Norwegian anti-Islamic fanatic Anders Behring Breivik, on trial for massacring 77 people last July, said he spent "lots of time" playing Modern Warfare, a first-person shooting game, and also took an entire year off to play World of Warcraft, a multi-player role-playing game with more than 10 million subscribers, preparing for his attacks. (Yahoo News, hat tip R.J. Godlewski)
Man on a mission, paranoid schizophrenic, and/or media whore. The trial for Anders Behring Breivik, the confessed mass murderer, has started in Oslo.
There is no dispute that Anders Breivik killed 77 people last July, 56 of them coldly and efficiently with direct shots to the head. Indeed, he is proud of what he did, and has said, with a combination of smugness and defiance, that he wished he could have slaughtered more. The dispute which has arisen centres on his state of mind at the time he pulled the trigger. One psychiatric report declared that he was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia and was therefore not responsible for his actions; a later assessment came to the opposite conclusion, that he knew perfectly well what he was doing. Both opinions will be aired at the trial in Norway which started yesterday. (The Telegraph UK)
The trial against the confessed mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik has started in Oslo and will last until June 22, with a verdict expected at some point in July.
Professor Ole Gjems-Onstad is concerned that the mass murderer, who craves personal attention above else, has become a money machine and formed a symbiosis of sorts with newspapers, lawyers, publishing houses and others who make good money from his atrocities while turning him into the mega-celebrity he always wanted to be, instead of ridiculing him as the pathetic creature he is. He thinks the extensive list of ideological witnesses should have been cut, and that “The attempt to turn evil into politics is a diversion.”
Hans Rustad of Document.no was present in court as a journalist, along with his friend Christian Skaug. On the first day of the trial, he noted that Breivik seemed unmoved when his murders were mentioned. He clearly enjoys the spotlight, but otherwise seems strangely detached and cut off from reality, leaving “an impression of charade.” Rustad figured that his defense lawyers would have a hard time convincing the court that their client is perfectly sane, and did not quite seem convinced of this themselves. With his strange and enigmatic smile, like an evil version of Mona Lisa, Breivik left the impression of being a loose cannon on deck.
During the first day of the trial, the main person took to tears. The columnist Andreas Wiese and I don’t always see eye to eye, but in this case we do: Breivik’s world ends at the tip of his own surgically altered nose. He has so far shown no empathy whatsoever towards his victims, even when their parents or siblings sit a few meters from him and have to listen to how he killed their loved ones in cold blood.
When he cried as his propaganda video was shown in court, this was because he felt sorry for himself, not for others. That’s why it’s so ridiculous to hear the same mass media pretend that this has anything to do with ideology. It should be painfully obvious by now that Breivik does not care for anything greater than himself.
The farcical antics began long before today, however — we’ve been through a prodromal phase of several weeks during which the leftist mainstream media outlets (yes, I know that’s redundant) prepared and published their hit pieces on every writer, publication, and website they consider “xenophobic”, “racist”, or “extreme right-wing”. A reminder of who Anders Behring Breivik is: On July 22, 2011, Anders Behring Breivik disguised himself as a police officer, planted a car bomb that exploded close to government offices in the capital Oslo, killed eight people, then still in uniform, he drove to the island of Utoeya, where a summer youth camp of Norway's governing Labour Party was being held and in a shooting spree that lasted more than an hour, he killed 69 people - mostly teenagers.
Breivik behaves in accordance with Al Qaeda manuals
During his six-month prison stay, Anders Behring Breivik has behaved in accordance to his own manifesto — which was clearly inspired by Al Qaeda.
Several of the chapters in Breivik’s manifesto resemble the manuals of Al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden’s terrorist network.
According to Knut Bjarkeid, the chief warden at Ila Prison, Breivik behaves exactly like he described he would in his 1500-page manifesto.
“Yes, exactly to the letter,” the Ila warden says.
He recognizes Breivik’s behavior from the Al Qaeda manual on how to behave in captivity, and he believes Breivik is inspired by it.
“Breivik is friendly, he’s interested in other people and he tries to establish relationships,” says Bjarkeid.
As a consequence the prison has issued instructions to its staff not to spend any time alone with him.
“Our staff never spends any time on a one-to-one basis with Breivik. There are always several guards present. All communication with Breivik is recorded, logged and analyzed.”
Breivik’s stay at Ila is regulated by basic rules for high-security prisoners, plus an additional 130 individual rules that the prison has chosen to implement.
