**Must See Movie**
Lone Survivor the movie is based on the June 28, 2005 mission "Operation Red Wings", where four members of SEAL Team 10 were sent on the mission to capture or kill notorious Taliban leader Ahmad Shahd. The movie, Lone Survivor, which is based on the book by the same name by Marcus Luttrell, is a must see. I'm not alone in my opinion. Just look at the box office numbers:
Marcus Luttrell was part of a four man sniper team sent to Afghanistan in a remote area near the Pakistan border, to find, track, and collect intelligence on a high-ranking Taliban leader with close ties to Osama Bin Laden. A group of goat herders happen upon the team and a decision must be made -- kill the goat herders, or let them go and risk them talking to the Taliban.
The decision the team made was based on fear, not fear of the Taliban, but fear of the liberal media back home. The decision to let the goat herders go was based on the present Rules of Engagement, and resulted in the deaths of three Seals, and the deaths of others who attempted to rescue these brave men.- See more at: http://righttruth.typepad.com/right_truth/2007/07/lone-survivor-s.html#sthash.v8GNt0qV.dpuf
The patriotic-themed film is doing so well that box office now insiders now believe it could earn $28 million to $30 million for the weekend, far more than expected and easily enough to topple Frozen, The Wolf of Wall Street and other films.
Lone Survivor took in $1.54 million Thursday to top the box office chart, compared to $1.46 million for The Wolf of Wall Street,... (The Hollywood Reporter)
Hubby and I saw the movie Lone Survivor today. When the movie was over I asked him what he thought. His answer was, "it makes you mad". Yes indeed. The movie should make any American mad at the conditions under which our brave military men are fighting. Everyone who saw the movie left with a look of reverence on their faces. The theatre was silent and the images of those who gave all scrolled on the screen after the movie was finished.
Go see it. Here is a short trailer:
You may remember reading that in April 2009 Marcus Luttrell's service dog DASY was shot and killed by a group of thugs outside his home. In 2011 two of the perpetrators were sentenced to prison.
DASY given to Luttrell by friends to help him cope with the emotional and physical injuries he sustained while fighting in both the Iraq and Afghanistan theaters as a Navy Seal. She was by his side in Texas for four years.
Her name is an acronym of the initials of Luttrell’s team members who were killed in the firefight he described in “Lone Survivor.” [Danny Dietz, Matthew "Axe" Axelson, Southern boy (Marcus), and Michael "Yankee" Murphy] (The Blaze)
As to Marcus Luttrell, if you are wondering how he is and what he is up to after this horrific experience...
In 2010, Luttrell established the Lone Survivor Foundation. Headquartered in Houston, Texas the foundation's mission is to "...restore, empower, and renew hope for our wounded warriors and their families through health, wellness, and therapeutic support." The vision is to "...provide exceptional therapeutic, outdoor, and unique opportunities that optimize recovery and healing of affected American wounded service members and their families.
Marcus Luttrell and The Lone Survivor Foundation have partnered with The Boot Campaign to help show tangible appreciation of America’s active duty military, raise awareness of the challenges they face upon return, and support the transition home. (Wikipedia)
