If the September 11, 2001 attacks in
New York City and Washington did not irreparably alter American society
forever, then the April 15, 2013 attack in Boston certainly did. Or should
have. Americans, despite several early conflicts and a brutal civil war, have
always fashioned themselves as a patriotic people fighting wars continuously
“other there…” Sadly, those belligerents “other there” are now here, amongst us, and plotting for our
destruction. They appear normal, even friendly, but beneath their outward presence
lurks an absolute evil that turns onetime babysitters into baby killers.
Today, many – if not most –
Americans are coming to terms with Islamic radicalism exhibited within Chechnya
and surrounding regions as if a relatively modern phenomenon. Sadly, such
conflicts have raged within the Caucuses since at least the early 19th
century. The region “took a more formidable development when Moslem fanaticism,
awakened by the sectarian professors of Mirditism, embodied itself in Schamyl,
the soldier priest, who gave to these rival races religious unity…”[1] Yossef Bodansky, writing in the first decade
of the 21st century, would characterize this as “Chechenization…the
profound transformation of a predominantly Muslim society from its traditional,
largely pre-Islamic structure to one dominated by Islamist-Jihadist elements
that historically have been alien to that society.”[2]
Nor can we leave this prospect with Chechnya, for the jihadists declared the
willingness to “write several bloody chapters in the new history, even if
[they] have to destroy everything on Earth in the process”.[3]
Such a war has now thrust itself
upon American shores and our great republic will never be the same. For years,
I have done my best to awaken the American people to the realities of this war,
even predating the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City.[4]My
book, Mini-Manual
of the Independent Counterterrorist, has now reached a second edition
and can be purchased for less than the cost of a McDonald’s lunch. Yet, the
implications remain extraordinary. The great citizens of this nation must assume personal responsibility for
protecting our communities. I cannot help but wonder what would have
happened on last Monday if “someone” had noticed a backpack being dropped next
to several children. The reason that America does not represent a police state
is because “We the People” have declared to the world that we are sufficiently
responsible enough to protect ourselves.
Instead, America has trended towards
a country where many expect the government to solve all our problems from
educating our children through creating jobs and finally apprehending
terrorists. A nation of ~316,668,567[5]individuals
expects to remain adequately
protected by a measly 800,000 federal, state, and municipal law enforcement personnel.
That is at least 395 Americans for every police officer in the country to
serve. Just two individuals – one of
which represented a naturalized citizen – killed a police officer from the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology. What would have happened had dozens of
armed and trained Americans been able to lend immediate aid to the officer? We
shall never know because a recalcitrant electorate has permitted a progressive
government to forestall this possibility.
The new “Boston massacre” occurred
simply because evil exists. There are
people amongst us today – perhaps even right next to you at this particular
moment – that care less about innocent human life than you care about the weeds
growing in your driveway. They will murder innocent children, maim others, and then go entertain themselves as if
merely returning home from the office on a Friday afternoon. They do not exist
because the police have not stopped them. They exist because you have not stopped them. Innocence, in
the 21st century with at least
a century’s worth of Islamic jihadist history against the rest of the world,
remains utter nonsense. Freedom bears a price and liberty demands vigilance.
Otherwise, we simply remain sheep fattened for the slaughter.