CCTV surveillance is one of those security measures. Breivik is, however not kept under CCTV surveillance inside his cell, Bjarkeid emphasizes.
“All contact with Breivik is governed by strict rules. We have decided to set aside normal procedures that would have allowed the staff to use their own judgment. There are procedures that dictate how many guards need to be present outside his cell door whenever he’s let out, and where these guards are to be positioned. There are also procedures that dictate what Breivik can and cannot see in relation to these measures. There are written procedures that we follow when he’s having showers, and when his lawyers are visiting,” the warden says.
“In order to look after our employees’ best interests, we facilitated frequent conversations with the prisons own psychologists in the initial stages.
“The psychologists advised them on how to address Breivik, how to interrupt him and how to end a conversation,” Bjarkeid says.
Uses the network
Franck Orban, a researcher employed by the Correctional Education System, believes that Breivik must have had access to Al Qaeda manuals available on the internet.
“It is difficult to say with a hundred percent certainty whether he has read the manuals for imprisoned jihadists, but several elements of Breivik’s manifesto bears semblance to the Al Qaeda rhetoric.”
“This suggests that he has had access to them,” Orban says.
“As a result, his perception of prisons may have been influenced by that of militant Islamists, which is a paradox, since Breivik’s image of reality is completely different from theirs.”
In his manifesto Breivik describes how to use the time in prison to build an organization and how to recruit fellow prisoners for the “cause”.
This is a well-known strategy used by Al Qaeda all over the world.
“Prison plays an important part in Breivik manifesto. It is an arena where new followers can be recruited. Maybe he envisions a type of community within the prison, but there are no guarantees that he will get to spend that much time with the other inmates,” Orban says.
Two Al Qaeda manuals have been translated into English and posted on the internet.
Both are featured on websites that are hostile to Islam, and which Breivik has visited.
The well-known terrorist researcher Magnus Ranstorp also sees several similarities between Breivik’s manifesto and the strategy employed by Al Qaeda.
“It is highly likely that he has come across these manuals. We can at least conclude that there are several striking similarities,” Ranstorp says to VG.
On July 22, 2011, Anders Behring Breivik disguised himself as a police officer, planted a car bomb that exploded close to government offices in the capital Oslo, killed eight people, then still in uniform, he drove to the island of Utoeya, where a summer youth camp of Norway's governing Labour Party was being held and in a shooting spree that lasted more than an hour, he killed 69 people - mostly teenagers. Now two Psychiatrists who interviewed Breivik 13 times, have concluded that Breivik is suffering from paranoid schizophrenia. (BBC)
The deputy leader of the opposition Progress Party, Per Sandberg, thought the conclusion that Breivik was criminally insane was "completely incomprehensible" and said, "How can someone who has planned this for such a long time... be considered insane?". (BBC) Good question.
They believe he was in a psychotic state both during and after the twin attacks on 22 July that led to the deaths of 77 people and injured 151.
Their report must still be reviewed by a panel of forensic psychiatrists.
Breivik will still be tried in April but it seems likely he will be placed in psychiatric care rather than prison.
Breivik admits carrying out the attacks but has pleaded not guilty to charges, arguing that that the attacks were atrocious but necessary for his campaign to defend Europe against a Muslim invasion.
The two psychiatrists who interviewed him on 13 occasions concluded that he lived in his "own delusional universe where all his thoughts and acts are guided by his delusions", prosecutors told reporters. (BBC)
Read the entire article, but it appears that the trial will go forward as usual in April 2013 with both the defense and the prosecution bring forth witnesses, including the shrinks, asking questions, and allowing Breivik a time to speak for himself. The verdict seems to be a foregone conclusion -- no prison, just psychiatric care for life. But what if his doctors declare him cured at some point?
