Patrick O’Donnell’s Plain Dealer articles of April 17 and 20, regarding Common Core, stated that our educators were surprised that Common Core tests were tough. Why did these people in positions of trust accept the new curriculum before evaluating the complete package and its potential damage? The payoffs far outweighed all other considerations, including the children’s maturity levels and welfare.
Despite the Constitution’s Tenth Amendment that prohibits a federally controlled education system, President Obama's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (stimulus package) bribed cash-strapped states with $4.35 Billion, Bill Gates Foundation added $200 million more, and states (Ohio: $10 million) will be heavily taxed to cover operational costs of this program that spells disaster.
Gates and “research company,” Achieve, Inc., selected non-academic people to design the standards, excluding educators, parents, and professionals in the disciplines. A 24-member team headed by David Coleman, who also lacks experience with English instruction, signed a non-disclosure agreement, keeping parents and school boards entirely in the dark. And the standards, although accepted, violated three federal laws – Elementary and Secondary Education Act (1965), General Education Provisions Act, and Department of Education Organization Act.
Common Core mandates prohibit teachers from lecturing for more than 15 minutes per day per subject! This “Type #2” agenda is student-centered learning, where the teacher is reduced to facilitator, unable to provide history, purpose, and background for comprehension. How does one grasp a Constitutional Amendment without its foundation and purpose – or find the essence of a speech without the events that inspired it? America’s founding, exceptionalism and achievements are de-emphasized; Islam is whitewashed and accentuated in great detail.
The program is designed to close the education gap by reducing expectations, and emphasizing skills over literary or cultural knowledge. Their perception of college readiness is not academic preparation but abundant test taking that take time from learning, creativity, and encouraging imagination. Great literature and fiction are sacrificed for new sexualized novels that emphasize social activism. Fifty percent of the reading material comprises informational texts and instructional manuals that discourage reading.
Note the test material given for Test I, Grade 3, deals with trickery, disappointment, feelings, social engineering – not resourcefulness, achievement, success. Test 3, Grade 11, deals with aloneness, divisiveness, social issues, and the errors in word usage and punctuation confirm the carelessness that also permeates the history books. Imagine being tested about the Declaration of Independence and speech by Patrick Henry before disambiguating, studying and analyzing them. A brief video would be valueless.
English and Math courses contain social concerns. Students are being taught what to think – that America is a nation of bigots, poverty-creating capitalists, intolerant war-mongering imperialists, anti-immigrants; and segregating, discriminating, disenfranchising racists; and that they should want big government that relies on redistribution of wealth, globalization, etc. Key concepts of America are negative or openly hostile.
The math places students more than two years behind their international peers by eighth grade. High school students will have to pass college exams on faulty information. Reform math is fracturing our society – teachers cannot help the parents who cannot help the children with homework, leading to frustration and anger, and the children are losing interest in school. Our Education Establishment is alienating them from learning.
Highly degreed and qualified professionals, Dr. Sandra Stotsky (developed one of the country's strongest sets of academic standards for K-12 students and the strongest academic standards and licensure tests for prospective teachers), Stanford University professor Dr. James Milgram and New York University professor Jonathan Goodman refused to sign off on Common Core, citing the damage to education posed by its methods.
Microsoft and Achieve’s State Longitudinal Database System, will capture, analyze, and use students’ personal and confidential data from preschool through employment. Through “functional magnetic resonance imaging,” “skin-sensitive equipment” and “cameras that judge facial expressions and posture, data about student frustration, motivation, confidence, boredom and fatigue, plus private family statistics” will be available for workforce development in this German model system..
Pearson publishers are responsible for the textbooks and tests, apps, international media, business information, and more, although their books are shoddily assembled and written. Most notable are the history textbooks that present history out of time context, a smokescreen for what has intentionally been excluded. Our high school students are being brainwashed so that they will be intellectually incapable of dealing with the subversive threat to our country coming from the Muslim Brotherhood and its supporters in the American Islamic community.
Today’s students will be tomorrow’s teachers and leaders, obedient to the state, robbed of their freedom to thrive. Common Core is destructive and it is up to the parents to recapture our educational system from the grip of the current administration.
CNN) -- A Boko Haram video emerged Monday purportedly showing some of the kidnapped Nigerian girls in Muslim headdresses and the terror group's leader declaring they have converted to Islam.
The video, released by French news agency Agence France-Presse, was shot in a nondescript bush area and showed about 100 girls.
In the 27-minute footage, the terror group's leader, Abubakar Shekau, says he is willing to exchange the schoolgirls for Boko Haram prisoners.
