Federal appeals court ruling may force California prisons to hire witches

A full-time Wiccan chaplain for TWO female inmates??? I thought California was broke, I thought criminals were going to be released into the streets?  No?

California taxpayers, who already pay for prison chaplains covering such faiths as Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Protestant and American Indian religions, might have to add witches to the list.

A lawsuit working its way through the federal court system would require state prisons to hire Wiccan chaplains. Two female convicts who practice Wicca sued the state for refusing to hire a paid full-time Wiccan chaplain and “by failing to apply neutral criteria in determining whether paid chaplaincy positions are necessary to meet the religious exercise needs of inmates adhering to religions outside the five faiths (Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Native American and Protestant),” according to an appellate court’s decision.

A federal court in Fresno, Calif., dismissed the lawsuit in 2011 after finding no violations in the women’s rights, but the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals brought it back to life this week by overturning the trial court’s decision. The San Francisco-based appellate court ordered the original judge to reconsider the case and determine whether state prisons unconstitutionally cater to majority religions, Judicial Watch reports.  (continue at Washington Times, hat tip Marcus Wilder)

U.S. giving an additional $60 million to Syrian 'rebels' (and more insanity)

I thought we were broke.  I thought we were heading toward sequestration where children and old folks will die of starvation; where police and firefighters will be out of work;  where children will have no teachers, preschool, headstart;  and zombies will be roaming the streets.  No?  But we have an extra $60 million to give to Syrians when we don't even know who the good guys (assuming there are some) are?

This most recent waste of U.S. tax dollars was announced by our new a-fluent Secretary of State who thinks the greatest threat to America's freedom and safety is climate change.

How did we get to this point? Half of America seems to have lost their minds.

Chuck Hagel is now moving into his office as the new Secretary of Defense, with the largest number of opposition votes of anyone to ever win confirmation to lead the Pentagon.  No doubt he will side with Iran over Israel in all matters.

The Pentagon has been fudging the numbers on reported Taliban attacks.  They reported that Taliban attacks were down, not true, they were actually up.  We are not safer now than we were then.

At least one journalist is pulling back the veil on the White House and sharing what they really say behind the scenes.  Seems he may have been threatened by one White House employee for speaking the truth.  (Of course Bob Woodward does have a new book and all this publicity won't hurt sales.)  Via Drudge:

American Student Punished For Refusing To Recite Mexican Pledge Of Allegiance…

A Texas high school student has filed a federal lawsuit against her school and her teachers after she was punished for refusing to salute and recite the Mexican pledge of allegiance.

The Thomas More Law Center filed the suit on behalf of Brenda Brinsdon alleging the McAllen Independent School District violated the 15-year-old girl’s constitutional rights when she was forced to recite the Mexican pledge and sing the Mexican national anthem.

Brinsdon, who is the daughter of a Mexican immigrant and an American father, refused. She believed it was un-American to pledge a loyalty oath to another country.

Ironically, the school district has a policy that prohibits a school from compelling students to recite the American Pledge of Allegiance.

The district also has a written policy that excuses students from reciting text from the Declaration of Independence if the student “as determined by the district, has a conscientious objection to the recitation.”

“There is a sad trend in public schools across our nation to undermine American patriotism,” said Richard Thompson president of the Thomas More Law Center. “But it’s encouraging to see students like Brenda stand up for America despite pressure from school officials.”

The TMLC told Fox News the district ignored its own rules when Brinsdon refused to recite the pledge of a foreign country.

What’s most troubling is the different treatment for someone wanting to opt out of reciting the American Pledge of Allegiance compared to someone as a matter of conscience wants to opt out of reciting the Mexican pledge,” spokesman Erin Mersino told Fox News.  (continue reading at Fox News Racio)

Of What Price, Heaven? Encountering God Within a Highly Secularized Society

Moving and inspirational only begins to describe the book, Of What Price, Heaven?: Encountering God Within a Highly Secularized Society, by R.J. Godlewski.  The book is dedicated to his late wife, Sara, who died of cancer on December 13, 2003.  Godlewski begins by sharing their story of love and faith, illness and loss, then leads the reader into the greater discussion of religious faith from the personal, to public, to organized, to political.

 

There is a great misconception within the world that suggests that "social justice", in the modern, liberal political definition, remains a gateway to Heaven.  (pg 150)

 

The above quote comes from the chapter on Free Will as it pertains to an individuals God given right to either choose God or to reject Him, to accept or reject God's gift of eternal life with God in Heaven.  Free will has forever been a topic for debate among humans and this chapter will be valuable to all who read it.

 

Liberty - and true joy - as Ronald Reagan once implied, evades us once we give up on God.  For without God, there can be no life, no liberty, and no pursuit of happiness.  Only sorrow and subjugation to the state - the antithesis of God and faith.  (pg. 64)

 

 The above quote builds upon the beginning of chapter 4, titled The Singular Issue.

 

In modern political circles, it seems sacrilegious to represent oneself as a single-issue voter.  We have those who are, for instance, pro-abortion, pro-gun control, pro-immigration, etc. squared off against those who are pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, and support strong and secured borders.  To choose any of these issues to concentrate upon quickly finds the citizen the brunt of seditious political attack.  That said, can there be a singular, omnipotent issue from which all other public concerns arise?  Certainly:  human life.  (pg 57)

 

As I hope you can see, this book could not be more timely considering the current political atmosphere, the battle against political correctness and government intrusion on our personal lives and freedoms, most importantly religious freedom.

Iran developing second path to nuclear weapons capability

By operating a plant that could produce plutonium, Iran produces a Plan B toward nuclear weapons capability, satellite images show for the first time.

The Telegraph can disclose details of activity at a heavily-guarded Iranian facility from which international inspectors have been barred for 18 months.

The images, taken earlier this month, show that Iran has activated the Arak heavy-water production plant.

Heavy water is needed to operate a nuclear reactor that can produce plutonium, which could then be used to make a bomb.

Speaking on a conference panel in Palm Springs over the weekend, investment adviser and New York Times bestselling author John Mauldin relayed a story from a dinner he had with John Boehner during the debt-ceiling crisis. 

According to Mauldin, he told Boehner it was “too bad” he had to work with Harry Reid to forge a deal on the debt ceiling, to which Boehner responded, “Harry?! Harry ain’t the problem. It’s Obama.
