is that they are likely to return to an Italian pope. If they venture outside, they may go with someone from Africa as that is the continent with the fastest growing Catholic population (Latin America is already 99% Catholic).
The media absolutely possess no clue as to what is going on. Shepherd Smith on Fox said that most Catholics were more forward thinking and advanced than the Vatican, as if the Church were a simple democracy. Other journalists here in Michigan lamented that this would be the "first time" that Michigan did not have a cardinal representing us in the voting as if, somehow, Michigan -- or even the United States -- makes a difference.
In the end, the Holy Spirit elects the pope and, last I checked, no humans understand how God moves... :o)

Debbie and RJ - exactly right, all we can do is wait and see, but the media as usual is ignorant beyond words about the whole thing. I'm surprised they are not promoting BHO for pope they like him so much, or maybe Chrissy Matthews as he pretends to be a Catholic, or better yet Caroline Kennedy who has the 'virtue (in their eyes) of being both a woman and a Kennedy. As I said they haven't a clue.

@Susan,
That's because the MSM hears the word "election" and immediately think that they possess (good choice of word! :o) ) a role in the outcome.
The Church was electing popes for 1,600+ years before there was even a printing press to create journalists and, yet, they think solely of today...

If Maradiaga is elected Pope it will drive Catholic/Jewish relations back to the 1940's. It was John XXIII (May G-d Rest His Soul) who opened up a dialog with the Jewish community and Vatican II that apologized for the last 2000 years.
Maradiaga will only bring the church back to the hatred and bigotry. Many were apprehensive with Benedict XVI as he was a Hitler Youth when he was a child, but he did alleviate our fears.
Dolan would make a wonderful Pope. He is a humble man.

@MTT,
I would not go there. Pinchas Lapide, Israeli consul to the Holy See, estimated that ~860,000 Jews were saved by the Catholic Church, outnumbering efforts by all other nations combined.
The Pope also encouraged the overthrow of Hitler and encouraged the German resistance.
It must be remembered that the Vatican was a neutral country during WWII surrounded by Fascist Italy (itself eventually controlled by Nazi Germany), there was little the Pope could do in public.
As for the Jews; if your concern was that Pope Benedict was once a member of the Hitler Youth, what about all the Jews who were socialists? The CIA leadership stalled assistance for Israel because many of its citizens (and, ostensibly, leaders) came from communist countries and endorsed socialism and communism.
Excessive placating the Jews is just as bad as going overboard regarding relations with the Muslims -- who, by the way, outnumber Jews by 100 to 1.