It shows girls dressed in black and gray hijabs, and reciting the Quran as they make Islamic declarations of faith. Shekau appears in a separate part of the video, but never with the girls. (continue at CNN, read the comments also)
The few muslim girls in the group were let go, the Christian girls were kept and 'forced' to convert to islam. One girl made a mad dash to freedom and managed to escape. Her story and more details of the capture here. Video .
Obama isn't concerned with Christians, adults or children, around the world, especially in muslim countries where they suffer persecution every day, churches destroyed, people killed.
The Center for Reproductive Rights, a non-governmental organization that advocates for legalized abortion, is urging the United Nations Committee Against Torture to tell the Catholic Church that “the freedom of speech and of religion” do not give the church the right to advocate against abortion.
When the committee met in Geneva on Monday for a hearing on the Vatican’s compliance with the Convention Against Torture, Vice Chairperson Felice Gaer, an American, said in her opening statement that laws that ban all abortion—which is the position of the Catholic Church–may violate the convention. She also repeated verbatim some language that had been in a letter the CRR had sent to the committee on April 11.
Gaer, however, did not quote the section in CRR’s letter that urged the committee to tell the church that the freedoms of religion and speech did not give the church a right to advocate against abortion.
CRR’s letter included several recommendations for how the Committee Against Torture should deal with Catholicism.
For anyone who is unclear about the movie, America's Biggest SERIAL KILLER - Gosnell - The Doctor Who Is S-I-N, read THIS. We want this movie made, we want the truth of how he murdered innocent babies, babies born alive. This case is about a doctor who killed babies ... What we mean is that he regularly and illegally delivered live, viable, babies in the third trimester of pregnancy – and then murdered these newborns by severing their spinal cords with scissors ....
Via email from filmmakers Phelim McAleer, Magdalena Segieda, and Ann McElhinney :
We wanted to let you know about the latest Hollywood celebrity who has come out in support of the Gosnell Movie. Nick Searcy who plays Art Mullen in FX's TV series Justified has recorded a video about why it's important that the Gosnell Movie gets made.
As you know many in Hollywood don't want this film made but there is also a growing demand from others in Hollywood that the truth be told about Kermit Gosnell, a Philadelphia abortion doctor who killed thousands of live, viable babies in a 40 year killing spree.
It comes after Kevin Sorbo, the star of TV's Hercules and the recent box office hit God's Not Dead, came out in support of the Gosnell Movie. Along with his wife Sam, also an actor, he recorded this video:
Nick Searcy has had a long and varied acting career from TV shows such as Boston Legal, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and The West Wing and movies such as the Fugitive and Castaway.
It comes after Kevin Sorbo, the star of TV's Hercules and the recent box office hit God's Not Dead, came out in support of the Gosnell Movie. Along with his wife Sam, also an actor, he recorded this video:
Don't forget with crowdfunding you can give as little as a dollar - you will be joining the 9,000 people who have already donated and cast their vote for the truth to be told about the crimes of Kermit Gosnell.
A film is coming your way called The J Street Challenge. If you don't see it coming your way, say or do something menacing to your pastor, rabbi, or librarian to insist that it be shown.
A production of Americans for Peace and Tolerance, with APT's Charles Jacobs as special consultant; produced, directed and written by Avi Goldwasser and Ilya Feoktistov, The J Street Challenge lines up a phalanx of illustrious academics and activists to expose the deception, the lies, and the anti-Israel animus behind J Street. But the film is not a snooze-parade of talking heads; ideas—important ideas—are supplemented with illustrations, maps, videos, and images both heartwarming and heartbreaking.
The film opens with shots of terrorism against Israel, and then, a veritable deus ex machina, breaking through the tumult, from on-high comes the voice of Jeremy Ben-Ami, president of J Street, crying, "We want this conflict to end!"
Well, that certainly gets your attention. Who doesn't want the conflict to end? But Ben-Ami knows the way. Ben-Ami and others, including George Soros, founded J Street in 2008, to (according to their website) "provide a home for pro-Israel, pro-peace Americans who believe that a 'two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is essential to Israel's survival as the national home of the Jewish people and as a vibrant democracy.'"
"The majority of the people on all sides," he says in the film, "share a desire for a peaceful world for their kids and their grandchildren. They want to figure out how to compromise in order to live together in peace."
He's slick, no doubt about it; but can he really be preaching to the Jewish people about peace? Harvard professor Ruth Wisse retorts, "One of the most seductive messages to the Jewish people, for the last two centuries at least, has been the message of peace." And she puts "the conflict" in perspective:
There is no such thing as an Arab-Israeli conflict. There is an Arab war against Israel. There is an Arab war against the Jewish people's right to a state. It is the conflict of over twenty countries, with an enormity of land, more land than they know what to do with, that refuse to allow one people its sliver of land.
