Comics are everywhere these days, the movies, in publications like The New Yorker, and now Barack Obama and John McCain have their own comics.   From Wired:

Punisher: War Zone

Irish he-man Ray Stevenson replaces Thomas Jane to play vengeful but virtuous vigilante Frank Castle in this sequel. His target? The demonic Jigsaw (Dominic West of TV's The Wire).
Secret weapon: German director Lexi Alexander, formerly an actress who toured with the Mortal Kombat traveling show, proved her rock'em-sock'em mettle by making the soccer movie, Hooligans.

The Spirit

Samuel Jackson (as The Octopus) and Scarlett Johansson (pictured, as Silken Floss) appear in this adaptation of Will Eisner's classic noir-meets-supernatural graphic novel, with Gabriel Macht starring as the title character. But the real star is graphic novelist-turned-filmmaker Frank Miller (300, Sin City). Miller had the good sense to bring Eva Mendes on board to play the Spirit's sultry ex-flame, Sand Saref.
Secret weapon: Cinematographer Bill Pope knows how to frame action scenes, having previously shot Spider-Man 3 and the Matrix sequels.

From Wake Up America: John McCain, Barack Obama Star in Biographical Comic Books

IDW Publishing will be publishing two comic books, 28 pages each, showing the biography of both presumptive presidential candidates, John McCain and Barack Obama.

The two biographical comic books will go on sale October 1, 2008 in comic book stores around the nation and will be available at nationwide, and will be available at presidentialcomics.com.  [snip]

Now Vanity Fair has come up with a McCain cover, which in my opinion is no rival at all for the New Yorker cover  of Obama.

  Vanity Fair ... posted a cartoon on its website featuring John McCain holding a walker with one hand and giving the fist bump to a pill-popping (well pill-holding) Cindy McCain. The Constitution burns in the fireplace of the Oval Office while a painting of George W. Bush hangs on the wall.

Target Practice -- the movie

Five friends on a fishing trip ... A hidden training camp for terrorists.  That my friends is the premise of the movie  "Target Practice".  (click images to enlarge)

This Friday, July 25, the feature "Target Practice," will have the distinction of premiering at 2 high-profile film festivals in the L.A. area on the same night:  the 11th Annual Dances With Films Independent Film Festival (DWF)  and the 4th Annual Action On Film International Film Festival (AOF).

“TARGET PRACTICE” has been nominated for 3 AOF Awards:  Action Film Of The Year, Best Action Sequence Feature, and Best Special Effects Feature.  The film is an intense thriller concerning 5 friends on a weekend fishing trip who inadvertently uncover a hidden training camp for homegrown terrorists (molded after real-life recent discoveries in both the U.S. and Canada).

This sounds like a magnificent film and I hope it does well.  I'm not in California, so I won't be able to see the film.   I would LOVE for this film to hit major theaters around the country.

Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan) Spokesman for Veterans Group

Gary Sinise, who played the part of Lt. Dan in the movie "Forrest Gump", has agreed to be spokesman for the Disabled Veterans for Life Memorial Foundation. source

"I am deeply moved to have been asked to participate in this absolutely necessary memorial," Sinise said in a statement. "I can only hope that my participation will help draw attention to the cause and ensure its successful fruition as the nation's first and only such tribute built specifically to these courageous men and women."

The foundation is aiming to raise $65 million for the memorial, which former President Clinton authorized in 2000.

Broken Promises, the UN at 60, the Movie

The documentary movie, Broken Promises, the United Nations at Sixty, is now opening in select theaters.  You can go here and view the trailer, buy the DVD, or read about it.  The movie is narrated, executive produced, and segments directed by Ron Silver.  There are conservatives in Hollywood and it takes courage on their part to speak out.  I wish Mr. Silver good luck in his endeavor.
