The Council Has Spoken!! This Week’s Watcher’s Council Results

Alea iacta est…the Council has spoken, the votes have been cast, and the results are in for this week’s Watcher’s Council match up.

This week’s contest ended up in a tie, between Joshuapundit’s   The Newtown School Shooting And What It Should Tell Us, a theme many on the Council chose to look at this week and The Right Planet’s Talking Past Each Other, an interesting  look at the left/right divide in America based on psychological types.

In accordance with our by-laws, any time there’s a tie between The Watcher and one of the other members. I happily make way for the latter, in this case, The Right Planet’s excellent look at the state of discourse in America, Talking Past Each Other. Here’s a slice:

Exasperation is how I would describe the feelings I have right now regarding the reelection of Barack Hussein Obama, but I refuse to give into hopelessness and despair. I’m in this for the long haul. Although it may be tempting to pick up my ball and go home, I would rather make the other poor bastard pick his ball up and go home—even if it is a long, hard slog.

What happens when you finally decide enough is enough?

This week’s winner, Virginia Right! looks at that question in this week’s winning entry, .Boehner and Cantor’s ‘War on Conservatives’ Causes Exodus of Conservatives from the GOP Here’s a slice:

Republicans did not lose this election because they were too far to the right. They lost because they alienated too many Conservatives by running yet another liberal candidate for President. Conservatives refused to vote for Mitt Romney. They didn’t vote for Barack Obama, that’s for sure. But the stayed home just as they did with John McCain. The only reason George W. Bush won election was that the Democrats managed to find two candidates that were even worse.

And it was really hard to find a candidate worse than Obama, but Republicans have managed. Twice.

The last few years I have been working within the Republican Party to help move things back to the path the founders, and more recently Ronald Reagan laid out. A number of my friends called me crazy for trying. I now admit that they were right and I was wrong.

Forum: Whom Would Your Choice Be For Person Of The Year?

 The Independent Sentinel: This is an easy one for me. Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl who was shot in the head by the Taliban for going to school has my vote. She has been speaking up for her rights since she was 11, knowing she was risking death. She is my hero.

The Noisy Room:  My choice for person of the year would be Col. Allen B. West. He is a man that has not only shown the strength of his convictions in battle, he has shown leadership and responsibility for those under his command in the past and in the present. Now, back at home, Allen West shows the same depth of courage and the will to lead on the political battlefield in the name of conservatism and the Constitution.

The Council Has Spoken!! This Week’s Watcher’s Council Results

The Council has spoken, the votes have been cast, and the results are in for this week’s Watcher’s Council match up.

This week , we were treated to an interesting spectacle.

Every EU country except the Czech Republic either voted for or abstained from voting against the recognition of ‘Palestine’ as a a state, something that essentially gutted the international  treaties of Oslo Accords and the Road Map. A day or so later, these same countries were calling Israel’s ambassadors on the carpet and accusing them of ‘jeopardizing the two state solution’ because they decided to build some badly needed housing on a vacant hillsisde!

As this week’s winner, Joshuapundit’s ‘Palestine’ – A Celebration At The Funeral   points out, the celebration  over the recognition of ‘Palestine’ is not a new beginning but a wake. Here’s a slice :

 The UN has finally taken the step of openly endorsing ‘Palestine’. In response to the PLO’s request, the General Assembly issued Resolution 67/19, giving ‘Palestine’ observer status, which means it is a non-voting member who can join other international bodies like UNICEF or the International Criminal Court.
Prior to the vote, Mahmoud Abbas made a typical speech in which he accused Israel of racism numerous times. Coming from the lips of a man whose thesis at Moscow University denied that the Holocaust occurred, this added yet another touch of comedy to the proceedings.

The Council Has Spoken!! This Week’s Watcher’s Council Results

The Obama Administration’s empowerment of the Muslim Brotherhood has had some interesting ramifications, among them the changes in the status of  long standing U.S. clients and allies in the region.

This week’s winner, Joshuapundit’s  The Next Islamist Domino – Jordan takes a look at a very under the wire U.S. client that could very well be th enext state to fall to Islamist..perhaps even with the Obama Administration’s  encouragement. Here’s a slice:

Jordan and King Abdullah appear to be next on the Islamist hit list. And the Obama administration seems to be sending signals that it tacitly approves.

Jordan has been at a tipping point for quite some time, partly because it’s a U.S client state (which doesn’t sit well with a significant part of its population whom consider King Abdullah an American tool) and partly because of its peculiar history and tribal aspect.

There have been protests with Muslim Brotherhood participation for two years now, but the most recent outbursts were large riots across the Kingdom that spread across the Kingdom and called openly for King Abdullah’s ouster. In spite of brutal suppression by the King’s security police and numerous arrests, the unrest, referred to as the “The November Intifada” is only growing.