Ben-Ami, however, wants a slice of that sliver. A piece for a peace. "Israel's long-term security depends on fulfilling the aspirations of the Palestinian people for a two-state solution," he says. And further:
The Adult Catholic Education program, held recently at a local Catholic parish hall, was entitled, “Under Abraham’s Tent: Jews, Christians, and Muslims in the World Today.” The evening, designed to “foster peaceful relationships” of three religions through their shared patriarch, Abraham, attracted about 200 guests.
The first speaker, Rabbi “J,” related the story of Abram, who smashed all but one of his father’s idols, leaving a hammer in the hand of the largest. When his father, Terach the idol carver, returned to the store and saw the damage, Abram alibied that a war had ensued among the gods, and the largest idol won. Terach scoffed, saying, “The idols have no life or power,” to which Abram responded, “Then why do you worship them?”
Thus did Abram show the folly of idol worship and introduce the belief of monotheism into civilization. “J” further explained that the Jews, through Moses, were also the first to bring laws of morality and humanity to humankind, the rules by which civilizations have prospered since. Regrettably, she did not offer a definition of Judaism, the role of Jews in world history, or the significance of Israel to the Jewish people.
Although Jews had resided in Egypt, Iraq, Iran, and Mesopotamia, and despite their persecution through the centuries, they nevertheless did not declare these lands as theirs. She might have dismantled the accusation that Jews are colonialists, had she noted the Jewish claim to the land has very specific boundaries set forth in the ancient Torah – the same boundaries established by the League of Nations in 1920, and again by the United Nations in 1948.
I was pleased to hear from Shannon Smith, executive director of Wyoming Humanities Council, but disappointed to learn that she disagreed. When people disagree with facts, it means they cannot abide information that conflicts with their belief system. Did she not grasp that our world is afire? that our World Trade Center was bombed and 3,000 citizens killed? that Christians are being slaughtered in Africa and Asia? that Jews are fleeing Europe again? that Sweden and Norway have been called the rape capitals of the world? that the violence occurring around the globe is caused by one group and one group only?
The books gifted by the Muslim Journeymen were described as containing “history, faith, and Muslim culture around the world.” Islamic history, antithetical to all we believe and trust, is severely misrepresented in their accounts. They do not divulge their 1400-year history of violence, slavery, destruction of 270 million people and their cultures, the permanent land grabs, and the forced imposition of Islamic ideology to 1.3 billion people. They do not disclose their cruel Islamic law, Shari’a, and its incompatibility with our heritage and Constitution. Our God is not their God; our Torah and Bible are not their Qur’an, of which eighty percent deals with killing the infidels. The adherents will not live harmoniously with other nations and ideologies and they are a danger to all humanity. Their literature warrants inspection.
Of the five novels the libraries received, Smith and her staff read Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi, and admitted it was disturbing. So was In the Country of Men, by Hisham Matar. Both are stories of a desolate future and inappropriate, vulgar material. In the former, Marjane lives in Iran, a country in transition from secular to Islamic religious extremism; in the latter, nine-year-old Suleiman lives a frightening life in despotic Libya. Both books deal with issues of repression; abandonment and neglect; explicit sexuality and drugs; both have unsavory characters, and deal with issues of unhappiness, anxiety, martyrdom and death, and “life is pain.” These are very different from the decent, moral literature that produced the people who created our great nation.
She was against it before she was for it according to Texas Democrat Party candidate for governor “Windy” Wendy Davis. What rocketed her to fame (with a little help from a compliant media and busloads of supporters from outside Texas), was her filibuster in Austin last summer to oppose an abortion bill. This bill (later passed) bans abortions AFTER 20 weeks and requires doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital. Just why the latter was not already a law, I don’t understand – abortions have always carried the potential for some sort of medical emergency that would endanger the life of the woman involved.
So it was most amusing to discover that the February 11th edition of The Dallas Morning News carried a story (by a left-wing journalist) that Wendy Davis now backs a ban on abortion after 20-weeks. Really? Really? Shades of John Kerry (aka “Mr. Flip-Flop,” aka “Mr. Heinz-Kerry,” aka “the only American gigolo to become a Secretary of State”) – he is best known though for being for something before he was against it. Of course Ms. Davis finessed her statement with a caveat that it is up to the woman and her doctor.
So let me get this straight – according to Wendy Davis it is okay to have an abortion if the woman who is already five months pregnant finds some compelling reason to do so and her (abortion) doctor thinks she should do it. Tell me, what doctor who performs abortions would not find it okay? He might get cold feet because of fears of medical complications, but he might also get cold feet if the child is carried to term and has any “defect.” Not exactly a hard scientific decision, it is rather a soft decision based on his fears and emotions – fears that are probably based on his being sued if he does, or if he does not. Also he may not get paid anything if there is no abortion. Yet Wendy Davis is promoting this as a detached, intellectual or compassionate (take your pick) decision on the part of the doctor. It is not, it is far more probably that his decision will be based on calculated risk to his own bottom line and/or well-being.
