Anders Behring Breivik, 32, dressed as a policeman or security guard, with sweater and insignia, has been arrested for the shooting of 92 people on the island of Utoya, where the youth-wing of Norway's left-leaning Labor Party was holding a retreat, with 700 individuals present. He is charged with two acts of terrorism.
The attack on the youth went on for between 30 minutes up to 2 hours, depending on individual eye-witness reports. Anders was reportedly the only person on the island with a gun or weapon of any kind. He called the youth to him and like sheep to the slaughter they gathered in a tight group in front of him, waiting to hear what the policeman had to share with them.
Anders Behring Breivik started shooting them, like fish in a barrel. It reportedly took the police swat team up to 2 hours to get boats, get to the island and start doing their job. Another reason for the high number of dead and injured is that the youth did just about everything wrong. When he started shooting, no one charged the shooter to try and stop or disarm him; the youth all ran forward in direct line of the gunman's bullets; some played possum, pretending to be dead, so he shot many a second time in the head to make sure they were dead. He was calm and collected.
...he did not exhibit the behaviour of a frenzied lunatic. Instead, he coldly beckoned his victims towards him and then, like an iron-willed executioner, systematically fired at them. (Mail Online)
This should be a lesson for us here in the United States, with visions of college campus shootings like Virginia Tech. Had some of the adults been armed they could have stopped the slaughter. The fact that no one else either had a gun or used a gun to try and stop Anders is unbelievable, since there are extremely liberal gun laws in Scandinavia, and that freedom to carry guns is now being partially blamed for the terror perpetrated by Anders, 'despite the prevalence of guns, there has never previously been a crime like this in Norway and even in wider Scandinavia such mass shootings are extremely rare'.
Is he responsible for the island shootings, 50 miles north of the capital, as well as the bombings on the Prime Minister’s office and an Oil Ministry building, which were originally reported to be coordinated attacks? Jawa Report says: 'An eye witness reports that he saw someone dressed up like a police officer get out of the car that would later explode. So, this means that the bomber and the shooter could be the same person.' Also, he was 'seen loitering around the site of the bomb blast in Oslo two hours before the island incident'. Finally he admitted he conducted both attacks alone.
The shooter's on-line writings bear little relationship to his actions which state he
opposes all "hate" ideologies among which he includes Islam, Nazism, and Communism. However, his internet footprint is very small, with Twitter and FaceBook accounts being brand new. The Facebook page could have been completely fake.
It also appears that someone added "Christian" and "Conservative" to his FaceBook information after the attacks. (screen shots here) The shooter is reported to be a reader of Gates of Vienna and Jihad Watch, as well as other Counter Jihad sites, but his reading was all over the map.
The Daily Mail bio states 'According to Swedish website Expo Anders Behring Breivik is a member of 'Nordisk' which has 22,000 members and focuses on political terrorism.' and describes him as ' a 'loner', who lived with his mother in a wealthy suburb of west Oslo, was well-educated and enjoyed hunting.'.
It appears he did have connections to a Swedish neo-Nazi forum, according to the Daily Mail: "It has emerged that the man at the centre of the attack is also a member of a Swedish Nazi forum which encourages attacks on government buildings." It would appear that his thoughts, loyalties and actions are all over the place.
He was a youth and adult member of the conservative Fremskrittspartiet (FrP) or Progress Party, VG newspaper reports, remaining involved until 2007. The party's most prominent manifesto pledge is to minimize immigration. (CNN)
We're told that Anders Behring Breivik left behind a detailed manifesto outlining his preparations and calling for a Christian civil war to defend Europe against the threat of Muslim domination, and yet he draws on the extreme right, the ideas of al Qaeda and other terrorist groups (which he admires) to describe and rationalize a plot which almost exactly matches his activities on July 22, 201, and further he identified with freemasonry, (see his image above, wearing the apron etc of the Freemasons) which would contradict the media claims of him being at Christian zealot.
Anders Behring Breivik in his manifesto referred to his planned killing as my martyrdom operation. (Download manifesto for now at least, at this link.) If he intended to be a martyr he apparently changed his mind as he quickly handed over his weapons to authorities when they arrived.
There are also claims that he belonged to the Knights Templar group, a medieval order created to protect Christian pilgrims in the Holy Land after the First Crusade. He also had a "hatred" of the modern institutional church. According to the New York Daily News, he liked some of the same movies and television shows that I do.
"He wanted a change in society and, from his perspective, he needed to force through a revolution," Lippestad, the lawyer, told public broadcaster NRK. "He wished to attack society and the structure of society."
Lippestad said Breivik spent years writing the 1,500-page manifesto entitled, "2083 - A European Declaration of Independence." It was signed "Andrew Berwick." The date was referred to later in the document as the year that coups d'etat would engulf Europe and overthrow the elite he maligns. (Breitbart)
It is interesting that a Muslim terror group took credit for the attacks, then apparently backed away from those claims but not before praising Anders Behring Breivik's actions. No matter what Anders true beliefs or motives were, and we may never really know, he achieved the same results as the Muslim terrorists desired. And there is indeed a militant Muslim presence in Oslo.