Debbie Schlussel has the story, here's an excerpt:
More proof that Glenn Beck was spot on when he compared Norway’s Utoya Islam political camp, shot up by Anders Breivik, to a Hitler Youth camp. It’s not just, as I told you yesterday, that these “kids” (many of whom were adults and 18 or over) boycotted Israel and played HAMAS flotilla “games.” In fact, Fatah Youth, the Fatah/PLO terrorist group’s youth movement had its own presence at the camp for the last 15 years, as noted by the Palestinian Ma’an News Agency. Check out the statement below from Fatah Youth. It says it all. The Muslim Nazis knew this camp was their kinda place filled with their kinda useful idiot dhimmi Eurotrash. This was definitely a Fatah/HAMAS Youth camp (remember, Fatah recently merged with HAMAS, and they have the same goal, Judenrein and Christianrein). Check out the keffiyeh-encrusted photo, the caption, and what’s on the t-shirts that Norway’s piece of crap Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg thinks is so smile-worthy. And don’t forget, Fatah is the Islamic terrorist group that brutally murdered the Fogel Family while they slept and beheaded the baby. (continue reading, hat tip Frederick William Dame)
Please go read the entire article. A few readers here at Right Truth insisted that the youth/adults at the island must have been Muslims for Anders Breivik to attack them. But even though I knew they were Palestinian sympathizers, I found no evidence that they were Muslims or Muslim converts. With this Fatah connection it makes a little more sense (if any sense can be made from the ramblings and actions of a mass murderer) why Breivik chose the youth camp. We knew that the youth/adults called for a boycott of Israel and for recognition of 'Palestine', but we did not know about the direct connection to Fatah.
The camp, run by Norway’s left-wing party, was lobbying for breaking the blockade of the terrorist Hamas regime in the Gaza Strip and for immediate recognition of a Palestinian state without that entity needing do anything that would prevent it from being a terrorist base against Israel. They were backing and justifying forces that had committed terrorism against Israelis and killing thousands of people like themselves. [snip]
The Oslo Syndrome can be defined the opposite of the Stockholm Syndrome. Instead of being a target of terrorism and then changing views to support the terrorists’ side, it means—individually, as part of a movement, or as an entire country—supporting the terrorists’ side then being victims of terrorism. Anders Behring Breivik, 32, dressed as a policeman or security guard, with sweater and insignia, has been arrested for the shooting of 92 people on the island of Utoya, where the youth-wing of Norway's left-leaning Labor Party was holding a retreat, with 700 individuals present. He is charged with two acts of terrorism.
The attack on the youth went on for between 30 minutes up to 2 hours, depending on individual eye-witness reports. Anders was reportedly the only person on the island with a gun or weapon of any kind. He called the youth to him and like sheep to the slaughter they gathered in a tight group in front of him, waiting to hear what the policeman had to share with them.
Anders Behring Breivik started shooting them, like fish in a barrel. It reportedly took the police swat team up to 2 hours to get boats, get to the island and start doing their job. Another reason for the high number of dead and injured is that the youth did just about everything wrong. When he started shooting, no one charged the shooter to try and stop or disarm him; the youth all ran forward in direct line of the gunman's bullets; some played possum, pretending to be dead, so he shot many a second time in the head to make sure they were dead. He was calm and collected.
...he did not exhibit the behaviour of a frenzied lunatic. Instead, he coldly beckoned his victims towards him and then, like an iron-willed executioner, systematically fired at them. (Mail Online)
This should be a lesson for us here in the United States, with visions of college campus shootings like Virginia Tech. Had some of the adults been armed they could have stopped the slaughter. The fact that no one else either had a gun or used a gun to try and stop Anders is unbelievable, since there are extremely liberal gun laws in Scandinavia, and that freedom to carry guns is now being partially blamed for the terror perpetrated by Anders, 'despite the prevalence of guns, there has never previously been a crime like this in Norway and even in wider Scandinavia such mass shootings are extremely rare'.
Is he responsible for the island shootings,50 miles north of the capital, as well as the bombings on the Prime Minister’s office and an Oil Ministry building, which were originally reported to be coordinated attacks? Jawa Report says:'An eye witness reports that he saw someone dressed up like a police officer get out of the car that would later explode. So, this means that the bomber and the shooter could be the same person.' Also, he was 'seenloitering around the site of the bomb blast in Oslo two hours before the island incident'. Finally he admitted he conducted both attacks alone.
The shooter's on-line writings bear little relationship to his actions which state he opposes all "hate" ideologies among which he includes Islam, Nazism, and Communism. However, his internet footprint is very small, with Twitter and FaceBook accounts being brand new. The Facebook page could have been completely fake.
It also appears that someone added "Christian" and "Conservative" to his FaceBook information after the attacks. (screen shots here) The shooter is reported to be a reader of Gates of Vienna and Jihad Watch, as well as other Counter Jihad sites, but his reading was all over the map.
The Daily Mail bio states 'According to Swedish website Expo Anders Behring Breivik is a member of 'Nordisk' which has 22,000 members and focuses on political terrorism.' and describes him as ' a 'loner', who lived with his mother in a wealthy suburb of west Oslo, was well-educated and enjoyed hunting.'.