Shortly after she was exposed by The Dallas Morning News for lying about her background, marrying a sugar daddy, leaving Texas to attend Harvard Law School (at the sugar daddy’s expense), and losing custody of her two children (one of them not his), she claimed that her opponent Greg Abbott had not walked her shoes. No, he has not. Nor has he walked in his own for the last 30 or so years since he was paralyzed at the age of 26 and has been in a wheelchair ever since.
But it gets better. It seems that Ms. Davis was at one time a Republican (and I'm not talking about someone who changed allegiance in their 20s), and has been renting a luxury apartment in Austin using campaign money. There is nothing illegal about the latter according to Texas law, but considering the state of the economy just now (thanks to the Democrat Party) it is just a little tacky. One cannot make this stuff up.
It seems that nearly every time “Windy” Davis opens her mouth she digs herself a little deeper into a hole. And this is the Democrat Party’s hope for taking Texas. I hope they keep her on, right through the election in November. She is always so entertaining.
Blake Smith, 58, of Bakersfield, California, is an ex-gay. In a New York Times article in late 2012, he said that for most of his life, "every inch of my body craved male sexual contact."
However, after Smith entered into reparative counseling, including weekend retreats called "People Can Change" and "Journey into Manhood," he said his "homosexual feelings have nearly vanished." At that point, married for eight years, he said, "In my 50s, for the first time, I can look at a woman and say, 'She's really hot!'"
The internet is replete with testimonials like Smith's, at websites such as NARTH (National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality), PeopleCanChange, Liberty Counseling and Recovery, and JONAH (Jews Offering New Alternatives to Homosexuality). As to the last-mentioned, followers of American Thinker will have read here last week that tiny JONAH is being sued by a big, fat, rich whale, the Southern Poverty Law Center, for "consumer fraud."
The bullies at the Southern Poverty Law Center are merely reflecting the standard liberal trope: Murderers, rapists, and other criminals are formed by society and can be helped by psychiatric treatment; but gay men and women are born as homosexuals and are therefore expected to live their lives as homosexuals, whether they like it or not.
This cruel philosophy is reflected in the California state law, signed by Gov. Jerry Brown in 2012, which forbids counselors and therapists from addressing unwanted same-sex attraction. Last summer, Governor Chris Christie saw fit to imitate California, making New Jersey the second state with such a law, prohibiting therapists from assisting minors with "sexual orientation change efforts."
And just last week, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals refused to re-hear a challenge to the California law, thus denying therapists their First Amendment freedom to speak about healing painful unwanted same-sex attraction. One of the dissenting judges said, "The Supreme Court has chastened us lower courts for creating, out of whole cloth, new categories of speech to which the First Amendment does not apply. But that is exactly what the panel's opinion accomplishes in this case."
Mat Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel, one of the petitioners, said, "The minors we represent do not want to act on same-sex attractions, nor do they want to engage in such behavior. They are greatly benefiting from this counseling. Their grades have gone up, their self-esteem has improved, and their relationships at home are much improved." (WorldNetDaily)
"Legislators and judges," he continued, "have essentially barged into the private therapy rooms of victimized young people and told them that their confusion, caused by the likes of a Jerry Sandusky abuser, is normal and that they should pursue their unwanted and dangerous same-sex attractions and behavior."
Therapists in New Jersey have also challenged the New Jersey law. A federal district court having upheld the law, the challengers have appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals. They are joined by two interested parties:
Agudath Israel of America, an Orthodox Jewish advocacy organization, and Nefesh, an international association of Orthodox Jewish mental health,, have filed an amicus curiae (friend of the court) brief, arguing that the law violates the constitutional free speech rights of both therapists and minors seeking counseling.
The brief notes that while New Jersey finds it perfectly acceptable for minors over 14 years of age to check themselves into and out of psychiatric hospitals where they can be given powerful psychotropic medications, the state deems them incapable of deciding to seek the help of a licensed therapist to reduce or eliminate unwanted sexual orientation, behavior, or identity. New Jersey has effectively decreed that the decision to seek help of that nature is per se harmful to that minor, despite substantial evidence to the contrary. (Agudath Israel of America newsletter)
One can only wish them luck in this Sisyphian task. With state legislatures, the media, schools and colleges, and to a growing extent, churches and synagogues all happily accepting, and often furthering, the rainbow agenda, this will be a hard one to win—hard for the litigants and hard for the young people trapped in an unwanted lifestyle.