… Initial reports focused on the possibility of Islamic militants, in particular Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami, or Helpers of the Global Jihad, cited by some analysts as claiming responsibility for the attacks. American officials said the group was previously unknown and might not even exist. (NYTimes)
... First of all, over 90% of the terrorist attacks in the world are carried out by Muslims (making it reasonable to assume that when there's a terrorist attack Islamists are likely involved - yet keeping in mind that "not all Muslims are terrorists ... yet nearly all terrorists are Muslim"), there is a militant Muslim presence in Norway (Hyscience)
As Weasel Zippers notes, "No branch of Christianity calls for violence, contra Islam. The dominant left-stream media has been itching for a Western mass-murderer since 9-11 and every attack subsequent to it. Now they have a suspect with blond hair...", a vegetable farmer who purchased six tons of fertilizer. It should also be noted that '...Muslim isn't a race and Islamist extremists come in all colors'.
The media seems thrilled to report that he 'posted on Christian fundamentalist websites and reportedly held right-wing, anti-Muslim views' and 'was also once a member of the youth wing of a rightist party'. If this had been a Muslim, the media would fail to include any description of the man, hair color, skin color, religion, race, nation or origin, etc. But a 6 foot tall blond media-named Christian, with 'blue-green eyes and chiseled features, dressed in a preppy style', who owns three guns (a rifle, shotgun and hand gun), and belongs to gun clubs, ... that's the holy grail.
As Phyllic Chesler points out, "... Barry Rubin, writes that "There have been over 10,000 Islamist terrorist attacks, many of them against Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, and others. The number of such attacks against Muslims in the West or indeed in the world is perhaps one percent of that number.""
Jersey Nut notes '... what I think is worthy of note is how much the Norwegian establishment - the academics, the politicians, the media - turned toward the Islamic position in recent years, and embraced their anti-semitism under the thin guise of anti-Zionism.' We're told that Norwegians were shocked that this terror was committed by one of their own.
Two days before the terror attacks many of the youth that were on the Utoya island
camp had met with Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere and demanded he recognize Palestine.
Gahr Stoere told the youths that the Palestinians deserve a country of their own and that the occupation must end, Norwegian website Politisk reported. Several of the youths waved signs reading: "Boycott Israel." (YNET)
I condemn all acts of terror, no matter who quilty party is, what religion they claim or what excuse they use.
A post in Breivik's name on an online forum, Document.no, from December 2009, talks about non-Muslim teenagers being "in an especially precarious situation with regards to being harassed by Islamic youth."
"I know of many hundred occasions where non-Muslims have been robbed, beaten up and harassed by Islamic gangs," the post reads. "I had a best friend between the ages of 12-17 who was a Pakistani, so I was one of the many protected, cool 'potatoes' that had protection. But this also made me see the hypocrisy up close and personal and made me nauseous."
Another post in Breivik's name in October 2009 advises "Hans", described as the founder of Document.no, to "develop an alternative to the violent extreme Norwegian Marxist organisations Blitz, SOS Rasisme and Rod Ungdom" -- all left-wing movements in Norway.
"The conservatives dare not openly express their viewpoints in public because they know that the extreme Marxists will trump them. We cannot accept the fact that the Labour Party is subsidising these violent "Stoltenberg jugend", who are systematically terrorising the politically conservative," the post reads.
He is making a reference to the youth movement of Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, who heads the Labour Party. (CNN)
Is Anders Behring Breivik like Timothy McVeigh of Oklahoma City or Jarred Loughner in Arizona? Gates Of Vienna says:
... Oslo and Oklahoma City definitely have a lot in common in this regard.
But one thing many people seem to forget — and which they may never have known, thanks to the American government’s actions and the media spin that followed — is that there almost certainly was an Islamic terror connection to the Oklahoma City bombing. (more)
The Prime Minister said in a speech "no one shall bomb us into silence". The US President sent his condolences.
The media anxiously await for Anders Behring Breivik's motive. I'm not sure he even knows, but we are told he is cooperating with authorities.
According to Fox News, Anders Behring Breivik's attorney says he admits what he did was terrible, but states it had to be done. Who can truly know the mind of another human being?
The moral of the story is always be prepared, always have protection, trust no one, and look out for the crazies.
Updates as they are available.
UPDATES:
Breivik's father's home in Cournanel in southern France was raided early Monday morning as Breivik prepares for a closed court hearing in Oslo. Anders behring Breivik, who lived with his mother, has not seen his father, Jens Breivik, for 16 years, half of his lifetime. No word on the reason for the split between father and son.
The death toll was upgraded to 93 yesterday, but today has been re-adjusted to 76.
Breivik told judge Kim Heger that there were "two more cells in our organisation." There is no information to back up this claim or to indicate that these supposed cells were planning terror attacks.
Judge Kim Heger said Breivik will not be allowed visitors or letters.