It appears he did have connections to a Swedish neo-Nazi forum, according to the Daily Mail: "It has emerged that the man at the centre of the attack is also a member of a Swedish Nazi forum which encourages attacks on government buildings." It would appear that his thoughts, loyalties and actions are all over the place.
He was a youth and adult member of the conservative Fremskrittspartiet (FrP) or Progress Party, VG newspaper reports, remaining involved until 2007. The party's most prominent manifesto pledge is to minimize immigration. (CNN)
We're told that Anders Behring Breivikleft behinda detailed manifesto outlining his preparations and calling for a Christian civil war to defend Europe against the threat of Muslim domination, and yet he draws on the extreme right, the ideas of al Qaeda and other terrorist groups (which he admires) to describe and rationalize a plot which almost exactly matches his activities on July 22, 201, and further he identified with freemasonry, (see his image above, wearing the apron etc of the Freemasons) which would contradict the media claims of him being at Christian zealot.
Anders Behring Breivik in his manifesto referred to his planned killing as my martyrdom operation. (Download manifesto for now at least, at this link.) If he intended to be a martyr he apparently changed his mind as he quickly handed over his weapons to authorities when they arrived.
There are also claims that he belonged to the Knights Templar group, a medieval order created to protect Christian pilgrims in the Holy Land after the First Crusade. He also hada "hatred" of the modern institutional church. According to the New York Daily News, he liked some of the same movies and television shows that I do.
"He wanted a change in society and, from his perspective, he needed to force through a revolution," Lippestad, the lawyer, told public broadcaster NRK. "He wished to attack society and the structure of society."
Lippestad said Breivik spent years writing the 1,500-page manifesto entitled, "2083 - A European Declaration of Independence." It was signed "Andrew Berwick." The date was referred to later in the document as the year that coups d'etat would engulf Europe and overthrow the elite he maligns. (Breitbart)
It is interesting that a Muslim terror group took credit for the attacks, then apparently backed away from those claims but not before praising Anders Behring Breivik's actions. No matter what Anders true beliefs or motives were, and we may never really know, he achieved the same results as the Muslim terrorists desired. And there is indeeda militant Muslim presence in Oslo.
… Initial reports focused on the possibility of Islamic militants, in particular Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami, or Helpers of the Global Jihad, cited by some analysts as claiming responsibility for the attacks. American officials said the group was previously unknown and might not even exist. (NYTimes)
... First of all, over 90% of the terrorist attacks in the world are carried out by Muslims (making it reasonable to assume that when there's a terrorist attack Islamists are likely involved - yet keeping in mind that "not all Muslims are terrorists ... yet nearly all terrorists are Muslim"), there is a militant Muslim presence in Norway (Hyscience)
As Weasel Zippers notes, "No branch of Christianity calls for violence, contra Islam. The dominant left-stream media has been itching for a Western mass-murderer since 9-11 and every attack subsequent to it. Now they have a suspect with blond hair...", a vegetable farmer who purchased six tons of fertilizer. It should also be noted that '...Muslim isn't a race and Islamist extremists come in all colors'.
The media seems thrilled to report that he 'posted on Christian fundamentalist websites and reportedly held right-wing, anti-Muslim views' and 'was also once a member of the youth wing of a rightist party'. If this had been a Muslim, the media would fail to include any description of the man, hair color, skin color, religion, race, nation or origin, etc. But a 6 foot tall blond media-named Christian, with 'blue-green eyes and chiseled features, dressed in a preppy style', who owns three guns (a rifle, shotgun and hand gun), and belongs to gun clubs, ... that's the holy grail.
As Phyllic Chesler points out, "... Barry Rubin, writes that "There have been over 10,000 Islamist terrorist attacks, many of them against Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, and others. The number of such attacks against Muslims in the West or indeed in the world is perhaps one percent of that number.""
Jersey Nut notes '... what I think is worthy of note is how much the Norwegian establishment - the academics, the politicians, the media - turned toward the Islamic position in recent years, and embraced their anti-semitism under the thin guise of anti-Zionism.' We're told that Norwegians were shocked that this terror was committed by one of their own.
Two days before the terror attacks many of the youth that were on the Utoya island camp had met with Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere and demanded he recognize Palestine.
Gahr Stoere told the youths that the Palestinians deserve a country of their own and that the occupation must end, Norwegian website Politisk reported. Several of the youths waved signs reading: "Boycott Israel." (YNET)
I condemn all acts of terror, no matter who quilty party is, what religion they claim or what excuse they use.
A post in Breivik's name on an online forum, Document.no, from December 2009, talks about non-Muslim teenagers being "in an especially precarious situation with regards to being harassed by Islamic youth."
"I know of many hundred occasions where non-Muslims have been robbed, beaten up and harassed by Islamic gangs," the post reads. "I had a best friend between the ages of 12-17 who was a Pakistani, so I was one of the many protected, cool 'potatoes' that had protection. But this also made me see the hypocrisy up close and personal and made me nauseous."
Another post in Breivik's name in October 2009 advises "Hans", described as the founder of Document.no, to "develop an alternative to the violent extreme Norwegian Marxist organisations Blitz, SOS Rasisme and Rod Ungdom" -- all left-wing movements in Norway.
"The conservatives dare not openly express their viewpoints in public because they know that the extreme Marxists will trump them. We cannot accept the fact that the Labour Party is subsidising these violent "Stoltenberg jugend", who are systematically terrorising the politically conservative," the post reads.
He is making a reference to the youth movement of Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, who heads the Labour Party. (CNN)
Is Anders Behring Breivik like Timothy McVeigh of Oklahoma City or Jarred Loughner in Arizona? Gates Of Vienna says:
... Oslo and Oklahoma City definitely have a lot in common in this regard.
But one thing many people seem to forget — and which they may never have known, thanks to the American government’s actions and the media spin that followed — is that there almost certainly was an Islamic terror connection to the Oklahoma City bombing. (more)
The Prime Minister said in a speech "no one shall bomb us into silence". The US President sent his condolences.
The media anxiously await for Anders Behring Breivik's motive. I'm not sure he even knows, but we are told he is cooperating with authorities.
According to Fox News, Anders Behring Breivik's attorney says he admits what he did was terrible, but states it had to be done. Who can truly know the mind of another human being?
The moral of the story is always be prepared, always have protection, trust no one, and look out for the crazies.
Updates as they are available.
Breivik's father's home in Cournanel in southern France was raided early Monday morning as Breivik prepares for a closed court hearing in Oslo. Anders behring Breivik, who lived with his mother, has not seen his father, Jens Breivik, for 16 years, half of his lifetime. No word on the reason for the split between father and son.
The death toll was upgraded to 93 yesterday, but today has been re-adjusted to 76.
Breivik told judge Kim Heger that there were "two more cells in our organisation." There is no information to back up this claim or to indicate that these supposed cells were planning terror attacks.
Judge Kim Heger said Breivik will not be allowed visitors or letters.

One or more bombs, including a car bomb, caused death and destruction in Oslo Norway today. So far seven dead and others wounded. The Prime Minister may have been the target. In a second attack, a man dressed in a police uniform started shooting youngsters at Utoya island youth summer camp, injuring 5 and causing people to try and swim from the island in panic. There were 600 youth activists at the island camp. The most current report has as many as 30 dead. One witness said the shooting went on for two hours. Islamic terror is suspected but not yet confirmed. UPDATE: 7-23-11 - The Norwegian police on Saturday charged a 32-year-old man, (Anders Behring Breivik) whom they identified as a Christian fundamentalist with right-wing connections, over the bombing of a government center here and a shooting attack on a nearby island that together left at least 91 people dead. (New York Times, via Drudge)
Both attacks are apparently related. Two suspects have been arrested.
The attacks come as Norway grapples with a homegrown terror plot linked to al-Qaida. Two suspects are in jail awaiting charges.
Last week, a Norwegian prosecutor filed terror charges against an Iraqi-born cleric for threatening Norwegian politicians with death if he is deported from the Scandinavian country. The indictment centered on statements that Mullah Krekar - the founder of the Kurdish Islamist group Ansar al-Islam - made to various news media, including American network NBC.
Terrorism has also been a concern in neighboring Denmark since an uproar over cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad six years ago. Danish authorities say they have foiled several terror plots linked to the 2005 newspaper cartoons that triggered protests in Muslim countries. Last month, a Danish appeals court on Wednesday sentenced a Somali man to 10 years in prison for breaking into the home of the cartoonist. (AP)
Today our hearts and prayers go out to Norway as they try to treat the injured, comfort the families of those who were killed and bring to justice those who are guilty. We know how you feel today.
Fabian Stang, the mayor of Oslo, Norway told CNN that "this situation is under control, but it's been a terrible day."

The following image is reportedly of bodies on the beach of Utoya island youth camp and the first image coming from that terror attack, but has not been officially verified yet.
